We had peaches, we had plums, we had strawberries in the sun, but the peaches and the plums, like the strawberries are all gone - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

cos you're welsh. It's in your genes, he can't argue with that surely Guad?

I use it, but swap welsh for australian

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 20:18

I love 'Criminal Minds'. I am watching one I have seen 3 times. Still good. Comes back to the pisshead thing..

MimsieNet · 05/09/2008 20:18

oh OB, you will not win that game. I am Queen of that game...

I shamed myself once at an anne summers party (I swear, I didn't want to go but a very good friend was holding it)
They played a 'rude word' alphabet game and I won so much, everyone else ended up shuffling twigletts round sulkily while I joyfully blurted out:
''Testicles!''
''Urethra''
''Jism''
''Mammaries''

MimsieNet · 05/09/2008 20:19

Guad, tell Dh it was me...

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 20:20

No no - I have a different version of the game.

You go round in a circle each takes a turn but has to remember all the previous swear words. And I WILL win.

Only thing I'm good at, swearing

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 20:20

urethra isn't a swear! Cheat!

MimsieNet · 05/09/2008 20:21

no, but no-one came u with anything better for 'U' so....

I won some dead classy penis ice cube thingies

MimsieNet · 05/09/2008 20:22

Swearing and memory. No. I will win.....

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 20:22

Score!

SuperBunny · 05/09/2008 20:23

I've never played the swear word game. I think I have forgotten them. They don't swear so much here. Well, not as creatively as Brits do

Guadalupe · 05/09/2008 20:23

Ooh yes, I forgot that. Maybe that is why I am atrracted to the name Guad, I think my grandmother is called Gwendoline. I can't exactly remember but I think she abandoned my mother in Wisbech, just across the way from Hunstanton. Not my favourite part of North Norfolk, Hunstanton, I prefer Cley and Stiffkey.

We are watching back to back Chocky. Does anyone remember this? It's like the exorcist for kids with the weird blue alien in the boys head. I am particularly enjoying the credits with the prism and the Thames river reflection tv thing from the eighties with the der, der, duh der music.

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 20:23

on the ice cubes that is

BBBee · 05/09/2008 20:23

god it's busy - is like having to shout across a dinner party table.

Hi FK.

superbunny - not really helpful. i told her my insomnia was seasonal and my dad had SAD and she offered prozac and I asked if that was really necessary and she asked me if I was depressed and I said I didn;t think so but then got all introspective.

I am not depressed am I?

Prozac is a bit much I think.

MimsieNet · 05/09/2008 20:26

oh |I loved Chocky!! Hass it dated a lot??
I'm trying to get ds1 to read it.

By the way Guad, ds1 may like Triskellion read to him. We are totally hooked.Very creepy and 'grown-up'.

Guadalupe · 05/09/2008 20:28

It is almost unbearably dated.

I enjoyed the bit where they played Space Invaders. I was swaying slightly, though I always preferred Frogger.

SuperBunny · 05/09/2008 20:28

Sometimes ADs can be helpful for insomnia. But ime, they don't help. But everyone is different. The problem with no sleeping well is that it can make you depressed.

Do you think you are depressed? Does melatonin work? You can buy it over the counter here. Don't think you can in England though.

ahundredtimes · 05/09/2008 20:28

Oh Bee. That sounds a bit rubbish. Do you often get insomnia? Do you think it's seasonal - or habit? You used to get up so early for your course, do you think that's thrown your clock off a bit?

If anyone asks me if I'm depressed, I always say 'No!' Then I say 'What is depressed anyway? Do I feel like this, like that, like this, well yes, yes, I do.' etc etc. It's a weighted question.

What have you taken for your insomnia so far?

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 20:29

totally - sorry BBee, didn't mean to make light.

I went through a rough patch a few years ago - not depressed in anyway just... y know...

Anyway, they just gave me a 6 month script for Seroxat. Didn't ask how much I drank, if i took drugs, if I was having trouble sleeping etc etc.

Anyway, was so angry threw them in the bin. Was a helpful kick in the butt to me solely cos I was so angry about being fobbed off like that.

Blumin GP's being hand in hand with pharmaceutical companies.

not a holiday. maybe a nice new mouse pad

Guadalupe · 05/09/2008 20:32

The artist that I worked for when I had insomia had melatonin. He wouldn't give it to me, said it was like gold dust here and that I should try valerian. Then he turned up the heater as I shivered. Dreaful thing, insominia. You have my sympathies. Try a herbalist first. That helped me. Well, it helped with the underlying anxiety that was causing mine.

ahundredtimes · 05/09/2008 20:33

BBee? Where are you?

Come and talk to us.

MimsieNet · 05/09/2008 20:33

And it is easy to sonfuse unhappiness with depression sometimes. There was thread earlier today which made me realise how happy I actually am.
(and depression runs through my family like words through a stick of rock)

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 20:35

i swear by nytol. Still the only thing that works for me. Above and beyond the stronger stuff.

Valerian - could drink the whole bloody tincture bottle and not get anywhere.

You have to find your own thing with insomnia. I don't think that any one thing works for all.

Not meaning to piss on anyones melatonin bonfire, i'd like to try that but got a similar esponse to you Guad.
