For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Oh dear the chickpea thing was VILE. Proper gross. dd2 actually cried, and then gagged. I didn't blame her, and didn't even insist she ate it. I followed the recipe exactly, but it was just not tasty at all. I've liked all the other things I've done from that book. Won't make that again. Luckily the mango for pudding was not cunting.

FrayedKnot · 30/04/2008 20:51

Oh dear Boco

I've only ever made his pizza

I love looking at the pictures in recipe books but hardly ever actually make anything from them exactly.

MrsC - you are brilliant. Oh, and I suddenly thought today, while I was doing the washing-up (this is when I do most of my thinking) that I must tell you to poo. You must poo beforehand because straining soon afterwards is not good, you have to get to the really desperate stage so that it just sort of falls out, but even this you don'tt want to be bothered with straight away. And drinking lots afterwards and eating non-constipatey foods. And have some handy pieces of decent food with you in case they only offer you white toast and spaghetti hoops.

Zippi - sorry you had a rotten time at college today. What you said about knowing you were behind and needed help but Not Saying struck such a chord, I have been there.

Lully - hope you feel better soon!

TooTicky · 30/04/2008 22:24

Avi - good news about HE ;lady - hiope she is nice.

UR - hope you manage to sort out your men.

FK - is it not a public park? Can they close it to the public at any time? Hope you get to go.

Ds1 was actually suicidal this evening, although I think it was all exacerbated by cherryade which dd1 bought and shared out. Ds1 had rather a lot. I am trying to be sort of liberal and not restrict their spending and allow them to buy some shite because if I ban it they will just want it more, yes? And everybody has a phase of buying shite. I know I did. But this cherryade really was foul and full of hideous things and if, as I suspect, it put him on such a low, it must be banned. It's very worrying.

We did talk about it a bit when he'd calmed down, and he sort of agreed. He is such a stressed and emotional person though, and a non-talker most of the time. He really needs to chill out somehow. Some kind of funky yoga to appeal to young boys might be good.

FrayedKnot · 30/04/2008 22:54

I was thinking about this kind of thing today, TooT.

I wonder if there is an age when you realize things are crap for you?

Judging by many adults (me included until recently) I suspect not

But as you say, isn;t banning something just going to make you want it more?

It's like smoking, you have the cross section of a lung pictures in science lessons and all the waffle, and then you go and do it anyway

I haven't heard of yogabugs. He wouldn't do anything that could be construed as remotely babyish though.

I think you just have to learn through experience. I have a hopeful sort of confidence that if a child has a healthy start, they will return to it.

In hospital, dd2 tried spaghetti hoops and found them curious but not delicious. Ds2 refused to try them [proud]

zippitippitoes · 30/04/2008 23:00

once he got to a teenager

tho he is noit normal and im sure your ds is

TooTicky · 30/04/2008 23:01

If you HE and mix with likeminded types he may well stay that way Avi. That is a big drawback of scghool. In particular, Other People's Packed Lunches.

Zippi, was he nicely odd as well as difficult odd? Ds1 is delightful when he is delightful, iyswim.

I must remember not to burn the knickers.

Ooh, there is a teacher not too terribly far away - no classes at present but worth enquiring. Thanks Avi
