Which everyday shoes for plantar fasciitis?

dearydeary · 06/06/2025 11:07

Hi

I am currently suffering from this and have seen a podiatrist.

Usually I wear Birkenstocks (gizeh, mayari, arizona) and converse.

I think the converse triggered this and need an alternative.

I am a size 42 if that helps!

Thanks in advance

I have both converse and Birkenstock arizona/gizeh/mayari- I wonder if these need to go?

My practice nurse told me that I was straining my feet keeping my Birki sandals on. The only ones I have left are shearling Arizonas as I only wear them to keep my feet warm at home or popping out to get milk.

I kept a pair of Converse I loved, but didn't wear them for a couple of summers. Tried them last month and took them off at 10 minutes. There's no bounce in the soles.

I also wear Ecco Offroad walking sandals now

Thanks for replying. That's interesting to know

A discussion on feet worth listening to on DOAC podcast, even if he does go on and on about his own problem. For me the key is exercise and barefoot shoes. open.spotify.com/episode/45rJW8BWKfTw7JDmSZIr9i?si=NWJwGqj3TnOYaH2gzEWcGg

Hoka recovery sliders around the house, never barefoot. Also got some new balance trainers recently which have great support.

I wear Oofos sliders around house as recommended by podiatrist. Brooks trainers if walking a lot on hard surfaces. Vionic trainers for a more fashionable look and walking streets etc.

Archies sliders are also very good.

these completely cured it for me. I sized up in normal trainers by one size and have 3 pairs so I don’t need to keep swapping between footwear

Thank you

I’ve suffered from it on and off for 3 years, thankfully clear of pain now since a year. Combo of shockwave and acupuncture, along with wearing an arch support in my trainers for 2 weeks in the house and out fixed it for me.

Goatblu · 06/06/2025 22:02

Birkenstocks constantly unless I have to go out in rain/snow then I have insoles for boots and trainers.

BCBird · 06/06/2025 22:16

I have bought Vionic insoles to put in my shoes as cannot really afford Vionic shoes.

Which Birkenstocks?

I am hearing mixed reviews!

You will get mixed reviews for everything as everyone is different.
The combination that works for me and was recommended by the physio is wide cushioned trainers and the stretches on the stairs a couple of times a day.

dearydeary · 07/06/2025 08:14

Thanks hexsnidgett

That is so helpful and true!

I should say, I go a size up on new balance. Buying them from Amazon etc can be very hit and miss size wise as I think because of American sizing being different for kids, men and women's! Make sure you have free returns or go to a shop. There are some outlet shops.

Usually Arizona. I have an Eva pair for around the house too and they go on my feet as I get out of bed. Never walk barefoot.

I found that KT taping following a physio's instruction on YouTube helped a bit when it was at it's worst, as did massaging a pressure point on my calf (which was excruciatingly painful!).

I used to wear Converse a lot but now I only wear trainers with an arch support insole.

It took at least 6 months to resolve.
