We had peaches, we had plums, we had strawberries in the sun, but the peaches and the plums, like the strawberries are all gone - 10 / 10 thread

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh! Brilliant! Funnily enough its sort of where my life is at the moment as i've been on a bit of a life sort out. Into nuts at the moment. (god, should i rephrase that?...) and apricots, dried blueberries and gojiberries. anyway gotta go, apparently i'm supposed to give the children breakfast not just sit here on MN! [BLUSH]

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 09:16

I had to wear my wellies to work today. Not a good look with my eye bleedingly bright orange coat.

DH 'helpfully' stashed my waterproof coat in someones bag at Shambala but didn't tell me or him.

It is retrievable, but I don't see him making any efforts to do so.

Well, he will be forking out the £230 it will cost to replace it if it is gone / mouldy / ruined / given to some other freak.

[soaked] [weirdly not looking forward to holiday]

Tatties · 05/09/2008 09:22

Morning! Welcome mou

UR much, much sympathy

Yes indeed there WILL be crisp, cold sunny days and leaf kicking and anniversaries. I have felt the need over the last week to get a bright green coat of some description. Haven't found one yet. And I want to find ds a bright winter coat. And I am not very good at parties but am feeling rather like I would like to have a Halloween party this year it's so not me. Don't know whether I will do it, but this is a time for fresh starts and new beginnings isn't it?

Boco · 05/09/2008 09:38

Hello

Dd2 has a leaf green duffel coat. I hope it fits for a long time, it's already a bit old but it's lovely.

Am going swimming but don't really feel like it. Dd has a lesson - and now my mother has decided to come too and bring my grandparents. Last week my grandma kept getting cramp and sinking and she'd scream and I had to keep swimming over and holding her head up. My grandfather has sudden onset dementia and has become very unpredictable. I love them both very much and it sounds very selfish to complain about them coming, it's just my one bit of uncomplicated time, doing lengths on my own, i really value it, suddenly it's helping get them in and out, hoists, helping my grandmother dress, hoping my grandfather remembers to put on trunks etc. See on main mn i'd be flamed for evilness. Maybe rightly.

Have eaten huge bowl of raspberries and blueberries and muesli.

filthymindedvixen · 05/09/2008 09:54

Oh Tatties, I'm seeking a green coat too Sort of mossy green rather than bright IYKWIM.

Yes, yes, have a party for hallowe'en!

Welcome Mou. We aim for 10 portions of fruit and veg and 10 mins extra exercise a day. But we are flexible on what constitues excercise sometimes...

BBBee · 05/09/2008 10:19

no boco - thinking that is not mean - it is not mean AT ALL. You are only giving yourself a bad time because you are very very nice.

Could you offer for your grandparents to come over for lunch or high tea or something instead? Surely they don;t enjoy the swimming - it sounds a bit ghastly for all.

As to the lengths and peace - you need a bit of that to keep you sane. We all do. some people are good at prioritising and making sure they get it and some you are not and feel guilty.

Like me and francis bacon exhibtion, maybe...

welcome mau - I have seasonal insomnia that kicks in about now - hurrah!

FMX at natty green crod jacket

zippi - you look so svelte i cannot image you large - you have always ben trim haven't you really.

franny - always love to hear from you and babe progress. I don;t want to be partonising but well done for the breast feeding and getting this far - it is a real achivement. No-one said that to me until DS was about 5 months old and a gp said it and I did that silent tears running down my cheeks and then she patted and then I sobbed.

BBBee · 05/09/2008 10:21

tatties - halloween party sounds dleightful. You could make bat mobiles and witches brew.

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 10:24

I am having a very bad day. I have a knot of fear in my stomach. I need some sort of uber strength gin rescue remedy.

I think I might cry.

Why is everything so bloody complicated? Why is not possible to just glide from one situation to another unruffled? Do any of you glide through life? Any advice? Anyone got any valium?

BBBee · 05/09/2008 10:27

sometimes when it is like this I cry adn then I feel self concious (even though it is only me) and then I feel silly and then I tell myself I am being a silly goose and then I feel better.

so:

cry
music and dancing
a nice food
phone a friend
do a yoga sun saluation (or in my case the bit you can remember / do)

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 10:30

an interesting plan. I only have 5 days left of work afterall - how much odder can they think I am

Tatties · 05/09/2008 10:32

Have a cry OB. I have been doing it a lot recently when I feel like it and it does help relieve some of the tension. Also do deep breathing and I know a grounding technique which is quite calming (3 things you see, hear and feel, 2 things you see, hear and feel, 1 thing you see, hear, feel)

Tatties · 05/09/2008 10:34

Also is there anything you are worried about which is really beyond your control? Sometimes I have found that certain things I fret about just need to be 'delegated'

BBBee · 05/09/2008 10:34

are you bacjk at uni soon ob or have i remembered that wrong?

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 10:38

I have to pay for my first installment of tuition fees online by card before term starts or I cannot register / get timetable / choose modules etc etc. We don't have a card. There is no other option.

This is one of the problems.

It seems a bit pathetic now I've written it down, there are other vultures circling but that is the main thing on my mind today.

I have a feeling if I cry it might not stop and I am at work.

DH being a prick on the phone too. Surely he must realise getting aggro with me when I'm at work in an office full of people is not cool. And all because he feels 'rough'. Diddums.

OsmosisBanana · 05/09/2008 10:38

I start on the 22nd.

BBBee · 05/09/2008 10:42

but there must be another option surely they can't assume everyone heas a card?

Boco · 05/09/2008 10:43

Thank you Bee, for making me feel not mean. No they are very much looking forward to swimming. They used to have their own swimming pool and swam every day no matter what the weather and were amazingly fit. But now they're 88, and haven't been able to swim for 3 years so are desperate to go. Last week was first time for my grandma, and as her knees don't work and it hurts her to walk, she found being in the water amazing. Which is why I feel mean frowning about it and wishing I could do my lengths alone.

Still think you should do francis bacon.

We're going to see cy twombly at tate next week as dp very keen. It's my birthday - not sure how my birthday treat has become seeing an artist I really don't get at all, but still, going and seeing friends will be lovely.
