Which everyday shoes for plantar fasciitis?

dearydeary · 06/06/2025 11:07

Hi

I am currently suffering from this and have seen a podiatrist.

Usually I wear Birkenstocks (gizeh, mayari, arizona) and converse.

I think the converse triggered this and need an alternative.

I am a size 42 if that helps!

Thanks in advance

You may indeed need something to accommodate while the condition is acute. I’d really encourage you to sign up for https://www.petrafishermovement.com/free-your-feet/

Petra really is the medium to long term solution. The sooner you start stretches the better. I had to start calf stretches in. Ed before even getting up until my calf muscles were able to stretch enough for my feet to be comfortable. Enjoy.

Do you mean like their sliders or other? Yeah I don’t wear slippers indoors like furry ones etc, even the ones that say memory foam, they go flat quickly lol for me anyway. And I had a pair of sliders from Primark they were doing lots of colours that looked like big cushions lol were okay but wanted to try and get something with arch support. Ended up because of a friend that I shouldn’t have listened to, getting Adidas sliders, and they kill my feet unfortunately cut the labels off, and although they were only worn indoors as was the planned use for. I didn’t take them back to exchange, as they are from Sports Direct. And so that is £20 down the drain 🤦‍♀️ so they have gone up for sale on eBay 😆 and now hoping with anything I make on them, I can use towards something decent!

I think it’s these - actual flip flops with toe posts if the link doesn’t work. I wear them with socks, looks a bit interesting but in the house I don’t care!

Fitflops have always been a dream but the new pair I've bought have chewed my feet up. Came home with bits of bacon for feet and shoes soaked in blood.

My friend suffers and swears by Crocs. You won't get me anywhere near them, but she lives in them with her PF.

TokyoSushi · 06/06/2025 15:37

I'm just coming out the other side of a horrendous year of this and have tried basically everything!

Has you podiatrist recommended shock wave therapy? It's amazing and I'm about 95% cured after everything else failed!

buckleten · 06/06/2025 16:02

I recommend Vionics as well as Birkenstocks super comfortable. Skechers - only the arch fit variety.

MayaPinion · 06/06/2025 16:08

Fly Flot (you can find them on Amazon) are fantastic for PF, though the shoes are seriously fugly.

sciaticafanatica · 06/06/2025 16:26

Croc sliders as slippers at home, really helped mine .

foxychox · 06/06/2025 16:33

Oofos, mostly they have sliders but I think they might do trainers as well. Super comfy and therapeutic for PF

Bobbybobbins · 06/06/2025 16:35

I am 4 years in to having plantar fasciitis and have bought Skechers arch support - finding them really good along with a support sock from Amazon. I have tried quite a few things.

TuesdaysAreBest · 06/06/2025 16:39

Anything with good arch support. Avoid all completely flat shoes. Time will heal it, not special shoes.

Berlinrover · 06/06/2025 16:40

I wear sliders or just regular trainers in the house, was wearing crocs but I don’t think they were good for me after a while.

When I’m going outside I use inserts

I’m going to Spain in the summer so I’ll need to look into fitflops or Birkenstocks I think. I find sketchers are good too. I have a pair of converse i love that I wear about three times a year but they’re not for regular use!

jljlj · 06/06/2025 16:40

Converse in the bin - never wear again.

Get a pair of well cushioned, supportive trainers. I like Asics.

ElixirOfLife · 06/06/2025 16:42

I recently started getting PF. I think it was from trying to do the running man!
I’m clearly too old for this stuff.

I have seen anyone about it but I have all the symptoms. Is it an age thing? Is it curable? I always thought it was an injury but I had no idea so many people suffered with it.

All my shoes are flat. I thought that flat shoes are good shoes!

It will go away in it's own time but can take a year or more. Supportive shoes and/or orthotics can relieve the symptoms but not cure it.

Edit: what is the running man?

Not necessarily age. I first got it in my early 30s and I think it was due to wearing those really flimsy ballet type shoes and walking and standing a lot after years of working in education, retail and hospitality. Plus I lived in big cities where I’d do a lot of walking. I’d also put on a bit of weight which I imagine may have exacerbated it.

I also went to a running shop so they could analyse my gait and apparently I have some over pronation which puts some stress on my feet.

I recovered from it in about 6 months and 6 years on have never got it again but occasionally my sole will feel slightly tender as if it’s on the verge of coming back. I then just cut down on walking for a few days or change my inserts or shoes.

Ineedanaptoo · 06/06/2025 17:00

New balance. I get the ones with a wider box toe. Can walk on them all day out of the box

CanelliniBeans · 06/06/2025 17:33

I couldn’t get on with vionic. Found them so uncomfortable. Sketchers helped mine and crocs. Crocs recommended by podiatrist

You know shuffling? It’s the basis of that dance, I was giving it a go..

I walk a lot and I’ve put a lot of weight on so could be related to that too. Glad to hear it’s not for life. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Needlenardlenoo · 06/06/2025 19:09

Skechers arch fit.

dearydeary · 06/06/2025 19:13

Sketchers Arch Fit & Go Walk
Birkenstock Bend

I've chucked all my Birkenstock sandals and Converse

waltzingparrot · 06/06/2025 19:26

Any style you like from the Skechers Arch Fit range. Sorted my PF out - not had it for 5 years now due to wearing these.
