For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I may regret out food choices today:

Mixed bean salad (pinto, kidney & garbanzo) with quinoa for lunch then, at DS's request, egg mayo sarnies for supper.

I fear his bottom may be worse than Franny's tomorrow.

lullabyloo · 01/05/2008 21:47

Boco ....you stole quote of the week from flat stanley !

Boco · 01/05/2008 21:50

What? Where?

UnderRated · 01/05/2008 21:52

I noticed that too.

berolina · 01/05/2008 21:53

Thinking of you, MrsC.

Boco - dh has had a skin biopsy, for a strange rash he gets on his hands every few years. He has a little (maybe 5mm long) scar on his hand from it, and said it was really fine. (Sadly they did not find a cause for the rash).

Boco · 01/05/2008 21:55

That's a shame Bero - does he still get it?
Really really hope they can work this out as it's very frustrating being itchy ALL the time. I can't imagine not having it now. Kind of wish it was the gross thing they thought as at least it would be cured now.

What quote of the week and where? I haven't said anything quote of the weekable and can't find it.

UnderRated · 01/05/2008 21:58

It's in the mumsnet news email - you were talking about reading ages

Boco · 01/05/2008 22:00

REally? I haven't had that. My chess-nuts boasting in an open foyer was much better.

UnderRated · 01/05/2008 22:02

Quote of the week

Boco ponders reading ages... "Is it normal for your reading age to fall drastically in later life? Mine was quite high, I was pushing a reading age of 45 a few years ago, but now I really struggle around the 23 mark."

How do you know your reading age?

lol @ chess-nuts

FrannyandZooey · 01/05/2008 22:03

LOL no I did like your reading age quote Boco
even if it didn't make me snort in the middle of the night a la Flat Stanley

berolina · 01/05/2008 22:03

I can't remember the last time he had it, Boco, neither can he - it used to turn up every couple of years, hang around for a week being slightly painful and looking a lot more alarming than it was, and then go.

ahundredtimes · 01/05/2008 22:05

I thought the chess nuts was funny too. And so was the reading age, but funnier perhaps in the context of the G&T thread?

Anyway, it was one of our own and we should be proud.

Good grief, I can't believe you are STILL itching. You should be given some MN award for being funny and nice and firing off emails to irresponsible lobby groups whilst itching.

Franny probably knows about it. I expect she was awarded one for being funny and nice whilst making up wnacky baskets or something.

TooTicky · 01/05/2008 22:08

MrsC, I am worrying that you didn't read my post about poo. Or was it just too graphic?

ahundredtimes · 01/05/2008 22:09

TooT - she has information on constipation coming out her ears. IYSWIM. I'm sure she read, and noted.

How are things with you? Is ds1 ok?

FrannyandZooey · 01/05/2008 22:10

yes Boco I would make you a Motivational Poster if I could word it right about the itching
I may try tomorrow

meanwhile I would love to go down in history as the inventor of wnaky baskets but sad to say it is not so

OP posts:
TooTicky · 01/05/2008 22:10

I was advising pre-emptive pooing but possibly that is obvious.

TooTicky · 01/05/2008 22:12

Ds1 okay today, yes.

We have a RULE. Any hitting/kicking/hurting, provoked or not, incurs a loss of £1 from monthly money. Should anybody lose all their monthly money and keep hitting, they then lose screens for a day.
Enforced as of this morning and no incidents today

ahundredtimes · 01/05/2008 22:16

Oh well done TooT. A family rule. I love a family rule almost as much as I love a list. And our family rule is about hitting and kicking too.

That's good isn't it? I think the best thing about a Rule, is that it gives you something to say, something neutral rather than 'GRRRR, YOU XXXX gnngngngn' type thing.

ahundredtimes · 01/05/2008 22:18

And are you going to talk to the teacher too?

Sorry. You don't actually have to discuss this with me.

Where's UR? Did the elevator man just disappear?

Boco · 01/05/2008 22:19

That sounds good Toot, I hope it keeps working - it's a good idea.

I am extremely excited by the prospect of a motivational poster.

Yes that reading age thing only really worked in context of that thread didn't it.

ahundredtimes · 01/05/2008 22:21

No, no [comforting] not at all. It didn't make you look like a senile 45 y-o or anything, oh no, not like a person who asks extraordinarily silly questions, no, no.

Nah. It was good. You did good.

TooTicky · 01/05/2008 22:21

I want to talk to the teacher but I don't know quite what to say that I haven't said before. I'm not sure I should mention the fact that I had to restrain him from the knives.

Boco · 01/05/2008 22:23

I liked making up suffolk insults best. I wish suffolk people really used them. Maybe they did in 1928 suffolk.

UnderRated · 01/05/2008 22:23

Glad the rule worked today. I'm a list & rule lady

Yes, elevator man seems to have disappeared

TooTicky · 01/05/2008 22:25

I must practise listing and ruling. I make lists and lose them, and deliberate for ages over quite which rules to make and how to word them.
