For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Franny, Please don't feel crap, that is why the LLL leader trained in order to help mothers like you. I am sure she will be happy to come out again to help you.

Tatties, Damm, wish I had known about that, before I bought a tube. Good to know though, I have recommened the cream to other mums but the price puts people off.

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2008 12:29

thanks BE
hope yours improves soon

other LLL leader just rang and she thinks she knows the problem
she thinks ds2 has high muscle tone (tries to hold head up, kicks etc when feeding) - and just has a very strong latch, which you can't do much about except ride it out, and try to relax him while feeding - perhaps swaddle him and not let him kick etc
she says it just does hurt but it will get better

it would certainly explain why I end up with a completely stuck finger and nipple when I try to put my finger in to get him to unlatch
he is like vice

Ah, I misunderstood Franny. Any nipple soreness is not nice though. I hope you can get some help. I guess if it is just a strong latch then maybe it is a case of grin and bear it for a while. I think ds had quite a strong latch when he was tiny too.

BE those milk blisters are painful aren't they! I didn't get one until ds was about 1yo or something

Toot, you are very creative in the kitchen. Shame you had to miss out on your pancakes

Sorry for nipple troubles. I suppose a strong latch is a good thing but painful. Hope he can releax a bit as he gets bigger.

OUch, Avi!

Tatties · 22/08/2008 16:44

Ouch Avi!
(not much happening here btw)

Bugger, I just overcooked a WHOLE pan of beans. I was going to freeze them. What can I do with a pile of mushy white beans (they're navy beans, like little white kidney beans)

Hello BBBee, hope you have a good hol

BBBee · 22/08/2008 18:42

i think toot makes a kind of houmous thing with beans that sounds nice.

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2008 18:51

Bee if you are still reading - ds1 LOVED his letter and colouring book, thank you so much
card made me very

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2008 18:53

beans are nice made into a dip
or put into soups? you could still freeze them in portions and just add a bit to a casserole or soup to thicken it or add protein

roast carrots
roast parsnips
nut roast with mushroom sauce
cabbage
sweetcorn

all made by me [preen]
except mushroom sauce made by mr sainsbury

SuperBunny · 22/08/2008 18:56

Yes, will freeze anyway and probably turn into soup. Thank you. Toot, I need to know how to make dip.

I could google, I suppose.

Greensleeves · 22/08/2008 18:56

Franny, you are SERIOUSLY scraping the barrel with these thread titles....don't be afraid to come to me next time, asking for help isn't a weakness

ds2 LOVES his present, thank you so much! We have all been playing it amid much hilarity. It is exactly the sort of thing we do with them in the evenings before bedtime [waltons emoticon]

I have presents for you and your boys too, am particularly proud of ds2's - must get around to mailing them

I am actually not faling too dismally on the F&V front today, I have had tomato soup (homemade, none of yer nasty agent orange Heinzy slime) pear apple orange and peas.... could be worse

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2008 19:00

oh blinking heck Greeny why turn up just as I have to go and do bedtime stuff?

SB, I made dip with broad beans - just whizzed them with tahini, lemon juice, lightly cooked garlic, etc.
OR
have just dug out recipe - not one I've actually tried, but interesting...
Country Gravy
2x15oz tins white beans
1tbsp nutritional yeast
2tbsp margarine
1/2 - 1 cup water or veg broth
olive oil
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp smoked sea salt (optional - just as well, I've never heard of it!)
black pepper
Whizz beans, yeast and margarine until smooth. Add water or broth a little at a time until mixture starts to thicken.
(Is this logical? )
Add mixture to cast iron "skillet" (presumably you have one of these ) that has been pre-heated with olive oil over medium-low heat. Add remaining ingredients and cook briefly until heated through.
They recommend serving this with vegan sausage patties.

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2008 19:36

aaargh Greeny

I have missed you, you old trollop

OP posts:
SuperBunny · 22/08/2008 19:42

Thanks Toot. Will have a go. I've never heard of smnoked sea salt. And I don't have a cast-iron skillet My crappy ikea frying pan has been sufficient so far. Will have a go at the gravy next week and report back.

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2008 19:46

I have just had to admit to dp that instead of wanting him to do the food shopping tomorrow, I actually REALLY REALLY want him to take me to do it myself instead
I have noticed this before, the urge to go and do hunter gathering is very strong indeed
well that is my excuse
it is a sad thing to have difficulty doing without

pinkspottywellies · 22/08/2008 19:50

I don't like fat coke. And I wanted coke. And I'm pregnant

Franny, dd was the same with sucking your finger in when you tried to unlatch. They say gently slip you finger in the corner of thier mouth??!! I had to use both hands and prise her jaw apart!! Didn't have as much trouble with it as you though. Hope things improve.

Bero hope the ds2 carer situation works out.

Hope festy-goers have a great weekend. I'm having an early night cos I feel rubbish.

FrannyandZooey · 22/08/2008 19:54

LLL woman said don't slip finger in as can damage nipple
she said pinch their nose shut and they will let go
seems so ruddy cunning, but when I tried I could hardly GET ds's nose as was smothered by breast, and pinching it did NOT make him let go
I think an earthquake would be unlikely to make him let go
