Millet rice cereal with raisins and linseeds for breakfast.

Hummous, tomatoes and beansprouts in pitta bread for lunch, followed by pineapple chunks.

Am sitting here with a cup of tea while the kiddiwinks are asleep, resisting the siren call of the banana loaf in the breadbin.

notnowbernard · 07/04/2008 13:45

MExpress, how very healthy!! Well done!

midnightexpress · 07/04/2008 13:48

I know! It is rather, isn't it? See, we do actually have healthy food around, but we also have a tendency to eat far too many puds and biccies and cakes - that's what I want to cut out but I find it so hard.

QuintessentialShadows · 07/04/2008 13:53

notnowbernard, I think this is probably right, it is possible to wean off it totally. When I was a student, I decided to stay away from anything chocolate for a year. I ate nothing that contained chocolate, and had cinnamon on my cappucino. After a few weeks the cravings stopped, and when a year later I could eat chocolate again it did not mean so much to me, at first. Then I got "hooked" again....

Good to see we are doing well so far!

We've got healthy food around, too. I think that generally I eat quite well. But like you, I consume too many puddings, treats, biscuits (at work - don't have them at home) and sweets/choc

Which is why I started the sugar ban last week

notnowbernard · 07/04/2008 13:57

Oh God, it's an addiction!

Abstinence is the only way!

I agree, though... sugar is a bit like a drug, isn't it? You crave it, you eat it, it alters the way you feel/gives you pleasure, you crave some more... blah blah blah

Who needs crack, eh?!

FunkyGlassSocks · 07/04/2008 13:57

I had lunch at a friends so had sandwich and fruit. No snacks yet. This is VERY good for me so far.

orangina · 07/04/2008 14:09

Had healthy lunch (salad-y stuff and an apple) about an hour and a half ago..... feeling INCREDIBLY hungry now and as though I really need a kitkat
(augh!)
WIll go drink some milk.

jennster · 07/04/2008 14:10

I got down to 10st10 just before I got pg with dd. When I got pg with ds, dd was 9 months old, and because I was still bf I hadn't lost all the weight.

No idea what I weigh now but don't think I'll get down to 10st10 again. I was running 3 times a week and at the gym twice working 42 hours with no breaks or time to snack......pre-children obviously. So I'd like to get down to 11st (I'm 5'10'' btw)

Anyway the point of this rambling post was I was SO over sugar and empty calories when I got pg with dd, but the baking and coffee mornings have caught up with me.

We are Carboholics Anonymous

Lovely to see that other people battle with the things I find so hard...

Just went to the cupboard, but turned the other cheek and walked away

gymgym10 · 07/04/2008 15:29

Sounds like every-one is doing really well! Am sat at work starving & trying to resist the choc hobnobs in the corner-will now have my apple instead - not quite the same but I will be strong!!

yomellamoHelly · 07/04/2008 15:39

Okay it's cup of tea time and I've just snaffled 6 bits of dark chocolate! (Really enjoyed them.)
Had done well so far in avoiding half a pack of choccy biscuits mid-morning (my usual snack ), but boy have I missed it. Chicken/bacon/tomato sauce on spaghetti for lunch but I still got that mid-afternoon just-want-to-sleep-and-sleep-and-sleep moment and NEEDED that choc. Thought about nothing else for two hours! Wasn't really hungry just NEEDED it! How sad is that! Salsa tonight so at least I'll burn it off.
This morning I went to the gym, so obviously I need a distraction strategy for the afternoons as well. Will have to make a plan tonight for tomorrow.
I've also resolved not to buy any more goodies for our cupboards for future "moments' and think I need to buy some nuts/fruit etc. (which just don't seem to have the same appeal somehow!)
Am wondering if I'm the only one .....

PuppyDogTails · 07/04/2008 15:43

My stomach thinks my throat's been cut

hairtwiddler · 07/04/2008 15:55

Has anyone else got symptoms of withdrawl????
I've got a headache, feel exhausted and fed up! I must have a true sugar addiction. It's over an hour until dinner. May hit the grapes.

QuintessentialShadows · 07/04/2008 15:59

Yup, up for a coffee with no sugar and a glass of water?

OP posts:
hairtwiddler · 07/04/2008 16:01

A peppermint tea for me please!

hairtwiddler · 07/04/2008 16:04

the caffeine is a whole other addiction! One thing at a time.

Tickle · 07/04/2008 16:05

Struggle moment here...

it was dd2's birthday on Saturday, and the rest of her cake is in the larder. I have just given small pieces to dd2 and ds2 - and have retreated in here to log on, so I don't have to see them eat it

At least it's a change from yesterday when I snaffled about 5 small pieces through the day

Tickle · 07/04/2008 16:06

snap hairtwiddler - mint tea here too [holy emoticon]

midnightexpress · 07/04/2008 16:13

Well done tickle. I am still dwelling unhealthily on the banana loaf, but nearly time to start getting the dinner ready, so the last furlong is within sight for day one.

Gee up!

notnowbernard · 07/04/2008 16:15

half a raw carrot and a mini breadstick as a snack with a cup of Yogi tea

Smithagain · 07/04/2008 16:24

Story so far -

breakfast = porridge with chopped up fruit and watered-down orange juice, coffee

lunch = omlette with chopped up leftover veg from last night, plus banana. Not 100% healthy, but I'm trying to have "proper" food for lunch, not sandwiches. Once I start on bread, I don't stop.

Have weakened slightly and had one biscuit with my afternoon coffee-and-a-sit-down. But it was only one and I am not going to have any more. No, I'm not. That's why I'm on here

Smithagain · 07/04/2008 16:25

How's the exercise going everyone? I normally get one and a half hours of walking done on school days - half of it nice and brisk because we're always late!

So what am I going to do during the holidays that is just as easy to fit in around the kids?

Tickle · 07/04/2008 16:32

smith - can you walk them somewhere else? A museum, park or something? Or take them swimming?

Everyone doing v well - nice to see!

ingles2 · 07/04/2008 16:32

I need to lose a stone before June 6th (family wedding!)
Today I've had
cereal
yoghurt
some leftover ricesalad for lunch
and a mango
unfortunately I've also eaten 6 maltesers (no will power at all )
I have just walked 5 miles with the kids and dog...so am I excused those maltesers?
and am dreading the 8pm desperately in need of a glass of wine scenario...I'm really bad at wanting something I can't have.
