.... Are you sending a subliminal message? If so, what's the message and who's it aimed at?

Thread is inspired by the recent sight of a young woman with a huge trout pout, her lips were so puffed up she couldn't talk normally.

Why do people do this?

Just out of curiosity…

Are my filled lips “noticeable?” So far no one has ever mentioned it, even when filler has been discussed.

The problem is that we only see ourselves from the front and inanimate. Filled lips are a give away from the side view and when you talk. Your lower lip is very uneven and I would assume, as a professional, you’d had trauma and your lip was scared. Or that it was filled. They are really easy to spot when you feel them, I have to as part of my job.

Also, the blood vessels are traumatised when fillers are injected and shrivel up leaving the lip very lumpy when you are close up. A few of my older patients have been having fillers for some years and as the skin looses elasticity they become really floppy and misshapen.

Who says top lips are not supposed to be same size as bottom lips? Did someone decide?

It’s an anatomical feature. I don’t think that in 40 yrs as a dentist, I’ve seen one set of lips where the upper lip has been the same size as the lower. That is until recent years, they are always filled, that’s how we know.

The great thing is that those of us blessed with big lips no longer feel like freaks of nature. I hated mine when I was a teenager.

My DS inherited the family big lips. He has had a lot of girls photo his lips to show their aesthetician how they want their lips to look. I have a photo of my grandmother as a young woman who would definitely not look out of place today but they didn’t have lip fillers in the 1930s.
