.... Are you sending a subliminal message? If so, what's the message and who's it aimed at?

Thread is inspired by the recent sight of a young woman with a huge trout pout, her lips were so puffed up she couldn't talk normally.

Why do people do this?

It seems to me that there are loads of MNers struggling to pay the bills and put food on the table

Yet another significant proportion have enough cash to throw away pumping their faces full of stuff

It boggles me 🤣🤣

Sometimes they are the same people.

Just out of curiosity…

Are my filled lips “noticeable?” So far no one has ever mentioned it, even when filler has been discussed.

Nobody walking down the street would know you had lip filler. These people saying you can tell are wild.

namechanged221 · 30/10/2025 07:38

@SugarPlumpFairyCakes

No one 'says' that.... it's just reality.

Have a look at people's mouths.

The lower lips are always slightly larger.

Chewbecca · 30/10/2025 08:30

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 30/10/2025 06:38

Who says top lips are not supposed to be same size as bottom lips? Did someone decide?

Well yes, it's anatomy.

Your lips look good. Wouldn't have known.

I'm referring to the Pete Burns look.

These are mine last time I had them done. I would argue you would not know I had had filler, ever.

You would

So what's the subliminal message when teenage boys have their jeans hanging around under their bum showing their Y-fronts? Don't you ever wonder?

Wikepedia says:

The style was popularized by hip-hop musicians in the 1990s.

It is often claimed the style originated from the United States prison system where belts are sometimes prohibited due to fear that they could be used as a makeshift weapon, and there can be a lack of appropriately sized clothing. As a result, their pants would sag.

Another, more controversial origin story, is that men who wanted to present themselves as sexually available to other men, sagged their pants to display their rear end, which later on started to inadvertently be perceived as a mark of having been incarcerated, and gave the wearer street cred.

@Sensoive also had female work colleagues , new friends etc say that they had no idea id had my lips done. I can assure you they look completely natural, like the lady in the picture posted below this comment. So no. You cannot ‘always always’ notice.

Trust me they know, everyone does. Its very obvious.

I don’t trust you. Everybody doesn’t. It’s not very obvious at all.
Maybe you should trust me on this one.

No one is allowed to notice that lips have been done - it’s too personal and anyway the damage is done so it’s no point

if it’s impossible to tell then you wouldn’t have them done would you? If no one could see any difference?

Completely untrue. I didn’t have mine done to shout it from the rooftops. I did it to improve my smile, make me more confident and feel more attractive. All these people saying everyone knows and everyone who says they didn’t notice is lying are completely crackers. How does anyone know what ‘everyone’ is thinking or feeling about something ..it blows my mind it really does.

PerkyCyanPoet · 30/10/2025 09:52

I really do not understand why anyone cares if someone else has filler/botox/whatever.

KiwiMum2023 · 30/10/2025 10:48

It cracks me up that both posters who have shared images of their done lips think they are not obvious.

Sparklesandspandexgallore · 30/10/2025 11:07

I think those who have lots of filler and big fake eyelashes etc are going for a different look than those who just want their lips to be a tiny bit bigger.
I think they know they look false, in the same way that people who bleach their hair very blonde yet have black roots showing kind of know it looks fake.
They don’t keep up with having their roots done, nor do they go for a dark, more natural looking blonde. I see people with obviously dyed and fake hair who also have very unnatural looking lips, botoxed faces, long elaborately painted nails, spider eyelashes and fake tan. This look is obviously fake looking and I assume the ones who look like this like it, and are not trying to convince anyone that this is how they were born.

TeenLifeMum · 30/10/2025 11:30

I have realised that in loud environments I lip read. Lip filler means I can’t understand what people are saying. It doesn’t even need to be lots.

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 30/10/2025 11:44

I don't think it's always about beauty because the women I see out and about with lips like that don't make any effort with any other aspect of their appearance.

When it is about beauty I think it's because it's impossible (without surgery or even with) to make yourself look like someone whose beauty is undefinable. But Instagram 'beauty' is more attainable in a way because women can copy the big lips, lashes, plump (weird) cheekbones, eyebrows.

Facial expressions make such a big difference to how beautiful someone is too. Someone objectively plain can look beautiful if they have a lovely smile. And so much communication is done through expression.

I think you are wrong, you can tell by the deformation around your mouth.
having said that, they are reasonably discreet.
OP is talking about seriously deformed lips.
My SIL has been gradually increasing her lip volume for years. Frankly its distracting when shes talking.
Its delusional.
I fail to see how its even vaguely attractive

HeadNorth · 31/10/2025 07:36

The people posting photos are just enbarrassing themselves.

It is when people move their mouths and talk you really get the uncanny valley effect. I saw clips of Victoria Beckham sepaking recently - she is a prime example. Her lips are not ridiculously overfilled. But they don't look natural and they are distracting when she talks. I refuse to believe she would not look better with her original lips.

CherryRipe1 · 31/10/2025 18:14

Does anyone think Yungblud has had his lips done? I'm no expert but they look 'pillowy' and much bigger than when he was yung.
