whereabouts in the country are you toadette? Mine is in just under 3 weeks....! In Wetherby, Yorkshire. I have only run 10k twice, once in about 1 hour 8 and a half mins, then did it again on Sunday and managed 1 hour and 3 minutes so was v.pleased, but also v.knackered! Would love to do under an hour but dont know if I will manage it!

toadette · 19/08/2008 15:24

I'm in NI, HarrogateMum. Good luck with your training, I would love to manage a sub-1hour time too but I don't think I'll manage it this time! Goal after that is a half-marathon by next summer [deluded emoticon]...

HarrogateMum · 19/08/2008 15:31

oh god I just dont think I could do a half marathon...nooo just too hard. I struggle so much with wanting to stop whilst doing the 10k that the thought of doing double that distance fills me with dread. How does anyone do a FULL MARATHON!!??

toadette · 19/08/2008 15:54

I know, can't believe I'm even contemplating the half-marathon but it'll keep me upping the distances as I'd go into hibernation over winter otherwise.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 20/08/2008 08:06

I am not sure I am going to manage the 10k tbh, I am not finding my running mojo again. I am going going to say no until the day though. keep plugging at it.

HarrogateMum · 23/08/2008 15:40

Its my birthday today and I even managed to get out and do 3 miles this morning! And finally managed a sub 10 minute mile pace for the whole thing. Hooray! 3 weeks until my 10km......

KTP · 28/08/2008 06:33

Hello, another lurker joining the thread. So glad I found it - I even managed to find 'Rawb', and have downloaded his first week's podcast and have been for my first run. Abso -bloody- lutely great. Just the incentive I needed. The poor dog didn't know what was up with me!!!

I am aiming for a 5km fun run with my son in 8 weeks time. And not long after, a mini triathlon. Gulp...... think I may have taken on too much!! Hey ho. At least I'm off me (fat) arse.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/08/2008 11:46

Ok I have done no training although I have been going to the gym, I recieved my number for the great run in the post this morning and decided that i am going to do it.
So that is just over one week to get to 10k
plan, 5k today
8k Sunday
5k Next tuesday

Doable????????

toadette · 28/08/2008 12:23

Sockmonsterofdoom , go for it! I've a 10k next weekend and feeling a bit apprehensive too. Have managed 10k distance on one of my normal runs before but we're just back from holidays and I'm feeling very under-prepared and sluggish (probably due to too many late nights and excessive vino!). I ran a couple of times when we were away, 5k and 7.5k, just hoping I can manage the extra few km on the day. Plan is to run 10k tonight if I can make it then 7.5k and 5k's next week before Sunday's race.

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/08/2008 12:45

Is it the same race? I could do 10k tonight but what if I pass out half way round?

toadette · 28/08/2008 14:02

No, it's different 10k sockmonster, one in N.Ireland. Good luck with tonight's run (no stopping or passing out allowed)

I've found I'm really slowing down on my longer runs, down to 11 minute miles rather than 10 minute or just below for 5k's. Will really have to start doing some interval speed training or something to pick it up a bit.

toadette · 28/08/2008 21:55

How did you get on, sockmonster?

I managed the 10k, legs felt a bit heavy at times but got round in about an hour and 8 mins. Will probably feel it in the morning though, ouch! Should really do more stretches...

thesockmonsterofdoom · 29/08/2008 16:20

I didn't get out, had a hen problem and spent a good portion of the day and night sorting out coop and runs and things, was far to knackered to go out, will go tonight (although not really feeling that motivated but I really must go) how many kn is 4 miles?

SparklyPrincess · 29/08/2008 17:55

God I feel so inadequate on here now ...

I'm really chuffed with myself if I do 11 min miles and 5k is a long way!

Itsthawooluff · 01/09/2008 17:10

Don't worry Sparkly - I'm still here chugging away and apparently going backwards, now back to Rawb week 6 . But I aspire to 10k etc etc, just need to find my mojo somewhere [starts opening cupboards, lifting cushions etc, whilst muttering "Here Mojo, here Mojo"

Furball · 01/09/2008 17:31

I think it's on holiday with mine wooluffy! I've struggled to go (even though I have, though only twice a week) Can't wait to be able to go in the day when schools back. I just don't feel like going in the evening. I also haven't been doing 5k only about 3 or 4. but figured that is better than nothing, i think I need to run 2.5k direct to somewhere so I can't just run home when I've had enough

Itsthawooluff · 01/09/2008 17:36

Hi Furball! Good summer? (bitter laugh as rain cascades down window). Maybe my mojo is hydrophobic, and only works when the sun is shining...... could explain everything

SparklyPrincess · 01/09/2008 21:40

Aah, I feel better now ... haven't been out for AGES. Did go on a hiking holiday in the lakes - only managed short walks but mostly did them lugging around either a chubby 18 month old or an almost 3 year old.

So now my knee hurts. Hence the lack of running since. Or maybe my mojo's under the cushions somewhere... or posted into something by DD2.

I know what you mean about running home when you've had enough, furball. I go further if I do a 'there-and-back' but its not as interesting.

Itsthawooluff · 02/09/2008 13:14

OK, so I promise I will go out by Friday. I have got to get back into a routine!

gscrym · 02/09/2008 13:20

I'm still on week 2 of Rawb after having to take a long break due to torn ligaments.

Will try to move onto week 3 tonight.

Itsthawooluff · 04/09/2008 13:58

I am going out on Friday - Iam I am. Enough of this pathetic whining "It's wet , It's cold, it's not supposed to be like this in August". I really, really need to get the endorphins going, and that means that I need to run.

I was even getting thighs you could see muscle in (under the fat) - so I need to bloody get on with it!

Perhaps I could join a club, but I always have a mental image of marines running in formation singing "I don't know, but I've been told .............."

Mikafan · 04/09/2008 14:05

My legs slim down very quickly once I train regularly but I still have my very fat stomach (DD is 15 months)

Furball · 04/09/2008 14:14

I was supposed to be going today, but it's so dank out there, decided sainsburys was a better option. Will go tomorrow if it's dry.

Mikafan · 05/09/2008 09:14

I'm running in a 5k on Sunday - please don't let it rain

SparklyPrincess · 05/09/2008 12:32

Stay optimistic Mikafan!

Or think positive - the rain will keep you cool!

STILL haven't been out running. My leg is in a right old state. Twisted my ankle a couple of weeks ago, still feels a bit weak and my knee is really sore going down hills or stairs - god knows what that's about. And for some reason my calf muscle also feels really tight. Probably cos the rest of the legs in such a state!

Might have to go swimming instead just so I'm getting some sort of exercise!
