For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Hello
Stage 2 was even weirder than stage 1.
Have just come back from cleaning his kitchen and trying to sort out £1000 worth of food!
All quite sad really.

Will look at interesting looking links now.

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2008 18:50

Boco blimey

my mother keeps ringing and says she wants to ring every day now 'just to check if I am ok'
I said this could get wearing for both of us if it goes on for 2 weeks or more
the thing is she is not actually interested in anything I have to say, and doesn't want to talk whether I do or not
she just wants to ring and say "are you alright?" "yes" "ok bye" type thing
I am rolling my eyes at it already

oh and EVERY SINGLE TIME SHE PHONES she has to mention SPD (or rather "that thing you have") and say "well I've never heard of it before"
thereby implying it is some odd thing I've probably imagined, or made up

I was given a whole roast chicken - cooked today, but then left out. I couldn't throw it, but am too scared to eat it too. What do you think? It's been a hot day and i don't even know if it was covered.

Boco · 29/06/2008 19:06
  • and sorry Franny, that would annoy me too, at least it's brief and she's not wanting a long conversation each time.
Guadalupe · 29/06/2008 19:06

probably fine if you heat it properly, though I am sure you're not supposed to with health and safety

filthymindedvixen · 29/06/2008 19:07

oh Boco, hate that sort of thing. I have never had food poisoning but am rather paranoid...

Franny - how annoying!

very full after my roast chicken - sweet pots, cabbage, mange toutes, cauli, brocolli, carrots, beans and starwberries for pud.

Makes up for sweets and popcorn I had at cinema. Went with boys to watch the Water Horse and sobbed all the way through virtually! (small lonely boy in distress movies always do that to me. Really enjoyed the film actually but avoid with very young children)

Guadalupe · 29/06/2008 19:11

I have had food poisoning but I was pregnant and it was from crayfish.

Also stuffed from a roast, lamb, butternut squash, pointy cabbage, peas and carrots and fouur yorkshires. But, they were Aunt Bessies as I couldn't be faffed so they were light as air really. Ahem. Oh, then chocolate swiss roll.

Boco - It sounds very surreal

Boco · 29/06/2008 19:38

I don't think I want to risk it.

There was so much food left over, and nowhere to put it. I was helping to find space and move things from the marquees, and found that his fridge was FULL of rotting food, really bad meat, everything was old and filthy and stinky. He is on his own, his cleaner was drunk and weird and clearly not doing much cleaning when she's supposed to - was a bit worrying. So stayed and cleaned his fridges and found space for what I could fit in. It's a bit sad though.

Guadalupe · 29/06/2008 19:46

Oh dear. That is sad isn't it?

Better not eat the bird then, you are probably put off by looking at the rotting food anyway.

Can you go and see him once a week or something? I don't know if that sounds like a drag or a possibility. Depends on how you get on with him, with some people it might be nice to go and chat and help a bit or just have a cup of tea, especially if you have had vastly different lives. Might be interesting. I don't know how you would bring it up though, maybe pop over with a batch of biscuits to say thanks for the party?

Guadalupe · 29/06/2008 19:49

also, the book blurb doesn't sound as good on that website, it seemed mush more pertinent on the amazon one but it said my name at the top so I didn't want to link it.

I know someone who has had EXACTLY the same issues with her daughter and a group of friends so I will ask her if she found anything particularly helpful.

littlerach · 29/06/2008 19:51

Can any of you lovely ladies help me here www.mumsnet.com/Talk/8/557693

FrayedKnot · 29/06/2008 20:22

Hellooo

Boco yes it does sound a bit sad about the party man. Could you befriend him a little? Is he nice?

Littlerach sorry to hear about DD (have read thread). I wish I had some advice but I don't know....not something I have had to deal with really. I hope you get some more help on the thread soon.

Gym, swimming with DS, picnic, park, supermarket, laundry, cooked dinner & made a cake, ironing.

That was my day. It didn;t involve much in the way of relaxing. Does anyone ever have a day when they just...don;t do stuff?

Franny do you have an answerphone?

filthymindedvixen · 29/06/2008 20:35

littleRAch, I can't think of anything constructive at themo. Will give it some thoughts.

Boco · 29/06/2008 20:59

He is nice, but he's very very nother weld. He doesn't give eye contact at all, he's probably the poshest person I've ever met - he's never had to work in his life. He had a life of parties and socialising in London before moving here - so can do elaborate parties - but not really conversation, and now that he's had a stroke the conversation bit is even harder. I went to a dinner party years ago that he had, and he bled heavily all over the pudding that he gave me, and barked 'it's just a scratch from a chicken, it's fine, eat!' I like him mostly because he looks and sounds like my grandfather so I've got a weird sense of family responsibility where none really exists. I'd be happy to go and see him, but he'd stare awkwardly in the other direction and mutter. I hope he's ok though.

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2008 21:09

oh yikes @ bled on pudding

FK yes, but me not answering will be interpreted as further evidence that there is Something Wrong

oh I will just tell her no DON'T ring every day, dp will phone her if there is a problem, and I don't want anyone phoning every day for potentially 3 weeks to ask if anything has happened

Banana, apple, satsumas, nectarine, cornish pasty (one portion of swede/onion), oj, mushrooms, beans, tomato, strawberries. 10 Yay me and walk on the beach, paddling and climbing rocks/pebble dunes. Huzzah!!!!!!!!

Franny, it's amazing - you hardly look pg from the back! Not long now eh?! I'll ring you every day now just to make sure everything's ok

Haven't read everything. What's going on? hearing about all the worrying girls behaviour (Boco/littlerach) terrifies me. I don't know how I'll cope when dd gets bigger Ask on MN I guess

Hope everyone's ok. I'm haivng a lovely lovely time with my mum (well, ok she's a bit annoying) and my uncle and his family came yesterday and my sister today to see us and it's all fab!

FrannyandZooey · 29/06/2008 21:37

oh I forgot to say we went to Ivor
ds didn't want a t-shirt, or a book
I didn't really feel able to buy one for myself

and he got a trophy for his lettuces etc, but it has all been a little less than perfect because he is still struggling with tiredness and worries and frustration and crossness
I feel really crap that I can't help him more
