For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

thank you avi. I'm not worried about the eating really - ds1 didn't eat much until a year or so - but the back-arching thing (often accompanied by a cry - pain or frustration/discontent, I can't tell) makes me wonder. I think he probably sleeps too well at night for it to be reflux.

berolina · 30/07/2008 20:50

oh he has fallen asleep upright against me I am going to make my broad beans and bulgur wheat.

FrayedKnot · 30/07/2008 20:51

Bero generally I think he sounds fine. Not sure about the arching - is it kind of throwing himself backwards or more a discomfort thing?

DS was absolutely hyper at that age - always on the move, never kept still for a nanosecond. He slept for about 3/4 hour in the mornings (if that) and an hour maybe in the afternoon, but I usually had to sleep with him (with nipple attached ) or take him out in the buggy, otherwise he wouldn;t.

Sorry stitches are not right Franny. Hope GP can advise.

DS2 weight gain sounds brilliant. Did you tell the BF people when they rang?

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2008 20:58

no i was out when they rang
what shall i say to them?

fruit salad

FrannyandZooey · 30/07/2008 20:59

oh cabbage x 2 and corn as well

FrayedKnot · 30/07/2008 21:45

Just thinking about you telling BF people how much weight DS2 has put on, and how helpful the LLL person was when you were so desperate, you don;t know what you would have done if she hadn;t materialized, etc etc.

Said in a voice that could split an iceberg.

Sorry am feeling vengeful on your behalf

Guadalupe · 30/07/2008 22:17

Your midwife is a twonk.

I don't know what that means but it sounds funny.

LOL at this thread. I need a bong, ds was a bloddy pain going to bed tonight and I seem to have been looking after many children all day. Ds1 is having a sleepover but they are watching a dvd at the moment. No trouble really.

BBBee · 30/07/2008 22:31

I don't know franny - I think if it was me I would prepare an angry speech with statistics and things and then when they phoned I would do a mumbling grunt and an apology - or crying and madness.

the only certain thin I can tell you is not to take my advice.

Boco - your repsonse in the 'I kicked a badger...' thread had me sniggering all day.

White dog poo - how retro. you really do live in a little time capsule.

UnderRated · 31/07/2008 00:17

Oh Franny, that arrived quickly. I am still learning to crochet and they were my first booties so I hope they are ok.

Banana
Veg lasagne
1/2 peach.
Crappity crap.

berolina · 31/07/2008 08:15

FK thank you Tbh I think the throwing backwards in restlessness - he doesn't seem in discomcort really, and as I said he sleeps generally well at night and in the sling (usually ). He needs constant contact with me really and sometimes I think he has more energy than his body really knows what to do with yet. His 1-year check is not too far away, and I don't think I'm worried enough to have it looked at before then.

Disappointing broad beans last night and 2 moudly nectarines in the fruit bowl this morning Have had one non-mouldy one, a plum and a pear.

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2008 09:25

Oh MrsC that is Papillon's thread - it's fab isn't it? Paps was an original 10 / 10 er but now she hardly ever makes it to the thread

fruit with breakfast
dp kindly makes so I don't pay much attention to what is in it, I just eat it

ds wants me to draw "a map of (our town) with all the burglars' secret hideouts and all the getaway points marked on it. It doesn't have to be VERY VERY good"

apparently it can't be printed, it has to be hand drawn, and it has to have all the hideouts and getaway points marked with flags

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2008 09:26

I think if I tell the bf people how well ds2 is doing it will just reinforce their belief they are doing an adequate job

FrannyandZooey · 31/07/2008 09:27

dp has just discovered Tom has drawn diagrams of my fanjo in my notes
he is not too chuffed about it
heh

TigerFeet · 31/07/2008 09:29

If I were a braver person I would say something like "He's feeding beautifully now, no thanks to you though, I had to find support elsewhere."

But I am a wuss

So I would probably say "It's all fine now thanks"

TigerFeet · 31/07/2008 09:30

fanjo diagrams? oh my.

yogurt with pomegranate, mango & blueberries and some seeds sprinkled in for good measure.

Guadalupe · 31/07/2008 09:32

Mango, peach, apple, banana and raspberry fruit salad with youghurt and it was bloody lovely.

I can hardly belive all of this fantastic weather we're having. Is it the same all over the country? It's been day after day of blue skies and sun here.

ds1 and friend were chatting at 4.55 this morning. I was Not Pleased. I was stern through the door and they went back to sleep but I couldn't drop off again, started thinking about cous cous and quinoi salads I have to make for a wedding on Saturday. 100 people

OsmosisBanana · 31/07/2008 09:36

Tricksy. I would either end up ranting at them and saying 'no thanks to you' or doing that 'British' thing of not complaining at all.

Maybe you could get Pap to cast a spell on BF counsellor and weirdo MW.

I have an amusing image of FK shooing away an over eager stitches inspector! I got DH to check mine (lucky man!) as I figured he knew better what it was like before. And had a vested interest in them healing well. Ack thrrp to people who know what they're doing, call in DH seems to be the rule in this house.

OsmosisBanana · 31/07/2008 09:41

It is not nice weather here. And has been pretty horrendous all week. Not a great deal of sun, warm, VERY sticky, quite a lot of rain. The kind of weather that makes you really angry and the smallest job seem a monumental effort.

Car people coming to pick courtesy wagon up today. Pray they don't spot the bingle.... Could really do with not throwing another £250 down the drain.

TF- Rather poor show in the crikkit what?

TigerFeet · 31/07/2008 09:44

I am going to lock Michael Vaughan and his cricket whites in my bedroom shed so he can go nowhere near a wicket until he remembers how to goddam bat. [fume]

TigerFeet · 31/07/2008 09:45

SA are 30something-1 though so all not yet lost.

littlerach · 31/07/2008 09:49

Guad, that's a lot o people.

Not so blue here, more overcsat with some blue occasionally.

We have courgettes (by the bucketful).

But the carrots are about a cm long .
Do I leave them longer or accept they aren't growing?

Veg chilli last night, whci DD1 ate.

And enjoyed.

She can be very fussy, so was a breakthrough.

Franny, I'd call them back and mention (casually) that you are doing just fine, thanks ot the nice lady that helped you out. And enforce the fact that she wasn't oneof theirs.

OsmosisBanana · 31/07/2008 09:49

Bleurgh. Why do I let them get my hopes up?

TigerFeet · 31/07/2008 09:50

It's overcast here and has rained briefly. Today's the first day in ages that it hasn't been sunny. It's so stuffy [gasp]

BBBee · 31/07/2008 10:56

dear hospital ninnies

I want to let you know that despite your complete lack of support with regard me breastfeeding my son he is feeding very well. Had it not been for the support of LLL and my own determination to breast feed I am very sure that this would not have been a success.

Given the countless proven health benefits of breast feeding I am shocked at the lack of support I received from you, particularly as breast feeding has long term helth benefits, investing support at this stage would save the NHS money in the future.

I sincerely hope you intend to address this issue in the future.

Or in short - you were crap!

Love Franny

DD and I are making a clothkits dolly today whilst DS is at some outdoors nature thing. I am drinking tea and I am hoping for a peaceful day.

MrsC - lot of people to cook for but in my (limited) experience these thongs are worrying but always end up okay.
