For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page.

I cried throughout black beauty - watched it a few months ago and still recovering myself.

Guadalupe · 27/07/2008 22:40

It was endlessly heartbreaking thought wasn't it, I mean, how much can happen to one horse? Poor Ginger being wheeled off on that cart.

UnderRated · 27/07/2008 22:41

Oh Boco, I'm sure they'll be fine. It doesn't make you a bad parent - I'm sure all kids see things that are probably not ideal at some point.

UnderRated · 27/07/2008 22:42

I am glad I haven't seen Black Beauty

Guadalupe · 27/07/2008 22:45

Yes, my mother let me watch The Omen when I was 10. She actually got me up at 11pm to watch it three consecutive Saturdays.

That is the same age as ds1 now

Guadalupe · 27/07/2008 22:47

I have just noticed that my cornetto has been dribbling chocolate from a hole in the bottom onto the white part of my white and black skirt. I give up. I am going to bed.

Guadalupe · 27/07/2008 22:48

I have had this skirt for years too without stainage. It reminds me of my graduation, but then that is because I wore it to my graduation.

TooTicky · 27/07/2008 22:48

A complete stranger on Freecycle is lending us a bike rack for the holiday. Aren't people wonderful!!!!!!

Yay, that's great, Toot.

TooTicky · 27/07/2008 22:51

How are you UR?

OP posts:
UnderRated · 27/07/2008 22:54

Bit glum tbh

Think I'll watch a film and do some crocheting in a bit then go to bed v early. Am a crotchety witch atm.

How are you?

TooTicky · 27/07/2008 22:57

Me okay. Just finding out what the summer holidays are going to be like, balance of personalities, etc. Dd1 and ds1 took themselves for 10 mile bike ride earlier

UnderRated · 27/07/2008 23:03

Wow, that's a long way. How independent they are. I imagine having 4 at home all day for weeks on end could be challenging. Do you have lots of plans?

TooTicky · 27/07/2008 23:07

Well, we are going to the sea from Tuesday to the following Weds courtesy of kind chalet-owning friends. Then 2 days later dd1 is off camping with St John Ambulance.
The week after that dd1 is doing lacrosse and ds1 is doing archery and athletics.
Throw in the village fete, a few library trips and swimming sessions and we are sorted, non?

OP posts:
UnderRated · 27/07/2008 23:12

Sounds busy. But that's a good thing. Hope you enjoy your chalet - v lucky. I want to go away. Still, having mum here is a bit like a holiday but more tiring!

TooTicky · 27/07/2008 23:20

Oh, my mum is coming with us. Part of me wants to scream. She is lovely, but even so.

OP posts:
UnderRated · 27/07/2008 23:22

I feel like that about mine. She is lovely. But being in close confines is not good for us! Mothers, eh?

Were you always vegan? I've ordered some books from the library about it. I think it would be too hard for us to change but I am very interested.

TooTicky · 27/07/2008 23:26

I went veggie when I was 11/12, vegan when I was 16.
I then un-veganed when I was 18 and working in a Texaco garage and re-veganed 4 or 5 years ago.
Milk has always given me the creeps. I used to have to stay in every playtime at school when I was 5 because I hadn't drunk my milk. Thin blue straws and slurpy noises still make me feel nauseous.

Being vegan is good. It makes me feel really clean inside. Be prepared to go off dairy tastes/smells quite violently though. Once they are out of your system you probably won't want them back.

UnderRated · 27/07/2008 23:29

OK, that's interesting. Maybe like white carbs - if I don't eat them, I stop craving them. Will see what happens.

I remember crying at nursery because they made me finish my milk - it was all warm and had been sitting out all morning

TooTicky · 27/07/2008 23:31

Ick at warm nursery milk.

oh TooT, I didn't realise, and we brought you dairy-containing pasta when we came to yours

I have been (ovo-lacto) veggie for about 15 years. dh and dses eat meat, but we very, very rarely have it in the house. ILs cook very strong meat very German-ly and traditionally and I find it very hard to be there . Don't think I would be ready to give up dairy atm, but I am trying to cut down on it in my cooking.

Am sorry you are glum, UR. Will the crocheting be cheering or soothing for you?

UnderRated · 27/07/2008 23:37

Yes, cheese might be a problem. I need to be better about my sugar consumption. Am going to make a big effort with eating well this week.

I never watch scary films. I hate them. And sad ones too.

UnderRated · 27/07/2008 23:39

Am attempting to crochet a shawl to take out when it is 30' outside but freezing whenever you go anywhere airconditioned. I have never made anything for myself, always for DS or other people.
