Is there a strange virus going around?

This is a really odd one!
started on Friday with a very sudden sore throat. Low grade fever overnight, woke to awful muscle pains, neck ache and a general feeling of low level unwell.
Saturday felt off with a running nose and aches and pains. Kept feeling warm and waves of nausea. Overnight into Sunday stomach pains started with diarrhoea and nausea, snotty nose, shivery, headache.
Symptoms are coming and going, feel a bit better one minute then headachey and off the next. Every time I eat I get stomach cramps and loose stool. Not positive for Covid (old tests tho).

It’s the stomach issues that are unusual, it’s like a low level flu bug but with a bad stomach too.

Anyone else have this?

Oh poor you. I had the same feeling this morning ‘is this my life now?’

I would just like to see some improvement. The only good thing is I haven’t had a cry this morning (yet!).

It sounds like you may have had 2 things back to back?

Maybe. A little cry actually sounds good. I can’t even drink tea & I usually love my tea.

I have new neighbours who have been drilling & hammering 6 until 6.

I hope you wake up tomorrow feeling rested & starving.

Delatron · 28/11/2024 09:06

@VaddaABeetch It does make you feel better - a little cry. Neighbour sounds a nightmare!
I hope you can get some rest.

My friends are here - thank god I’m not the only one with this poxy thing. Me, dd, dm, dp all been sick for weeks and weeks now. I can’t even tell you the symptoms cause they are so vast. Also -ve for Covid all round. I don’t know if it’s the same thing or one after another (dd had HFM - few weeks back and I had ulcers in my tonsils) but many a tear has been shed.

Delatron · 28/11/2024 11:24

It’s the length of time that it goes on for that is so distressing!

It also messes with your mind - I’ve thought I was better so many times, only to go downhill again/get worse. It’s like my body doesn’t know how to get rid of it. I thought I had a good immune system- I’ve not been ill for a year. But this has been never ending!

I’ve found it’s actually messed with my head in a literal sense as well. Feel panicky, weird, itchy and restless cause the symptoms seem so odd. That’s abated a bit now but my DM said the same. I said it feels like I’m walking on my skeleton (which I am, as is everyone - but for some reason it seemed to be a good description 😂). You’ve done very well not to get sick for a year (I’m what seems like every other week at the moment with a 3yo) so it just shows even those with the strongest immune systems are struggling! What symptoms you got?

Delatron · 28/11/2024 11:55

@Cloxs Started quite some time ago with sore throat, muscle pain and mass fatigue. Some stomach pain. Then progressed to chest pain after 2 weeks. The intense fatigue has stayed, chest pain easing off.

To be honest be felt worse with the flu but that was over and done with in 2 weeks. I don’t think I’ve ever been ill for a month before!

Lockdownbaby2021 · 28/11/2024 15:11

I’ve just posted a similar thread
started Saturday night with sudden nausea, then vomited all night and had stomach cramps. Felt rough Sunday. Then Monday I felt loads better, just wishy washy, ate, went out etc. then Monday night it hit me again, felt so sick, stomach pains etc. ran through till Tuesday. Then yesterday felt better again, and then through the night last night felt like I was going to be sick, and felt awful and nauseous again today. I’ve barely eaten since Saturday! It’s really stop start! Just want to feel human again!

Orangeyish · 28/11/2024 21:53

I have had a horrible something for more than 2 weeks now… currently in the chesty cough phase with crackling in my lungs and horrendous chest pain on one side… how long did everyone’s chest pain last for? Paracetamol or ibuprofen doesn’t seem to help at all…

Orangeyish · 28/11/2024 21:54

And I thought I had a fairly robust immune system too! Sympathies with everyone just wanting to feel normal again, I feel exactly the same….

Cloxs · 29/11/2024 10:29

Is anyone else like crazy exhausted? Shaky muscles etc - only on second day of less viral symptoms but the exhasution is scary.

