Flu

DH and I have succumbed to the flu that's been going around and feel absolutely awful. Started with body aches, sweating/chills and headache. I was also vomiting and barely able to even keep water down. Doing a little better today though.

We've cancelled our Christmas plans to see family but I'm wondering by what day you started to feel better. Tomorrow is day 3/4 and, with young DC, I'd love some reassurance that tomorrow won't be completely rubbish. Feeling very sad that Christmas is spoilt when it's my favourite time of year.

I'm just starting to feel better after about 3 weeks, still coughing a lot but my energy is coming back and I'm not aching all over anymore. DS6 has it and his eyes are bloodshot from coughing so hard. Thankfully DD3 just has a mild cough

Everyone is different, some people get taken down for weeks, others only a few days. Keep taking paracetamol and lots of fluids, electrolyte drinks/powders helped me push through the worst of it

Foodiefool · 25/12/2024 19:50

I came down with it Friday night, been rotten all week, today I'm up but feeling really sick all day, hacking cough too. Feel terrible for ruining the kids Christmas!

CandiedPrincess · 25/12/2024 19:54

Took me until 9/10 days to feel healthier, but to be honest while I felt dreadful it was pretty much a case of business as usual. I did end up on antibiotics and steroids too.

RabbitsRock · 25/12/2024 19:55

I really need to book a flu jab. Hope everyone that’s poorly recovers soon 💐💐💐

bradypuss · 25/12/2024 20:06

I'm starting to get over the symptoms...apart from cough and fatigue and I'm on day 7.
It's a horror .

ConsternationStation · 25/12/2024 20:16

Well we struggled through and the kids still had a good Christmas so that's all that really matters. I could barely do anything for more than about 10 minutes at a time before I'd have to sit down for a considerable while. I do feel better from the first couple of days - the aches have gone which where absolutely hellish. I'm amazed by how exhausted I am and now I've also got a sore throat and loads of nasal congestion. The hacking cough and chest aches aren't fun either!

Hope everyone is feeling better soon and still managed to have some sort of nice Christmas.

Dh has just started shivering tonight. No other symptoms. I really hope it isn't flu?

Glad you managed to have some sort of Christmas @ConsternationStation .

Covidwoes · 27/12/2024 22:25

My friend, her DH and her DS have all just had this and had to cancel all Christmas plans. They started to feel better around day 8/9. We are lucky to have avoided it so far. Hope you all feel better soon.

coronafiona · 27/12/2024 22:35

Oh no. Day 4 here I was hoping I'd turn the corner tomorrow. It's absolutely horrible.

mirrormirror12 · 27/12/2024 22:46

Day 10 before I started to feel like I wasn't too ill to be out of bed for long. Day 13 today and it's just the cough and fatigue left. I've never had fatigue like it, struggled to walk from 1 room to another. Bit better now but still can't walk the dog or walk more than a minute or so.

mirrormirror12 · 27/12/2024 22:47

@LushLemonTart I'm sorry to say that's how mine started, shivering, freezing cold, chills, fever.
Oh and I missed my flu vaccine this year. Never again.

LushLemonTart · 27/12/2024 22:50

Dh is ok today. Hopefully it was a 24 hour thing? He won't have vaccines.
Only time I was really ill was the year I got a flu vaccine. Glad they work for you though.

I'm day 5 today and I feel so much better. Energy levels are still low but I'm able to do some things fairly normally - although laughing will send me into a coughing fit. Appetite is also super low which is the worst with all the delicious food at Christmas time!

How are you feeling OP? I think I'm on a similar time frame to you as started with symptoms 7 days ago. The aches and shakes are long gone. I have a nasty cough still and just feel out of it at the moment. I didn't have the sickness with mine but my appetite completely went, coming back now that I can smell and taste things properly again. It really is a horror this flu. I've never been so poorly in my life. The rest of the family had the vaccine and I definitely will have it next year! I've been feeling quite low today as well and just want to get my energy back.

slightlydistrac · 27/12/2024 23:04

I'm on day 8 and I feel worse today than I did yesterday.

Ugh.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 27/12/2024 23:09

Day 6 for me and I’ve been prescribed antibiotics and steroids. My chest is so painful when I breathe and cough and the phlegm that’s coming up is revolting.

my oxygen levels were low when then dr tested them. Low blood pressure, high temperature and heart rate too.

i’ve been vaccinated against flu and covid and have still succumbed, it’s shit.

ilovepixie · 27/12/2024 23:16

I'm on day 6 and still feel awful.
Shivers and then sweats. Thumping head. No energy and if I eat anything I get diarrhoea.

coronafiona · 28/12/2024 14:17

Omg. Today is no better this is horrible. Such a waste of annual leave too Angry

EmmaEmEmz · 28/12/2024 14:44

Im on day 12 and today I've felt like I've turned a corner.

First meal in 12 days, only threw up from coughing once and I've managed until now before needing a nap

getoutofmyhead · 28/12/2024 15:17

Im on day 8 and managed a walk outside. It’s been a rough ride and definitely the worst I ever got from miles. Only fatigue and cough are left with a bit of sickness. Appetite is not back yet. The most awful bit was days 3-5. What a Christmas!

Craftymam · 28/12/2024 15:25

Yep had it! Lasts for weeks.

If your lungs are clear and it's just the unproductive tickly cough then cocodomal is the way to go.

Had 15mg codeine prescribed by docs as a cough suppressant.

When I finished those went to 8/500 cocodomal OTC

mitogoshigg · 28/12/2024 15:27

Influenza would typically be 10 days to 2 weeks, but there's many other viruses out there (including Covid) with similar symptoms that last a shorter time so hopefully you have one of those instead.

Sprookjesbos · 28/12/2024 15:36

My DH is on day 11. I keep thinking he's turned a corner then he goes down again. He hasn't eaten at all today and is currently asleep.

Does anyone else feel emotionally low on it? He seems uncharacteristically depressed/ tearful.

My DD (9) was ill for 3 days (but had the nasal spray) and was similarly weepy.

I don't understand how I haven't caught it. Hope everyone feels better soon.

I remember one of my friends bursting into tears out of the blue, came down with flu the next day. Definitely a symptom for some.

Yes I'm feeling emotionally low at the moment with it.
