Ha ha whymummy, i remember doing that to dh quite a few times unfortunately despite the fact that he's a non-smoker, he used to go out and get me some out of pity!! i'm sure you'll have a roaring time, it's often the build up that's nerve-wracking and when the time comes you'll find yourself saying 'NO!' rather smugly

i agree with fee, i find that drinking at home is a completely different ball game. not that i've done anything else but drink at home for the last 3 yrs!!!

yes cc, i must be mad, my little terrors haven't put me off yet. we'll probably leave it till ds2's at least 2yrs old but i've got to say that after having 2 in such a short space of time it's often tempting to just quit whilst we're ahead i think i'm just having a strange emotional time which i've realised happens every 6 mths or so where i just feel tired, bored and overworked. i was a little teary on sat for about 10mins...got to find a way to get away from this cycle! am thinking of taking up yoga again in the hope that it will get me out for a break and make me feel healthier - plus my back is playing up lately and feels like it's about to break...

MOAN MOAN MOAN...SORRRRYYYY

anyhows, how are you all?

whymummy · 01/02/2005 22:58

hi minkmama
i really think you have to be in the right frame of mind,it's nt good trying if you're stressed out,i kept saying that once dd started full-time school i would quit, she started in january and i felt sad but sooooo relieved,i was walking 3 hours a day to and from school and i never had any time to myself,so the minute i was free i went for it.i'm not saying you should do the same but you do have to feel ready and i think yoga will give you that free time and make you feel more relax
good luck

minkmama · 01/02/2005 23:03

thanks whymummy, it really helps speaking to you guys, really gets my head in a more positive state!

how many children do you have? my boys are 2yrs 2mths and 9mths (through our own choice - how mad? ) oh and cc, dh's mum had 4 in 5 yrs so not dissimilar to that mum at your nursery!! my mother was clever and kept my sister and i 10yrs apart....

night night all xx

Willow2 · 02/02/2005 11:25

Well done everyone and just wanted to say that I'm still a non smoker - since November now.

minkmama · 02/02/2005 11:43

Wow, well done willow2

whymummy · 02/02/2005 13:23

hi everyone
well done willow!!!
minkmama i have 2 ds is 7 and dd 4 1/2 both at school now, hurrah!! are you going to try the yoga?i'm looking to do something as well, dancing probably, is the only sport i like although i wouldn't mind yoga or kick boxing, hmmm,i might go and see what's on offer during the day i need to lose the weight i'm putting on

charliecat · 02/02/2005 19:52

Hello folks...well done Willow!
Had a rattly day(??!!!!!!!) need to get some me time in place...wondering if a night round at the bosses place with lots of alcohol will do the trick...cant quite imagine being pissed with her around, but everyone assures me its fine. I have so far stayed sober and left early...to hear the tales later. This time im gonna join in!
They all smoke.....but ill be fine....cough spluttter...think ill be borrowing that plastic fag when you find it.
On the voddy again this evening from one addiction to another!

OP posts:
whymummy · 03/02/2005 09:46

morning everyone
charliecat you'll be fine, enjoy the party
yesterday was really good just a few mad moments where i could have had a smoke but they soon went, one thing is keeping me going is the thought of ending up with a voice like janice from coronation st. lol, weird but it works

charliecat · 03/02/2005 13:28

Well, dps grandads died and hes shot off to scotland to be with his mum. Im sitting in a room reeking of fag smoke. Am sure to be back later when the kids are in bed.

OP posts:
charliecat · 03/02/2005 13:30

Not My fag smoke by the way...dps obviously been smoking in here!

OP posts:
charliecat · 03/02/2005 20:04

OMG has eveyone vanished?

OP posts:
minkmama · 03/02/2005 23:37

oh i'm sorry to hear about dp's grandad cc is dp scottish then or does his mum just live up there? you used to live up that way didn't you?

how was the you-time? i could really do with some of that right now!