Oh, yes, I was. I'm slowly recovering. Week 4, am getting back to normal. But it's been very debilitating.

Yes that’s been my main symptom. I’m finally feeling like myself 4 weeks later. I have never been ill for this long!

Plusplus2 · 29/11/2024 12:42

Has anyone had severe stomach pain with this virus? Started with a sore throat, then a cold, followed by loss of taste. Then suddenly an excruciating stomach ache that left me in tears.

Lockdownbaby2021 · 29/11/2024 12:50

@Plusplus2 mine started with sickness and then stomach pains. It’s been really on and off, day 6 now and last night was the worst I’ve had the stomach pains! 4 hrs of awful gripey pains

Yes, I keep randomly falling asleep. I’m on day 7.

Gfozzy · 29/11/2024 14:54

Day 8 and felt better ish yesterday but today gruelling fatigue strikes again! I have barely been out the house since Friday last week. Slight body aches but mainly just my body feels so heavy and I’m exhausted. Weird full feeling in my head and poppy ears.
today’s new symptom is heavy chest! Not liking the 4 weeks to get better 😭

Delatron · 29/11/2024 15:07

I developed a heavy chest about 10
days in. It really is the strangest virus. Also the getting better then getting worse.

Talkabtit101 · 29/11/2024 17:31

Day 25 here. - I'm exhausted, still lack of appetite, I've lost a lot of weight, no motivation and doing the smallest of tasks feels like running a marathon, I'm spending my days crying to myself because of how drained I feel.

I'm 24 years old.

Cloxs · 29/11/2024 17:50

@Talkabtit101 thats how I feel! I just went to the corner shop (in the car) and genuinely didn’t think I would make the walk from the car into the shop. I’m so many weeks in (although only 2 days out of not feeling actively poorly). Someone I know said they literally couldn’t get out the bath cause they lost so much strength. Is no one positive for covid? I know other viruses are available it’s just I wonder what this was. Brutality. @Gfozzy same - today first day in a week and it was literally driving to get one thing from local shop and now I’m exhausted. I did manage to do a bit of cleaning yesterday but I’m not sure I’ve felt like this before! Trying not to panic but it’s hard.

Delatron · 29/11/2024 19:00

I wish I’d done a Covid test but I think I left it too late. I spoke to the doctor and they said this particular strain of Covid is really dragging on and causing a lot of fatigue for people.

It felt like Covid to me due to its weird nature and the inflammation it caused - the ear/ my chest. But I didn’t have the mucus. Just the intense fatigue and chest pain. The pain could well have been inflammation.

Delatron · 29/11/2024 19:02

I have done a lot of crying too. Just the sheer upset of waking up and not feeling better week after week. With seemingly nothing you can do to make it go away.

Gfozzy · 29/11/2024 21:41

It’s felt exactly like Covid/flu for me. The distinctive dry illness and prolonged fatigue and general malaise.
but all tests negative. Even tested today to be sure and I was Covid and flu a/b negative.

it must just be some hell of a bug! Cannot believe how much it’s dragging down the old and the young. I’m only 36 but underlying health conditions and I thought that was why…. Have to say green tea with organic honey and lemon has been a life saver and echinacea is something I also believe in

Thegrassroots26 · 30/11/2024 13:08

I have this and it is so grim. There are 90 year olds with more energy than me. I feel like a useless vegetable frankly and I would sooner not wake up than live like this…
SO so fed up. I’ve had the burst of feeling normal for a few hours, then back to this again. It’s an absolute joke when you have kids. Who has time to be this unwell…?

I felt weirdly itchy too and the mental symptoms you describe, along with shaking, dizziness, nausea. I mean everything going really.

Anyone put the other side who can offer some hope of when it improves. Day 14 here.

ArabellaScott · 30/11/2024 16:19

4 weeks roughly now, and I am feeling almost myself again. Appetite is mostly back.

So - about 2/3 weeks of being actually ill, feverish, shaky, unable to eat, etc. And a week or two of recovery.
