For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Dirty, clean, no difference in test they did on tv the other day. Held two heads together and watched them climb on. Ew.

I do get cross with some people who never get rid of them. One of dd's best friends always has them to the point of being able to see them from a distance, consequently we are always getting them. I have counted 15 full grown lice in dd's hair after going there for tea and she had none before. When we have them I comb, comb like a bastard and ignore all protests. I hate them.

We won't move in before easter I shouldn't think, there is a lot to be done. Complete re-wiring, turning backk from two flats to a house, complete new central heating, kitchen knocked through and rsj put in, dry rot ripped out, upstairs kitchen ripped out and window rebuilt instead of door, outside metal staircase removed, complete stripping of floors, walls, damp treatment and stud walls coming down. Garden walls need to come down and earth dug out. Yep, there's quite a bit to do.

I like birds in the sky and trees. I don't like them near to me very much. I killed my canary once. I haven't recovered.

What's a meditation box?

I taught a girl who ALWAYS had nits. To the point where she would get sent home because

a) she was infesting everybody else and other parenst (quite rightly) complained
b) couldn't concentrate on anything because she was scratching all the time
c) she was being called names and would get upset and hit people or swear at them (which is perhaps understandable)
d) it made me feel ill, looking at her and seeing her hair moving seemingly of it's own accord.

How I managed to not get them from her, I don't know. My teaching assistant used to check my hair every week!

Poor girl.

Guadalupe · 05/01/2009 17:50

Well, this is the thing. DD says the other children can see them crawling over her head when she's on the carpet because there are so many it looks like it's moving. It's not fair on her either. Her mum says she won't let her comb it.

SuperBunny · 05/01/2009 17:59

The girl I mentioned was seriously neglected and the nits problem was added to the list of charges.

It is very sad when parents won't help their children.

SuperBunny · 05/01/2009 17:59

This is why they need to bring back the nit nurse.

womblingalong · 05/01/2009 18:07

Ola Veggers,

I missed you again stuffit!

Ew nits - yuk, I am due to enter ths wonderful world. It was dd's first day at school (well only 9.30-11.30) I am a bit sad about the end of her pre-school days, and had a little weep on the way home.

We are practising 'having a packed lunch' every day this week at home, as I realised last night that she has never eaten one without me or DH to open tubs and packets and things. I was very worried she would starve at school, as she is insisting on a packed lunch (big sigh)

SuperBunny · 05/01/2009 18:19

What a good idea, wombling!

womblingalong · 05/01/2009 18:24

Oh BBBee,

blows kisses, you sound very resolute and together.

Hope you are coping ok.

littlerach · 05/01/2009 18:28

That sounds nice, Wombling.

There is a girl in dd1's class who always has nits.

Dd1 says that sometimes they drop off her head onto her books and the girl squashes them

TigerFeet · 05/01/2009 18:31

Hi Wombling - the dinnerladies at dd's school are fab at helping the little ones. Hopefully you'll be as lucky. I wanted dd to have hot meals at school but the school she ended up at doesn't do them. The yogurts in the tubes rather than pots are great for small fingers

Guad - hurrah!

DD has never yet had nits. Constant Vigilance in this house though.

How are you feeling LR? I have IBS, but have yet to find a foodie trigger. I think it's down to stress for me. Peppermint tea and lactobacillus supplements help enormously.

Pink, if you ever feel you need vegger help, let me know - I don't think I'm too far away from you.

I'm due on so have been carbfesting. Lovely big chilli for tea later followed by fruit pavlova to assuage my guilt.

ILTMI - thought of you yesterday - we went to see Madagascar 2

TigerFeet · 05/01/2009 18:37

BBBeee - how are you doing? So sorry to hear the latest update. I've typed a few platitudes and deleted them, they all sound so trite. THinking of you.

We need Ahundredbiros and her pens wisdom. More marriage angst in the Feet household atm.

SuperBunny · 05/01/2009 18:40

Sorry for all relationshippy angst. I suppose the good thing about being single is not having to worry about that. My friend's helpfully tell me, "Oh, you're so lucky to be single. You don't have to be angry that no-one took the trash out"

I do see their point but still

I 'm so tired. I wanted to nap but DS wouldn't let me. Grr.