WM, i am being lazy and not looking into it properly but will do now as you have inspired me! you should do something too since your two are at school during the day ! do you enjoy aerobics or is it too much like 'work'? i guess that's the closest thing to dance. you could do those super moves in that 'VALERIEEEEEEE, CALLLL ME...' video . i tend to like two extremes, yoga and running but i think going down the relaxing route will be more beneficial for my head and back and i'm more likely to stick to it!!

fg goes running - how's your running thread going fg?

does anyone else watch desperate housewives? i am that mother with the boys! need to get hold of some ADD meds - quick!!

night night all xx

charliecat · 04/02/2005 09:56

LOL Mink at desperate housewifes....only watched one episode but shes still fresh in my mind
DPs family is confusing....he was adopted by some lovely folks in Ireland, so has Irish accent when in Ireland. He moved over to Scotland when he was 17 to stay with his real mum and she of course is in Scotland so he has a scottish accent too....thats where he is now.
I was born in England and speak English to English folks and Scottish to Scottish Folks.
My me time, my night out has been hindered by dp going away.....boss says I can drag the kids round with me and they can sit watching videos while we giggle hysterically in the next room...am going to do just that as I barely get out the house and being here instead of there would be pants. Fingers crossed the girls behave!
(Think itll be a bit bizarre seeing thier old/still teachers piddled...but im openminded about it, i think)
Im also hoping the kids will have a calming effect on everyone...and I will be back home tucked up in bed before people satrt drooling
Did any of you watcht he prog about adhd last night?
I get no pleasure from exercise at all myself. Im destined to be a frumpy couch/pc potatoe.

OP posts:
fionagib · 04/02/2005 13:41

sorry for long absense girls, and really sorry to hear your dp's sad news cc.

No, mink, haven't been running, haven't finished book - had a manic day in london yesterday for a work conference - left home 6 am home 11.30 pm, tried to edit book on paper on the plane and ended up so stressed and bloody crying. Came home and wailed some more. Deadline is breathing its horrible breath down my neck like a horrible dragon and I just can't see the wood for the trees. Feel so crap cos dh gave me thatweekend off to work in a hotel.

came home drank wine & howled some more. dh chain smoked, I had NONE (with cc's advice ringing loudly in my ears - 'Think how terrible you will feel in the morning'). You are a top girl cc even if you talk funny. I woud've cracked were it not for all the support & tips on this thread.

Big hugs to all, glad you're feeling more positive mm - c'mon, if we ever actually meet each other I do not want you puffing a ciggie!!!!

Sorry to be such an emotional wreck/whingey self obsessed old bag!

ps dh's birthday tomorrow, have bought him a telescope so he can make lotsa jokes about peering at your-anus

(How childish! - Ed)

whymummy · 04/02/2005 14:01

hi everyone!!
sorry about dp's grandad charliecat.
MM glad you're feeling possitive, about that video,LOL,dh wanted it for xmas,he's still waiting and fiona don't worry you will get there in the end with the book
where's fee?
i'm doing ok but when i used to read about people giving up they always said how their skin felt fantastic and how much energy they had,i feel and look like crap is it too early for me to feel the difference?
ps.cc hope you enjoy the party

charliecat · 04/02/2005 17:35

Whymummy...IIRC we all said exactly the same thing. Greasy hair spots sweaty etc? Must be the norm.....all gone now! Dont know why im here need to get ready!

OP posts:
whymummy · 04/02/2005 18:44

fee77 · 04/02/2005 20:34

I am back - i was whisked off for a romantic break in Paris, where we spent the whole time maaking sweet love, drinking and smoking!!!!!!!!!
Ok i lied - DD has been ill (cold, cough, conjunctivitis, teething - you name it!) and i have been to shattered to switch on the computer. I have been holed up in essex, drinkning coffee to keep me awake whilst DH plays on the computer - Paris sounded good though!!
Sorry to hear the bad news CC, it must be hard for all of you, you get out there and enjoy yourself.
SPOTS! I am one huge acne ball at the moment. I was just moaning to DH about it. My skin is never totally clear, but at the moment it is horrid.
Amazingly i am not missing smoking, even with dd being ill. Am i over it??
Has anyone got any really exciting plans for the weekend? We are off to the farm, so DD can baaa at everything as usual. When i was on the phone to nhs direct she was practising her donkey noise - the nurse thought she was having trouble breathing!!!!

