For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

S'ok TF, I don't think I had particularly mentioned them but am really struggling and physically dread the cold snaps. I have been to a pain clinic but despite being in a lot of discomfort, I really fall in the lower end of what they deal with, and as I am so 'able-bodied' felt a bit of a fraud.

I did manage a slow run today and found some virgin snow on the moors,

not really being self indulgent and ignoring other peoples problems,

bah! miserable goat....will give myself a good talking too.

TooTicky · 02/12/2008 15:51

Smiles, that poem made me wobbly and I don't normally do poetry. I'm a bit naff I think. I blame my headmaster when I was about 9

Dd2 shrieked "Mummy milk" at me so unceasingly while I was making lunch that I was actually shaking. Sort of jangling all through. I had explained to her several times that I just had to do food first. And she had recently had some.
Oh, and ds2 is now hot and flopsy. Will this interfere with his op next week?

It is woodcraft folk this evening and I want to go. I desperately want to get out of the house. Is it okay to leave ds2 with a possibly probably definitely sleepy dp? They will be on the sofa together. Ds2 will probably sleep anyway.

What with this and the milk shrieking I feel like a very bad mother.

Smiles, my toes get excruciatingly painful in cold weather. And of course, everybody stands on them constantly.

Oh, the shower was good and hot. Thank goodness.

daisy99divine · 02/12/2008 16:04

TooT you MUST go out this evening, you will otherwise explode and you are NOT a bad mummy, you are a lovely mummy, you are just a bit shredded at the moment

Yes, fine to leave DS2 with DP who may be sleepy but can look after him fine

Oh the shreiking can get a bit much can't it... poor you - go on, get to woodcraft folk

Mou so sorry with the cold - does a hot water bottle or warmth help? How about staying within your pain parameters- not pushing it on the days you fee good but doing a little and often every day?

Boco · 02/12/2008 16:09

Mou sorry about all the pain you're in, that must be exhausting. What's causing it? Is there no medical route that will help long term? Is it back pain? Sounds like you have a lot going on, veggers are always good listeners.

Franny, abs did give dd2 a funny tummy, but in Poland they gave us something called lacidobaby to take with them to stop this. I've been giving her the yakult type things since they ran out.

We've had snow here but it's not settled. It's freezing though.

SmilesLikeNoOther · 02/12/2008 16:19

Boco, I was in accident many years ago and suffered massive spinal trauma, I was very lucky not to become quadraplaegic, so I really do count my blessings, but pain is wearing.
The pain clinic suggested I try to do less, but that is not easy with a young family, a small business, and a natural tendency to be hyper-active--- rofl .

I spent 3 months in bed at the time........poor, poor nurses. they threatened to put me in a full body plaster.

SmilesLikeNoOther · 02/12/2008 16:23

Oh, and hi Daisy, I was just thinking I kept missing you.... heat is lovely but not practical when I am doing stuff.

And I just can't 'stop', it is not in my nature, so my body and mind are at odds with each other.

And go out Toot, you really really deserve it. [bossy vegger emoticon]

daisy99divine · 02/12/2008 16:42

Oh Smiles, poor you, I don't mean stop totally, I just mean measure your activities, but with your hyperness not easy I know!

What about a warm bath at the least?

or hot water bottle down the trousers?

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2008 17:17

Mou that sounds dreadful, am very sorry to hear it. I think, having exhausted conventional routes, I would be thinking something like self-hypnosis, to give yourself a break from the pain when you needed to. I don;t understand it, but if it works during childbirth, could it work for other kinds of pain?

ds2 breathing sounds awfully raspy. am taking back to gp in a minute. I am freaking out a bit I think. Keep thinking we are going to be back in the hospital. Very self indulgent sorry.
Boco yes we have had the probiotics twice now, once after we were both on abs and once since when I just got candida-ed again. The ones the glowy lady recommends cost £25!! but I have gone for bargain basement this time and found some that are only £7. I take them and ds2 gets it in the milk. Allegedly.

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2008 17:19

TooT the sofa thing sounds fine. I hope you manage to get out. I always want to quiz you about dp. Why is he always up all night? Why can you not usually leave dc with him? Tell me to snout out if appropriate.

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2008 18:54

ds2 is fine the doctor says

stuffitllama · 02/12/2008 19:29

Toot sorry you are going through such a rotten time. You do sound like you need a break.

Would like to send virtual whisky and hot lemon to all ill people (possibly not children)

Smiles am glad your friend is ok in Mumbai. We are too. Dh was there but is home tonight. We are making big decisions. It's so lovely to have him back for a proper talk.

beans, cauliflower, sweet carrots, onions, orange

stuffitllama · 02/12/2008 19:31

Smiles have just read about the cold. What a terrible thing to go through. Franny I'm glad ds2 ok. ABs are miserable.

littlerach · 02/12/2008 20:43

Smiles, that's awful, feel free to moan.

My feet go blue quite frequently with the cold. Bless Dh, he came down with an early present for me last week - some angora/lambswool socks, that are amazing at warming them up, and keeping them warm.
I have 2 chillblains

Also, ugg boots are fabulous for warmth. I wore my (fake) boots on Monday in Bath and my feet were so snug and warm.

FrayedKnot · 02/12/2008 21:45

Hello

So pleased DS2 is Ok Franny

Smiles, I am sure acupuncture can help for managing pain. It is also very calming (in my fairly limited experience).

Again I don;t really understand it but it does seem to work.

Hope you got to Woodcraft Folk, TooT.

TooTicky · 02/12/2008 22:30

We did go out. It was most odd not having ds2, like missing a body part. Anyway, the dcs had fun and I spoke to adult humans which was good.

I keep imagining child-wailing noises and having to run to the stairs to check. I'm still shaking. I think I'm a bit wired today. Oh, and I keep forgetting to eat.
And....breathe.

Franny, really glad ds2 is okay. It is scary, isn't it? Especially when they are so small.

Franny, I'll go into it at some point. Your snout is fine

Lots of hello to Stuffit and LittleRach and Daisy and Boco and FK and Smiles and everybody.

filthymindedvixen · 02/12/2008 23:07

Hello

TooTicky · 02/12/2008 23:11

Glad you have built bridges fmv and at fresh clementine. Where was he? [nosey]

MamaG · 02/12/2008 23:11

Am not a true vegger at all since arrival of DS2

Don't seem to eat 10 of anything in a day, let along 10 F&V!

Will join in furiously when I am able to list a decent F&V quota!

Note to self: eat.

pinkspottywellies · 02/12/2008 23:12

I'm getting my arse kicked at fb scrabble

NO fruit and veg today unless you count chips and white rolls

Well ok I had mango, banana, peas, carrots, tomato sauce with olives, onion and mushrooms. Actually if I go and neck some juice before I go to bed I'll have at least made 5! And excersise soft play in the morning

Night all

TooTicky · 02/12/2008 23:13

Hello MamaG How are you?

TooTicky · 02/12/2008 23:13