FrannyandZooey · 05/01/2009 19:27

SB can you get an early night?

right i have summoned up courage to tell you about my cringy experience yesterday
i hope it will be cathartic as i am still clenching when i think about it

we had some friends round for drinks and presents etc as i said
well you know the miracle berry tablets i got dp? (they claim you chew them and they make sour things sweet, eg lemons taste like caramels)
i got some also for our lovely friend who is 17 and who i have known since she was a tot, and who looks after ds1 for me
i thought she would really like something off the wall
anyway she was game for it and chewed them up then and there, and we brought her a glass of vinegar
honestly it says on the packet this is a good thing to do
so she swigged it - spluttered - retched - spat vinegar everywhere - obviously disgusting taste and the tablets had not worked at all
the vinegar went on her and the two people she was sitting next to (all had nice clothes on for the party)
and the thought of her drinking it happily thinking it would taste nice
how appalling
i feel so embarrassed
she is so lovely she tried to laugh it off, but really it is dreadful! dp thought it was kind of funny but it ISN'T, is it? and i keep thinking she will think we have done it for a laugh
what was i thinking

oh dear
LOL if you can convince me it is funny PLEASE DO
as am mortified

womblingalong · 05/01/2009 19:33

Not really that funny, sorry Franny, bt I am sure she knows that you weren't deliberately trying to get that reaction, and believed the packet!

I am sure she doesn't hold it against you.

Guadalupe · 05/01/2009 19:56

Why did she spit it everywhere though? Vinegar is not that bad, I drink it all the time. In something else admittedly.
I like the sound of these weirdy sweets. Where do you get them?

I wouldn't worry about it tbh. She probably thinks you are a weeny bit crackers anyway. People over 25 are another species to teenagers aren't they? I think I was around 25 when I started feeling fondness for younger people anyway.

pinkspottywellies · 05/01/2009 20:07

Very odd Franny. I'm sure they'll all take it in the spirit in which it was intended.

Carrot and lentil soup for dinner.

Anyone know about low lying placentas?

Thanks TF, has dd settled better into school yet? My DD has just had monster meltdown before bed, think she is worn out.

BBBee · 05/01/2009 20:52

hahahaha franny - oh it is funny though - it is - she will think it is funny and she will have a fab story to tell. when i was younger my dad had this bonkers hippy friend (not that you are that franny - oh no) and he would always take us out to gather hops and make hop tea and eat bits of trees and hippy bonkers stuff. he was mad and we loved it.

i think it is a wonderful present and oh how she will laugh she really will.

then in later life she will become a vegger like us and down glasses of cider vinegar for any aliment going!!!

BBBee · 05/01/2009 20:54

oh i am only skimming because i have bags to pack and lunches to make and school things to do and dinner money and AARRGGAGASHAHAGAHGHH!

but carrot house - oh goody.

and thanks for nicxe stuff - i am frantic but fine and you are all treasures.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/01/2009 20:56

TF - was I good in Madagascar 2?

Franny - if your friend has known you for years I'm sure they will know that you meant no harm.

grapefruit
banana
pear
hummus
carrots
cucumbers
cauliflower
grapes
beans

Placent a previa - I know the placenta can move before term, but I believe you have to have a scan to find out.

BBBee · 05/01/2009 21:04

god lemur - you are putting us to shame!

do you feel any better for higher FV intake?

TigerFeet · 05/01/2009 21:07

Wombling I think they all find it tiring to start with, even the short days. It's just so different to nursery or home or whatever they're used to. As for dd - I'll let you know tomorrow - INSET day today so still on holiday . She was vastly happier by the end of last term but let's see whether the break has disturbed that - fingers crossed that she's OK, with my job situation as it is (redundancy threat) I can't fiddle with my hours any more.

Kidney beans
Tomatoes
Peppers
Strawberries (egyptian, norty tiger, but couldn't resist and would you believe they actually tasted of strawberries?!?)
blueberries
apple
grapes

My Mum had placenta previa with one of my brothers - it must have shifted before he was born as she had all four of us vaginally.

ILTMI - you were good but not as good as the original I'm afraid!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 05/01/2009 21:14

Dried fruit

I forgot dried fruit, which makes 10. Holy crap, I've managed it 2 days in a row and I also went for a long bracing walk with ds today.

I can't say I feel better in myself yet, however I have noticed that I have become nice and regular
