Hi can anyone give me any positive story's.
I had a cold 2 weeks ago which turned into more of a sinus cold a week later, was really phlemy. Now iv had a right blocked ear for thr last 12 days. Crackles when I eat or yawn or tilt my head back. Will this get better eventually? Driving me mad as everything sounds muffled and it's giving me anxiety all the time.

Oh I'm sorry, I've got no advice but i have the same thing. Only im only 4 days in. I'm struggling with everyday tasks with the kids around because my hearing is so disorientating.

Had some success with turmeric yesterday but must have been a coincidence because its not worked at all today.

garlicandsapphires · 24/11/2024 12:55

I also have a blocked ear. I/ you will probably need it syringing. I tried to do it myself but it didn’t work. Professional ear syringing all the way I’m afraid.

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 12:59

It's just horrible isn't it.
It's made me lose half a stone too as I have no appetite from my ear been blocked, no motivation to do anything. I have been using beconase, antihistamines, breathing over hot bowl of water. Nothing helps. Fed up and worried it will still be blocked over Christmas.

I had it microsuctioned a few days ago but they said my ears are clear, said it could be fluid in middle ear from a cold. Just really annoying. Making my life miserable at the minute.

I've had this before too and feel your pain ☹️ Try a hot shower (as hot as you can bear) and run the water just under your ear (not IN it though) where it goes down the side of your jaw/neck - can't remember where I read it but this worked for me after a couple of days, it's supposed to help blockages in the tubes that connect everything!

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 13:05

Ohh il definitely give that a go. Il try anything at this point lol.
Will it definitely go? Does it just need time?

Mine always do eventually but it can take a couple of weeks if it's been a bad cold/virus. I hate the little moments of it popping thinking 'oh my hearing is back' and then it's just back to being blocked again!

Ridingthegravytrain · 24/11/2024 13:11

The otovent balloons are good for clearing symptoms like you describe

stickybear · 24/11/2024 13:15

I had this in both ears for about six weeks over the summer, it was miserable. I was told it was eustachian tube dysfunction and sinusitis. Eventually I was prescribed a round of antibiotics which sorted the sinusitis and cleared it up. I feel your pain OP, it's not fun! Hope it clears up soon

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 13:16

@TorturedPoetDepartment
Yeh mine keeps crackling but no sign of sound as yet :(
Just feels kind of full and annoying.
Tickles every now and then if that makes sense.
I'm just finding it very difficult to deal with for some reason. Really taking out of me. My virus has just about gone too.

@stickybear
6 weeks.. I can't take another 6 hours..
When your hearing came back was it gradually or just popped back?
Thanks

My friend had this - got ear syringed
All fixed

@Kaylee19882024 I had this same thing a few weeks ago after a bad head cold. My ears and nose were blocked, both took a good 10 days to clear after I started to feel better from the cold symptoms. I drank loads of water (2l minimum) every day and think this did help a lot.

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 13:34

@MargaritaPracticallyCan
Thank you,
I really hope it doesn't take long.
Did yours gradually get better or just pop back?

I'm prone to the same issue. Some years ago, I was getting over a cold and still had blocked sinuses and fuzzy ears. I had an appointment with the osteopath for an issue with ny upper back and he did all the usual deep massage and manipulation. I set off home in the car and my blocked sinuses just drained. It was wonderful. I mentioned it the next time I went and he wasn't at all surprised as (I don't know the right names) the system is all connected and goes down your neck.

I'm not suggesting you go to the osteopath but you could see if anyone can give you a neck massage. Hot water from the shower on the back of your neck is also helpful - as is the steam.

@ForPearlViper
Thankyou,
I just need this positivety. Its mentally and physically draining me now. I can't believe how fluid in your ear can make you feel like this.
I'm not sleeping at night or anything.
I know everybody is different but it's nice to hear some good stories to keep me going lol hopefully it will clear up very soon.

Sterimar is good for cleaning out blocked sinuses.

Otex is good for ears.

I get bad cold regularly

BeachRide · 24/11/2024 13:57

Have you tried the valsalva manoeuvre? It always pops my ears clear. Take a deep breath, close your mouth, hold your nose and exhale. Instant relief.

Syringing won't have any effect on deafness caused by colds/sinusitis.

I have some sterima in the drawer, i have been using beconase, do you think sterimar would be better? Thank you

Have you tried the hot water thing? Soak a flannel in boiling/really hot water, squeeze it out and put in the bottom of a cup. Hold the cup over your ear (open side around your ear/against your head) and it relieves the pressure. Sometimes I just pour boiling water in the cup and tip it out again then do it, but the flannel keeps the heat in for longer.

Agree with this. I had a blocked ear a few months ago. Had my ear syringed twice. No wax. Did this and it cleared immediately.

Kaylee19882024 · 24/11/2024 14:47

@Ginisatonic
Thanks, I have already tryed this and it doesn't really do anything with the blocked ear, it just messes with the other one instead.

Sterimar is just salt water.

Beconase has drugs in as well so is probably better.

I would sit in a very hot bath that's got lots of eucalyptus oil in for a while. Listen to a book.
