For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

I forgot to get DS' Advent Calendar out

TF your boss sounds lovely...

Franny it is difficult - I don;t think DS has had antibs either, more luck than anything I would say. However if DS2 has a course and has started you should finish it I think.

I have dreadful heartburn and I fear it is slef induced from drinking vodka on Saturday

Am gulping down mint tea.

yes I will finish course
just wondered if I could have done things differently and avoided medical intervention without risking ds2's well being
seems to be recurring theme with him

anyway
he is much improved after scaring me this morning
he was hot, breathing fast, AWFUL wheezing, heart rate fast, miserable etc
of course this all sounds like he obv needed treatment
however 2 hours later he was fine again
hmm
oh well it is done now

pineapple, apple, raisins, banana
carrots, mange tout
corn, edamame beans
2 satsumas

oops only actually 9 there. there was a heck of a lot of pineapple though. and my thighs are saying ouch a lot today, from gym yesterday

FrannyandZooey · 01/12/2008 21:48

what do you put in the drawers etc that is not chocolate? i refuse to do chocolate at breakfast time

FrannyandZooey · 01/12/2008 21:49

we are selling our car
anyone want to buy a crap hyundai
that smells when you brake

ds2 has discovered if he waves his arms in certain way it makes interesting shadows on the sofa

Boco · 01/12/2008 21:53

Oh god poor dd2 has had huge amounts of antibiotics in the past 6 months - well three lots, each for ten days. She'd managed to go for her first years with nothing, then the first time she had them she swelled up and we had dash to hospital so no penicillin for her. I really can't refuse them when in hospital with pneumonia though.

She's doing much better now though, got her sparkle back, as well as her bang and her shriek and her sing and her stomp. She is eating at last! Hooray.

Had a trip to Bristol this weekend for dp family thing - was a horrid journey, took 7 hours to get home and am v. tired.

Today I DROVE to the supermarket, all by myself, around roundabouts and everything, and did the weeks shop, all by myself, and then drove to preschool to pick up dd. It kind of sounds like nothing, but to me it is huge and life changing and exciting and I feel like a grown up, nearly.

Guad how's the house thing?
Franny hope Lucky is ok.
Smiles can we see your website when it's ready?
Hello fk and toot and Avi - Hello everyone else too.
I

FrayedKnot · 01/12/2008 21:59

Glad to hear DD2 is better Boco. Hooray for driving! I would have gone mad not being able to drive in Norfolk. Do you have the car every daY?

Our advent calendar is the old fashoned sort...no chocolate.

Brilliant news Boco

TooTicky · 01/12/2008 22:42

Dcs have chocolate calenders for the first time this year. Dp's mum bought them. My mum always gets nice German ones with beautiful pictures though so at least they will have both, not just choc.

SuperBunny · 02/12/2008 01:45

Well done Boco.

ABs thing is hard. Glad DS2 is suddenly better, Fran. And Boco's DD too. Phew.

Nice to see Avi & Tiger here today, and the usual mob too.

Saw Santa today. Was lovely. DS was gushed over and everyone said how polite and grown up and delightful he is [proud] So, the do nothing school of parenting must work to some extent

Bits of:
tomato, orange, mango (semi-cunting), kiwi, apple, avocado, mince pies (they do have real fruit in them) and various crap.

SmilesLikeNoOther · 02/12/2008 06:59

Balloons, coins, small art stuff, (erasers/sharpeners), marbles, pretty crystals, a piece from a simple jig-saw a day.....things I have put in advent calendars in the past (obviously depends on ages).

Envelops Toot in hug-coat.

Fran, for what it is worth, I think you absolutely did the right thing, you are approaching AB's with a balanced point of view and don't abuse them and sometimes a body just needs a crutch once in a while.
I avoid them where I can, so don't feel too guilty on the occassions where I let the children have them, (dd had them x2, DS a bit more but the poor little man gets Balinitus and that is not something I can't home medicate)

for Boco, hope things keep improving.

One of my customers brought my DC's very extavagant chocolate advent calendars....

Sort of slept....

Oh god DD is up, which means mama mia AGAIN!!!!!!

Brain dribbles out of ear.

xx to all.

SmilesLikeNoOther · 02/12/2008 07:09

IT'S SNOWING. Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!

Yaaaaayyyyyyyy

It has got to snow ALL morning so I can go for a run later.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from ear to ear.

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2008 08:53

ds2 wheezy again, i think i did the right thing
probably

boco do you notice dd having any ill effects from them? i am worried about ds2 getting thrush and it buggering up our feeding
i am so pleased about the driving! will make things so different for you
i am glad in a way that i can't drive atm as i won't miss the car!

anyone know about relaxation etc for children? ds1 (IMO) v tense atm

SmilesLikeNoOther · 02/12/2008 09:02

Drumming fingers impatiently, waiting for a customer to come so I can go out to play work.

