For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

I think I will try to go to the gym
will someone give me a small, kind, boot up the bum?
oh actually not the bum
pinch my toes or something

UnderRated · 24/04/2008 19:03

I make those muffins, FK. They're yummy.

Thanks for help on other thread. I feel a little more sane now

UnderRated · 24/04/2008 19:04

FK, does it really work?

FrayedKnot · 24/04/2008 19:38

Apparently so

There are various similar systems

It's how packhouses test their fruit so they can pack it as ripe and ready and so on

All to fuel the marketing campaigns of the supermarkets

I read that book "Why French women don;t get Fat" or whatever it is called, and there was a bit in it about how market stall holders would ask their customers when they needed the fruit for and would then pick them out the right piece of fruit (her example was a melon) so it would be perfectly ripe for the time they needed it to be

And we have to go and invent a machine to do the same thing [sigh]

Go Franny, btw

Not read thread and going out in a sec but just wanted to say something MrsC. Sorry if this isn't an appropriate time but I get all practical when things like this happen and I just wanted to say:

If you have a mortgage and accociated life and/or critical illness insurance it might pay out for a cancer diagnosis. When we got ours a few years ago I noticed that it was included. I don't know if it's standard but it was around the time my mum had her cancer so I noticed.

Anyway. That was it. Just thought you could check it out.

Hi everyone! See you soon but got my mum staying for the weekend so probably won't be on much.

By the way - did I see you've got your Mojo back Francis??!! Welcome back!

Oh and MrsC have you got Nigella Lawson's Feast book? I think of you when I read it. If you don't totally dislike her I think you might like it x

Oh what's wrong everybody?

berolina · 24/04/2008 20:34

zippi

Big fat total of 2 so far today (2 courgettes and no banana ) but am still recovering from tummy upset really.

Nice to hear you sounding more upbeat, Franny. Although I currently feel very hermit-like, meet-up sounds lovely

Off for a bath.

(Said I wouldn't be talkative )

TooTicky · 24/04/2008 20:48

Ds2 has an abrasion on his cornea and I had to take him to Bath hospital. I had never driven in Bath before and it was every bit as bad as I thought it would be. Thankfully ds2 okay, can now open eye and not in so much pain.
