For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

"eat your 10 a day before they go moldy"

littlerach · 29/12/2008 17:22

oh, only painting dd1's room. Nothing exciting!

TooT, will look for you later on FB. I must confess I don't really use it, so bare/bear with me

Are all you veggers on FB?

SuperBunny · 29/12/2008 18:51

Bye FMF, good luck with RL. Hello Tatties. Have you finished painting, LR? I'm on FB.

I have been to the produce store and bought lots. For lunch, I had a really good salad made of whole portions of leaves, grapes, pear, dried cranberries and asparagus. And a glass of juice. So 6 in one sitting. And I have the who afternoon and evening to eat 4 more.

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 18:56

i don't want fmv to go

SuperBunny · 29/12/2008 19:10

I was thinking about dahl last week. I shall make some. What kid of lentils do you use? In fact, do you have a recipe? Mine is always a chuck it all in and hope for the best recipe, which seems to work out okay but is not very authentic.

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 19:10

oh i would love dhal

OP posts:
SuperBunny · 29/12/2008 19:13

dhal

BBBee · 29/12/2008 19:20

oh god super bunny - mine is along those lines:

fry cumin, coriander and tumeric in oil and water until fragrant

add 3 finely chopped onions and soften

add vegetable stock cubes and some boiling water

add half a pack of red lentils

cook it

add some salt / sugar / lemon juice

cook it some more

cook some rice

serve with yoghurt, chillies, chopped onion and mango chutney

be surprised as whole family eats without complaining

leave pan on stove and eat some when you go past

BBBee · 29/12/2008 19:21

(meaning it is chuck it in rather than authentic - my dad taught it to me)

SuperBunny · 29/12/2008 19:21

I'm hungry now. And i have no lentils.

Thanks bee

BBBee · 29/12/2008 19:28

they are good back of the cupboard stuff - has saved me many an evening.

i wish i was more organised.

SuperBunny · 29/12/2008 19:32

I usually have lentils in but my store cupboard supplies have run low. Red Lentils are really hard to get hold of here and are ridiculously expensive.

SuperBunny · 29/12/2008 19:39

Where's mou gone?

Franny has a nice recipe for butternut squash dhal - I haven't made it for a while. I must do it again.

I like your song stuffit - a little long for a title maybe!!

Wasn't mou having a Christmas break? If she doesn't appear after new year I'll collar her on facebook and bring her back. We're playing scrabble.

TooT I loved your welcome speech. Welcome littleduck. I am going to have to read carefully now so as not to confuse you with littlerach. [strained pg brain]

My friend is on her way round to watch a movie with me. She talks through films. [sigh] I should have used the few minutes between the phone call and her arriving to put some washing on but here I am catching up with you lot!!

Littleduck have juice and dried fruit (raisins or apricots - you can pop 'em in like sweets!) every day for breakfast. If you can manage a piece of fresh fruit (or tinned ) as well then you've done 3 already! Which I find quite motivating for the rest of the day.

Right there goes the door!

littlerach · 29/12/2008 19:52

Yes, SB, finishe dpainting now.

Tomorrow is the big throw away tidy up.

BBBee · 29/12/2008 20:03

avi - you put about tbsp oil and tbsp water in a pan with dried spices and mix to a paste - you then heat this up and when the oil and water start to seperate you know it has reached the temperature where the spices have become, er, fragrant. then you take it off the heat.

hope you are feeling better

littleducks · 29/12/2008 20:11

Thanks all for the welcomes,

now i promise i have read the advice on portions link now can i just check something, i had a cereal bowl of veg soup is that one or two? and i had a large salad in pizza express for lunch so lots of spinach leaves plus avocado etc is that one or two?

so together i have had:

large salad
veg soup
appletiser has official 1/5 a day sign on?????
dried apricots
and will eat banana before bed

now am off to add lots of fruit and veg to my online shop as if its not here i cant eat it!

BBBee · 29/12/2008 20:23

little ducks (I MAY GET FLAMED FOR THIS AS I COULD HAVE DREAMT IT UP) I count a portion as what i can hold in my cupped hand (one hand) so say your pizza express salad had about four handfuls that would be four - soup three cupped hands three (best to do this in your imagination rather than start cupping your pizza express salad in your hands - urgh and not the soup (not in company anyway))

actually that sounds wrong doesn;t it.

BBBee · 29/12/2008 20:33

i thought aboiut this whilst going upstairs to run the bath.

i think it is wrong but at the same time quite a good idea.

FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 20:36

bee it is WRONG
but i liked the bit about you running upstairs naked so i will let it pass

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 29/12/2008 20:38

oh god you never MENTIONED running upstairs naked i just made that bit up
well it was good in my head

littleducks never mind all that you are doing well
eat fruit
eat veg
move about a bit (run upstairs naked if you wish)
it'll all be fine