And why is it that when it is so unacceptable to swear at children, they are one of the few things in life that make me want to....gggggrrrrrrr.

A pome......

'into the silence, the breath of a kiss,
heartbeat pounding in a moment of bliss,
we are touching, not touching,
spinning eternally, through this moment, divine.
the sweetest memory to be tarnished, never
i see you in the reflection of my eyes,
taste you long since, and oh,
your touch, too much to bare
like a slice of heaven on a plate,
we whisper lest our voices fracture
this fragile perfection,
the realisation that in knowing you
i grew to truly know myself'

just because it feels like that kind of day

SmilesLikeNoOther · 02/12/2008 09:08

Franny, can you adapt anything like this to suit your DS?
here

TooTicky · 02/12/2008 09:41

Just popping in briefly before shower. Send it warm water vibes please??!!

Franny, my ds1 is a stressy beast. When he is in a drawing phase, that helps.
Also, when he used to play with playmobil figures, I think the general acting out of things was good.
He does occasionally still play in this way. I suspect he may need dwarfy/elfy/warrior type figures at some point. You know, grown up toys.
He also draws pictures of ds2 and his dad and puts them on his dartboard and attacks his bed with a cricket bat but this may not be quite what you're after. It does calm him down though.

Right, enough procrastination. To the shower [fear]

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2008 12:24

thankyou thankyou
was it hot Toot?

daisy99divine · 02/12/2008 12:26

Hello all, caught up on some bits and bobs

Boco, so glad DD2 is turning corner

Franny, I think you have done the right thing with ABs. It is easy to see them as evil when they are lifesaving - when needed. Only evil if used pointlessly and endlessly, which is not the case.

If it helps, I was on ABs after birth and pills without even being witless enough to think about it - and DS fine and we got on with feeding fine. Then at about 5 months he had ABs himself for Impetigo That Wasn't. Made me a bit cross afterwards, as probably not needed, but hindsight is a wonderful thing

The point is, no effect on BF at all - we continued to BF until just shy of 2. I never really thought about it, so little an issue was is....

Toot - sending warm water vibes

smiles and others at snow!

love and vegger hugs to all

FrannyandZooey · 02/12/2008 12:37

oh god i was on abs after birth as well and thank god for them
i felt so much better afterwards
thanks all, i wasn'[t thinking theywere evil, but not always sure if necessary

TigerFeet · 02/12/2008 12:44

DD was on AB's loads when she was little for repeated ear infections. I really regret it now - probably completely unnecessary. I avoid them like the plague these days. She has never had thrush though, not whilst BF and not since we stopped.

Franny do you take lactobacillus? I am riddled with various candida infections at times but I find that high dose Lactos keep it at bay. Might help if you're worried.

Toot I do hope you got a warm shower.

daisy99divine · 02/12/2008 12:59

I have lovely advent calendar for DS with no chocolates - just pictures. I was given a candy striped walking stick thing for him at weekend, and just chucked it

Tatties · 02/12/2008 14:45

Oh dear oh dear oh dear sorry to hear about all the illnesses. Sending lots of healing vibes to those who need them ~~~~~

I got ds his first advent calender this year (just a card one with pictures) and I also forgot to give it to him yesterday! Been waiting in ALL DAY for someone to come and do something in the house - supposed to be here this morning and they have STILL not turned up

SmilesLikeNoOther · 02/12/2008 14:46

ok, a 'mini-moan'

I know the cold affects everybody but I am so fed up of being in pain from it. I hurt all over and the painkillers are struggling to cope. It is one of the many reasons I don't sleep, and the more tired I get, the more erratic my 'hyperness' gets and I simply can not relax and am in danger of doing odd things. The only time I am free of pain at the moment is the first hour that I am in bed with the electric blanket on full. It hurts to get dressed because the skin on my back hurts.

I normally get a break from the pain in the summer when it warms up, but this year it didn't.

The exercise I do helps in some ways, and especially with the depression, but it is getting to the point where it even hurts to run. But if I stop ,I get panicky about getting down again.

Trying to be positive and perky because I need to for my own sake but having a moment, and to be honest, needed to let off steam. Any lovely vegger advice on cheap pain-relief alternatives and how to cure my mania hyper episodes, very much appreciated.

thank-you.

TigerFeet · 02/12/2008 14:58

Oh lord Tatties how annoying - I waited in all day the other day for the washing machine man to turn up at 6pm so I feel your pain

Mou would acupuncture or hypnotherapy help perhaps? Homeopathy? Some health authorities run pain clinics that help with coping strategies, perhaps that might be worth looking into. Sorry, I hadn't registered that you had health problems.
