Which everyday shoes for plantar fasciitis?

dearydeary · 06/06/2025 11:07

Hi

I am currently suffering from this and have seen a podiatrist.

Usually I wear Birkenstocks (gizeh, mayari, arizona) and converse.

I think the converse triggered this and need an alternative.

I am a size 42 if that helps!

Thanks in advance

FitFlops were brilliant when I started suffering from PF. Definitely avoid Converse!

ChocolateCinderToffee · 06/06/2025 11:11

Brooks trainers

AuntieDolly · 06/06/2025 11:39

I second fitflops!

dearydeary · 06/06/2025 12:34

Thanks for the recommendations

Which particular Fitflops or Brooks?

Joyas, they cost a fortune but they are amazing

onmywaytowonderland · 06/06/2025 12:37

Skechers.

RaininSummer · 06/06/2025 12:41

Thirding Fitflops.

GetMeOutOfHere20 · 06/06/2025 12:42

FitFlops made it worse - Vionic are very good

GetMeOutOfHere20 · 06/06/2025 12:43

And Brooks’ trainers

I started wearing Nike AF1s instead of converse and it made a huge difference. The converse are just too flat. I also put insoles into all my boots which helped a lot.

nonsensicalmess · 06/06/2025 13:12

Vionic definitely! Even just wearing my vionic slippers around the house for a few days when wfh etc sorts the odd flare up I get.

GetMeOutOfHere20 · 06/06/2025 13:12

Not Nike AF1 too flat.

passmeaglass · 06/06/2025 13:28

I wear fit flops in the house instead of slippers. I’ve bought half insoles to go in my shoes - have 3 pairs that are in the main shoes I wear - so I still wear vejas and other flat shoes with the insoles in.

Cavalierorwhat · 06/06/2025 13:29

Clarks funny dream shoes helped me a lot. I like the style too but maybe not everyone’s taste.

stayathomer · 06/06/2025 13:31

Another for brooks (handy as you can get an all black version so can wear as shoes as long as you’re a casual person clothes wise!)

CaptainMyCaptain · 06/06/2025 13:31

Converse are terrible for PF. I wear Birkenstocks in the house and ordinary shoes/trainers with orthotics from Boots inside. Obviously this doesn't work with sandals.

Zout · 06/06/2025 13:33

I find Fitville do a good range. The physio told me to wear Archie’s in the house which I hate but they do work.

Zout · 06/06/2025 13:34

Oh most important to wear inserts (in shoes). Shows themselves are not enough.

Arran2024 · 06/06/2025 13:36

See if there is an orthopedic type shoe shop near you where you can try on various brands and they can advise.

I have some vionics but the shop near me stopped stocking them - they said they were too narrow for most people.

dearydeary · 06/06/2025 13:49

Thanks so much

zout which inserts do you recommend? 😊

support the arch, stop wearing the converse, hoka/similar are fab - have plantar fasciitis and its awful, got rid of mine
also exercising your foot before you get up/rested the feet

LieutenantJumboJr · 06/06/2025 13:51

Absolutely not ASICS Gel Kayano’s I saw them recommended on loads of places, I got about 100m down the road and the pain flared up so bad I took them off and walked back home in my socks.

Arran2024 · 06/06/2025 13:58

There's a book called The Foot Fix which you can get off amazon which is pretty good

Do you mean like their sliders or other? Yeah I don’t wear slippers indoors like furry ones etc, even the ones that say memory foam, they go flat quickly lol for me anyway. And I had a pair of sliders from Primark they were doing lots of colours that looked like big cushions lol were okay but wanted to try and get something with arch support. Ended up because of a friend that I shouldn’t have listened to, getting Adidas sliders, and they kill my feet unfortunately cut the labels off, and although they were only worn indoors as was the planned use for. I didn’t take them back to exchange, as they are from Sports Direct. And so that is £20 down the drain 🤦‍♀️ so they have gone up for sale on eBay 😆 and now hoping with anything I make on them, I can use towards something decent!

Arran2024 · 06/06/2025 14:22

I have fitflop slippers. They are not easy to get hold of. They often do them around Christmas. They don't have a toe separator.
