Which everyday shoes for plantar fasciitis?

dearydeary · 06/06/2025 11:07

Hi

I am currently suffering from this and have seen a podiatrist.

Usually I wear Birkenstocks (gizeh, mayari, arizona) and converse.

I think the converse triggered this and need an alternative.

I am a size 42 if that helps!

Thanks in advance

Hoka Challenger are brilliant

Arran2024 · 07/06/2025 13:44

I honestly think you need to try stuff on. Those of us with foot problems tend to have a cupboard full of unsuitable shoes and when you find something that works it's like finding the holy grail! What works for one person won't work for someone else. Budget matters too.

I recently started getting PF. I think it was from trying to do the running man!
I’m clearly too old for this stuff.

I have seen anyone about it but I have all the symptoms. Is it an age thing? Is it curable? I always thought it was an injury but I had no idea so many people suffered with it.

All my shoes are flat. I thought that flat shoes are good shoes!

It’s an injury due to small tears in the fascia which is why time is a factor in healing.

Thanks Snackpocket

Which New Balance?

I got ones called fresh foam X Evoz.

I have PF at the moment as well. I bought the hoka gaviata 5's and the hoka Clifton 10's and they are really good.

Some Skechers are good but you need trainers where the sole can't be easily bent and look for a good heel to toe drop.

Make sure you never walk anywhere barefoot. I wear Birkenstock sliders instead of slippers.

I keep a frozen bottle of water to roll my foot on and do heel dips on the edge of a step (the stairs is fine). I had it before about 11 years ago and didn't do any of this and it took a year to go away.

Mind seems to get better (if I don’t walk much) and keeps being triggered again. Is this normal?

I am now wearing Hoka arahi (bought it in running shop with advice) but if I go out it gets worse!

I work from home and wear Birkenstocks slippers which have helped.

Will it ever get better?!?!?

Ecco, Haflinger, Sketchers

clarrylove · 20/06/2025 11:14

I'm suffering too. It's depressing. Everyone wearing pretty sandals and flat flip flops and I am wearing ugly trainers. However I hit the charity shop jackpot yesterday and bought a new pair of nude, cushioned, lightweight leather trainers for £8. They are from Hotter (I know!) but actually I think they look ok and I can walk in them so I am happy.

BerfyTigot · 20/06/2025 11:38

I saw a consultant or PF about 15 years ago who suggested to wear crocs around the house and never ever go barefoot.

I don't get it now, but then I don't walk much these days.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 20/06/2025 12:52

Another vote for Brooks but they are running trainers so can't wear them everything. I have off the shelf orthotics in them. I now wear white fit flop trainers to the office which do the job but still very achey by the end of the day and can't take orthotics. Vionic were too wide for my feet and not enough arch support.

I also use fit flop slippers and now fitflop sliders. The latter are working better I think albeit this is just around the house while WFH.

I agree with the six month timeframe. (At least, sorry.). Once I figured out what caused it in the first place—flat ballerinas at work on a very hard concrete floor, I have managed to avoid a recurrence.

Possiblyfamous · 20/06/2025 17:07

Maybe try walking around for ten minutes each evening with toe separators - quickly cured my PF and helped others too!

Oh most important to wear inserts (in shoes). Shows themselves are not enough.

100% this.
Any shoes u like as long as u put the inserts in.

dearydeary · 20/06/2025 17:39

I think mine was caused by converse ☹️

Converse definitely an absolute no no! Birkies are good for me, also wear Haflinger cork soled felt slippers indoors which are similar to Birkies.

Also try massaging the soles of your feet by rolling them on a tennis ball or small Pilates massage ball. That helps me if I have any twinges.

Thank you 😊

I used to hate those yoga balls, now I love them 😂
