Summer virus doing the rounds??

Hi all, I’ve been sick for the past week and annoyingly I just moved house as well… so perfect timing!

anyway, I’ve taken two COVID tests and while both have been negative, it really feels COVID like. I have body aches, chills, an extremely sore throat that feels like a lump, lost my voice, and a terrible cough, not only that but the tiredness is INSANE. I cannot stop sleeping.

has anyone else experienced or experiencing similar?

my partner and I feel like it could be a strain of COVID…. As we have both had it in the past and this feels similar due to how it wipes you out, but it could just be a nasty virus that’s circulating atm. I just can’t believe how tired and fatigued I am, I’m completely wiped.

Hi @RichTea90 just wondering how you’re doing now?

My whole household has this awful is it Covid is it not Covid? Virus atm. My eldest brought it home from school with him last Wednesday and we all just caught it one after the other, I’d go as far as to say I’ve never actually been this poorly in my whole life.

I have done 5 Covid tests and all negative. But it feels very much like Covid and can’t be anything else surely. We’ve all had temperatures, achy bodies and I’m talking like I’ve been in tears the aches have been that bad, struggled to walk or stretch out my legs without yelping in agony. Headaches, horrific cough, all at least vomited twice, no appetite whatsoever, blocked/runny nose and then there’s the sheer exhaustion. My 18 month old spent the best part of 22 hours asleep on Wednesday and this was on day 6 of the illness for him.

Right now we are all just a bit miserable still, I mean are we better? Maybe by about 25%. But I can’t breathe through my nose still, coughing every 20-30 seconds, exhausted despite being unable to sleep at night because of that poorly congested feeling in your head you get when you lay flat it’s horrible. At this point I am wondering if we will honestly ever get better! 😭 My 18 month old is miserable, it’s so hard to see as he’s the most happiest little soul usually but he just wants nothing to do with anything or anyone.

Please tell me you feel better? 😩🤞🏻

Hello! I am so sorry to hear you aren’t well. I am wishing you and your family a very speedy recovery. ❤️‍🩹 It does sound like what I had. The fatigue and tiredness is just something else - like nothing I’ve experienced before. I also had nausea and vomitting. One day I couldn’t keep anything down. What persisted was a TERRIBLE sore throat & cough.

I am pleased to say, I am pleased to say I am feeling a whole lot better now. I went down with this on July 1st, so it’s taken a good 19-20 days to get to this stage for me. I am hoping it’s similar(if not quicker!) for all of you!

I am now back to exercising (ran 4km yesterday) and I feel more energised. My throat is still a wee bit sore, but much better on the whole. I’m going to take it easy and encourage myself to go for walks & eat healthy meals.

take care and keep us posted x

I’m in a similar boat - cough started intermittently and then turned into heavy productive coughing spasms, first coughing up green phlegm and then stringy white gunk, then coughing so hard I’m sick or wet myself. Sore hot dry throat, swollen gums, start coughing and end up gasping and struggling to breathe. I’m not exactly whooping but I’m frantically trying to breathe. I saw the minor ailments nurse and suggested whooping cough but she didn’t test me or take that idea seriously.

I’m on day 15.

This is whooping cough: it’s a nightmare getting anyone to test for it at the moment but your symptoms match exactly. I’m 2.5 months in and a lot better than I was but still coughing. Be prepared for the long haul.

Oh joy. Thanks @Disuf, better to know than not! Have lost sense of taste and smell but Covid test negative. Will try the doctor tomorrow again and ask specifically to be tested for whooping cough. I need to know because I’m not fit to be in the office - I can wfh without difficulty but I’ve not been in the building for a fortnight and it would be good to be able to explain if it drags on for weeks.

you need to have had it for 2-3 weeks or more for the blood test to show it up, so don’t ask for one yet if you haven’t had it that long. And be aware that it can take over a month to get the lab result back. It’s a nuisance but getting it properly diagnosed will help you if your workplace are difficult about you being off sick - you can show them the result in the future when it comes through and relate it to the time you’ve been off sick. Take as long as you need off - it’s nasty and very infectious for 3 weeks. I was off for a month and could have done with another week or two off if I’m honest.

Are you feeling grotty all the time? www.bbc.com/news/articles/cjm9gez8e8mo

I'm on day 6 and no sign of getting better.

Started with a migraine on weds last week and now I'm just so lethargic, muscles/joints in agony, fever, never thought I'd find myself shivering and wrapped up in blankets in 27 degrees weather. No cold symptoms aside from a very sore throat that comes and goes throughout the day, insomnia so struggling to sleep, strong sense of smell which is making me nauseous and lack appetite. Fainted 3x last night when I got up to put on a warmer top and then threw up, also feeling a bit like I've got vertigo like my eyes aren't matching up.
No idea if flu or COVID (COVID test was out of date but negative) or anything else!

All very bizarre and I'm feeling quite sorry for myself now.