whymummy · 04/02/2005 21:22

LOL fee
i'm glad you don't miss smoking no more, wish i could say the same although it is getting soooo much easier but i am going out tomorrow night and the couple we're meeting smoke and it'll be my first drink without a fag!!! i will be strong!!
hope your dd is much better now and you all enjoy the farm,we're not doing much this weekend,if weather is nice i will take the children out tomorrow as i might be feeling a bit delicate on sunday

fee77 · 04/02/2005 21:39

You are so brave! I don't think i will be able to go out ever again. I am starting to worry about our summer holiday - too many fond memories of sitting outside, reading a book, drinking wine and SMOKING! Luckily my 2 smoking "partners" are both pregnant so if i smoke, i smoke alone! And i certainly don't do hang overs now! Luckily DD is a good sleeper usually, but i don't think i could cope! I sound like my mum.
DD is fine in herself now - just looks a bit gooey! I think she just got run down after teething, and not eating last week.

minkmama · 04/02/2005 23:34

Hi girls - good news, have just quit smoking as of half an hour ago and am finally feeling my positive self!! i think the crunch was this tickly cough i've got at the mo and all i could think was 'WHAT AM I DOING WHEN THIS IS MAKING ME FEEL WORSE???' plus i cleared up all those flowerpot dog-ends before someone came round today and quite frankly it was just sad!

poor fg!!! hope you're feeling a little better now, but it's better to get it out...i always feel more focused after a good blub. BIG HUGS XXX

i'm glad dd's getting back to normal fee, i know exactly what it's like! luckily with ds1 we had no probs with the teething (had/have the eczema instead to keep us up!) but ds2 is a baby who needs his comfort so every so often he goes on those no eating and grumpy benders. he's only got 5 1/2 teeth!

oh oh, gotta go, ds1 has just woken up. night night xxx

charliecat · 05/02/2005 00:03

Good stuff Mink...so so so so so so so pleased to hear youve quit. WELL DONE.

I have just survived a whole bloody drink filled evening with friends smoking and ....they kept saying Dya wanna fag...and I really really didnt.
WoooHaaaa.
Kids were OMG so so so so so so so good. They sat and watched videos munching on this that and the other and fell asleep at about 9.30.....exhausted. Felt a right bitch waking them up to put them in the taxi but once wont do them any harm and they thought they were on holiday with a fold out bed each!
Missing dp...lonely in bed...really thought youdd been off to paris in your first sentence Fee OMG was soooooooooooooooooo LOL

OP posts:
charliecat · 05/02/2005 00:23

(How childish! - Ed) ...rememinds me of something in J17..lol.......OMG there was a thing in J17 once...and I still rememeber it now. Well its coming back to me anyway.....
......something about a boy with long eyelashes , it was a poem, and it said about his eyelashes and the way he made you smile...in fact it was called Just Because i think and it was ...oh some drivel about his boy not being perfect but loving him Just Because.........
............laughing here, slightly pissed but I remember it from when I was 14........
Ok must go to bed now

OP posts:
whymummy · 05/02/2005 14:30

well done minkmama and good luck
glad you had a great time charliecat i on the other hand i have cancelled tonight!i'm just not ready,my mum's here for two weeks and i should be going out as we don't have many chances but i really feel awful, really spotty and bloated(too many m&m's)and i know i will end up smoking so i'm saving myself for next weekend,i'm sure i feel better by then.
have a great weekend all of you !!

charliecat · 05/02/2005 22:48

That is soo sooo sooo brave of you to cancel. It is more important to stay focussed than it is go out and if you thought you would wibble then youve done the right thing. Practice drinking without fags in the home first
Fee hows your dd now?
Mink are you focussed and back in line with the pack?
I have had a shitty day, I am a paranoid bitch from hell and of course with dp being away in Scotland and him mentioning that his X is going to be at the funeral......well...I was in a pit of a black hole and dug myself out by glossing the kitchen skirting boards and replacing green manky carpet with nice vinyl that looks like laminate.....couldnt have the real thing coz of the upside down house design but anyway its kept me sane for the day.
Is it just me whos paranoid...are any of you?
