Summer virus doing the rounds??

Hi all, I’ve been sick for the past week and annoyingly I just moved house as well… so perfect timing!

anyway, I’ve taken two COVID tests and while both have been negative, it really feels COVID like. I have body aches, chills, an extremely sore throat that feels like a lump, lost my voice, and a terrible cough, not only that but the tiredness is INSANE. I cannot stop sleeping.

has anyone else experienced or experiencing similar?

my partner and I feel like it could be a strain of COVID…. As we have both had it in the past and this feels similar due to how it wipes you out, but it could just be a nasty virus that’s circulating atm. I just can’t believe how tired and fatigued I am, I’m completely wiped.

Never had Covid but have some bug with a sore throat at the moment. Weirdly I also have a really sore tongue.

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 01/07/2024 19:15

There's a big covid wave underway.

UK surveillance is pretty shite, but it can be seen in other countries and from wastewater sampling.

LFTs are less and less reliable, as they haven't been updated AFAIK for newer strains. A positive is definitely positive, but a negative cannot be relied upon.

That’s exactly what I think too - I’m wondering how reliable a LFT is.

I’ve had similar symptoms since Saturday but only just got a positive Covid test today

theeyeofdoe · 02/07/2024 20:33

We have that summer cough/cold things AND covid in the house at the moment. Covid makes you look a bit blotchy/grey in the face and feel unwell. The summery cold thing just makes you be snotty and cough.
DH and I had covid earlier this year and I was briefly unwell, he was really poorly for almost a month!
DS2 had the summer cough thing.

We tend to have tests in the house (for both flu and covid) as I'm an optometrist and breathe on people a lot, who are often elderly...

theeyeofdoe · 02/07/2024 20:34

Oh @RichTea90 covid test came up immediately for the Covidy ones.

kirinm · 02/07/2024 20:35

Two suspected Covid cases in my house this week. Temperatures / sore throat and cold symptoms.

Ilikewinter · 02/07/2024 20:41

Yes I have this, started last Thursday, I thought it was a bad dose of hayfever but have got progressively worse. Headache/ night sweats/ earache/ sore throat / congestion and a cracking unproductive cough that sounds like I smoke 40 a day. I'm surviving on about 3 hours sleep .... shattered.
No idea if it's Covid or just a cold

Emeraldpies · 02/07/2024 20:43

@Ilikewinter That's exactly how I felt last week. I also thought it was very bad hayfever but did a covid test and it was positive.

SpanielintheWorks · 02/07/2024 20:46

Had exactly those symptoms plus stonking earache, RichTea. I'm six weeks in and perking up a bit finally. Sympathy to all those affected!

Well if it is COVID then it's finally got me...I did well to escape it for the last 4 years!

6 weeks 😮 oh wow ! Hope you feel better soon

viccat · 02/07/2024 21:20

I'm just slowly recovering from this, it's day 12 since symptoms started. I already had Covid in May and tested negative this time so pretty sure it's not Covid.

Sore throat, fever (38.6C at its highest), fatigue, then a horrible dry cough that causes coughing fits multiple times a day. Feeling generally unwell. Not much congestion or snotty nose.

Same. Has Covid 2.5 weeks ago, finally recovered and a few days later came down with cough/chest infection. Been a week and now have green phlegm coming up, so I'm thinking it's coming to an end. Back to back illness in June/July is crazy.

Been trying to get in the sun everyday for the additional vitamin D. Given winter virus' don't give us that luxury.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 02/07/2024 21:26

We brought what we think was Covid back from Majorca with us. It was like a 48 hour awful stomach bug (worse than one I got in Egypt) combined with flu and an awful sore throat. Two out of four of us had the cold first and two out of four of us had the atomach bug first, but we were all very poorly.

DeeCeeCherry · 02/07/2024 21:34

Same. It only lasted 3 days tho but the flu symptoms and bone-numbing tiredness was awful. I do think it was COVID and family members now have it too

Looolaaa · 02/07/2024 21:34

Whooping cough?

motherofkevinnotperry · 02/07/2024 21:44

We've got it whatever it is. Very sore throat, very sore eyes, heavy head cold which meds aren't easing. Cough and tight chest. Extremely tired and upset stomach. I think it's COVID. I've had COVID loads and it would surprise me if this isn't it.

confessionsfromadreamer · 02/07/2024 21:48

Looolaaa · 02/07/2024 21:34

Whooping cough?

Not here as I'm 7 months pregnant and had whooping cough vaccine. Just Covid, the cough virus/chest infection straight after and a toddler and full time job... melting face.

That’s good it’s not WC!

Anyone else with a cough and sore head it would be worth being tested as WC is rife atm and not as ‘whoopy’ as you might think.

sarahc336 · 02/07/2024 22:12

We have it in our house at the min. The kids seem to have upset tummies with it too 🙄

Whatdoido123456 · 02/07/2024 22:15

It’s definitely Covid. I had it 2 weeks ago…awful.

NDmumoftwo · 02/07/2024 22:17

Ugh I'm down with this at the mo, it's brutal

Glamorous24 · 02/07/2024 22:23

I’ve had exactly all those symptoms OP.
I’m 8 days since symptoms started and still feeling pretty wiped out energy wise but getting better.

feel it must have been Covid but not showing on tests.

Snippit · 02/07/2024 22:29

I’ve had this god awful bug for 8 weeks now. My husband tested positive for Covid but I didn’t. His test was positive within seconds, mine took a few minutes, but negative. Mr Dr said I could be positive even though I tested negative, I really don’t understand that theory. I’m sooo tired, my throat is still raw with a thickly cough mainly in the night.

Saw another Dr last week who had Covid with the exact same experience. Worst sore throat ever, even when I had tonsillitis as a kid I could eat crisps, I struggled to swallow water with this and completely off food.

Hey ho, off to Portugal in the morning, hopefully the rest and sunshine will work wonders, or, I pick something new up and bring that back with me 😵‍💫. I’m tempted to wear a mask on the plane just to be safe.
