Summer virus doing the rounds??

Hi all, I’ve been sick for the past week and annoyingly I just moved house as well… so perfect timing!

anyway, I’ve taken two COVID tests and while both have been negative, it really feels COVID like. I have body aches, chills, an extremely sore throat that feels like a lump, lost my voice, and a terrible cough, not only that but the tiredness is INSANE. I cannot stop sleeping.

has anyone else experienced or experiencing similar?

my partner and I feel like it could be a strain of COVID…. As we have both had it in the past and this feels similar due to how it wipes you out, but it could just be a nasty virus that’s circulating atm. I just can’t believe how tired and fatigued I am, I’m completely wiped.

Had suspected COVID the week before last, only just recovered at the weekend and then woke up with another bloody virus this morning. Can't effing believe it!

I’ve had exactly all those symptoms OP.
I’m 8 days since symptoms started and still feeling pretty wiped out energy wise but getting better.

feel it must have been Covid but not showing on tests.

See, I feel this way too. I’m surprised I haven’t tested positive. I think it’s another variant that’s not detected on the tests, either that or some other horrendous virus that’s doing the rounds!

my throat has never been THIS sore, and for THIS long! I’m on day 7 now. I’ve had to take this week off so far as I do a lot of talking in my job and my voice has been reduced to a croaky whisper.

the fatigue is crazy too, I’ve been sleeping so much, like multiple naps a day. I’ve not known a cold like this. No temperature though.

Bless you. I was ill with flu back in May as well so I feel your pain. Get better soon!

Had exactly those symptoms plus stonking earache, RichTea. I'm six weeks in and perking up a bit finally. Sympathy to all those affected!

Blimey - load up on vitamin C & D I say. Support your immune system.

I had Covid a month ago and felt terrible. First time I have had it.

I have had this whatever it is for a week now and it's not coming up positive on a Covid test.

Cough, no sense of smell or taste, feel exhausted and a bit sick at times. Started with a sore throat. My whole body has been aching and I have been sleeping a lot more. It's shit.

Somerandomgirl · 03/07/2024 11:05

No idea what it is, dont have any tests to check..but lower back is killing me, legs, ribs, head... shoot me 😣

Carylon15 · 03/07/2024 11:19

Had what felt like a mini flu last week. Sore throat, temp etc. Negative test. There’s lots of it here at the moment.

Painauraison · 03/07/2024 11:21

We've just had this and it's been one of us in the house since mid may, just seems to have gone this week. All of us had it. I was so bad with the cough I had coughing fits and couldn't breathe, I was basically incontinent for a week because the cough was that violent, the headaches was awful for 10 days and no appetite, no energy. Also negative test but I'm sure it was some sort of covid!

Berga · 03/07/2024 11:23

viccat · 02/07/2024 21:20

I'm just slowly recovering from this, it's day 12 since symptoms started. I already had Covid in May and tested negative this time so pretty sure it's not Covid.

Sore throat, fever (38.6C at its highest), fatigue, then a horrible dry cough that causes coughing fits multiple times a day. Feeling generally unwell. Not much congestion or snotty nose.

This sounds like whooping cough

Yeah that’s on the increase too…

I had my third dose of covid in May and it was the first time I had a sore throat with it. Very sneezy as well but test came up positive on day1. I had some very old tests that were out of date but this was a new flowflex test. I get covid treatment so I generally test at the first hint.
@theeyeofdoe where do you get your flu tests?

Ilikewinter · 03/07/2024 11:42

RichTea90 · 03/07/2024 11:34

Yeah that’s on the increase too…

Funnily enough, 2 people have just come back to work after being diagnosed with whooping cough. I had heard the increase in kids with it so suppose it's natural that adults would also start to catch it. They were both very poorly.

Got really sore throat, sore glands under my chin, temp is up and down and keep getting waves of nausea… nhs111 clinician said it was a viral infection, and just to rest, paracetamol etc. Also weirdly my teeth are all sore🤷‍♀️ Feel generally yuk. A lot of folk with similar apparently

Yep this was exactly my experience… such a sore, sore throat, with swollen glands, and have a ghastly cough now. Body aches, chills, fatigue, tiredness and feeling just generally out of it. Throat only just seems to be getting better now. I hope you recover soon!

I just googled this! Had no idea but it does sound like it. I didn't know adults could get that. It was awful!

viccat · 03/07/2024 14:12

To those saying it's whooping cough, from what I've read that involves coughing up thick, clear mucus so is easy to tell apart from other viruses?

I would say I was it was very minimal. Not every cough and not enough that I’d have even listed it as a symptom.

Not directed at PP I’m replying to but I think anyone suffering from a cough right now would be remiss not to consider it to be WC and watch contact with vulnerable people.

I didn’t realise it was a reportable illness (not the technical term I don’t think!)

Vaccination only lasts 10 years. I think Dd had it when we went away just before Christmas but it wasn't even in the news back then. Every now and then the cough seems to come back for a few days even now.

confessionsfromadreamer · 04/07/2024 09:58

I have a cough right now but it's not whooping cough as I had the vaccine 2 months ago due to being pregnant. There is just a bad cough / chest infection going around.

RichTea90 · 06/07/2024 18:36

My symptoms have come back with a vengeance today… now including nausea and vomitting, yay. This is definitely feeling like when I had COVID a couple years ago 😭

Anyone got a permanent headache with the virus symptoms? I'm sleeping loads, generally achey, low grade chills and trouble getting warm, awful sneezing and runny nose which went on for about 10 days but seems a bit better now, and this horrible right-sided headache with sinus and orofacial pain on that side too. Oh, and the roof of my mouth feels tender and burny 🙄 Appetite's a bit low too, but no major stomach problems.

Sorry to hear that most of you are having such a horrible time. And OP, it has come back?! You must be well fed up!

Bless you, I didn’t have a headache but I did have a bit of sinus pain and tenderness around my eye area…

yes I am super fed up, honestly. This is the worst summer in a long while, esp with the crap weather! I wonder if that’s to blame for all these bugs and viruses going around! I’m feeling much better today, so I think it’s finally leaving my system whatever it was.

hope you feel better soon!

My headache was awful with WC. Just constantly there no matter what I took for it.

Choccymumma · 08/07/2024 22:26

I started a thread like this called virus lingering a few weeks ago as I've been the same. Flu/covis who knows. Negative on LFT. I thought I'd started feeling brighter but week 5 and the symptoms are kicking the you know what out of me. The fatigue and weakness is something else.
