For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Boco, I think you should ask MN.

No F&V yet but am planning a good lunch and am thinking about juice.

lullabyloo · 01/04/2008 15:13

Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Day
We have mice plural

I found chewed carpet & then droppings...many of...teamed with scratching in the loft & sighting of mouse on terrace..I think I have been in mouse denial for some weeks.

The pest people are here & so is dh
They do not use humane traps
He is laying nasty stuff in the loft & I am dragging ds & my red swollen faced self off to the park

I hate dh
I hate this flat

S1ur · 01/04/2008 15:14

I think the mn books would be wonderful with illustrations and it would be much better to keep it in the family - mafia-style. Or possibly Beale empire style

Franny you sound like you're doing very well! I'm on about a 5, but just made banana bread with dcs though so feel virtuous and wholesome.

Toot - I notice my memory gets considerably poorer the more tired I am. I think you probably just need a little rest and tlc.

S1ur · 01/04/2008 15:17

Ack Lully that's crap.

Grrr to mice, blardy things. Try not to be too down on yourself, at least the killers professionals will get the job done effciently.

Fullmoonfiend · 01/04/2008 15:50

oh and I didn't dare admit this yearday but I used to have a moon diary. It was given to me because my RL nickname is not a million miles off my MN nickname and becuase i have an allomtnet. ANd because my friends think I am a wierod hippy....

TBH I tried planitng b the phases of the moon but swiftly abadoned it because I have to plant when I have the blardy time - which never seems to coincide with an auspicious phase of the frickin moon.

No wonder my allotment produce was crap last year...I am a bad hippy.

Boco you should mention it to MN anyway. And if you don't, we will!!

Lully - I have no advice over mice - we don't have them. Well, not live ones. Not whole ones either. (we have a very good cat who won't let 'em past the back lane )

Franny amd envious of your teen toddler=player

TooT - I wish you were nearer.

I wish all of you were nearer...
x

FrannyandZooey · 01/04/2008 16:51

Muesli with dried fruit, fruit salad with kiwi, strawbs & grapes; small salad with leaves, cucumber and pepper; supper will be moussaka with ample courgette, aubergine & tomato.

Have done 3/4 hour in gym (part of new lifestyle, can just about squeeze in between work & collecting DS if I am quick).

The sun is shining here at bloody last

Sorry about the mice, LL. WE had oen living in our sitting room for ages (cat brought it in but didn;t actually do anything with it). It lasted about 5 weeks before I realized it was here, living behind a bookcase. Once i realized I caught it ina box and let it go (far away where cat would not get it).

Have since replaced mouse wee carpet with hard flooring.

But I suppose nesting mice are different because they have moved in, not acidentally found there way in. Hope you enjoyed park & sunshine.

TooT I get that kind if thing a lot, particulalry in the afternoons when I am tired. I also get repetetively "mummied", which tends to make me go into a trance-like state where I cannot think.

I did food shopping wihtout DS yesterday and it took me about 10 mins as opposed to the normal 3/4 hour while I try to remember / read list with DS constant chattering in my ear, and trailing back around aisles because I have forgotten things due to the chattering. It was quite a revelation.

FrannyandZooey · 01/04/2008 16:59

Lully am also sorry about mice
I am in denial about ours
apparently we have to keep putting poison down for as long as we live here or be infested because they are going to keep coming in from next door

I am saying la la la and hoping they haven't eaten all the baby clothes up in the loft

FrayedKnot · 01/04/2008 17:11

It was rather overdue Franny

I had 10 days of PMS induced cake stuffing to deal with

Now I am in my energetic fruity phase of the month

And it's sunny

Fullmoonfiend · 01/04/2008 17:30

I am craving fruit and veg after a week of crap food...
dh was been dispatched to supermarket for emergency nice fruit. he has come home with....

.....one punnet of cheap strawberries.
5 apples

GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Fullmoonfiend · 01/04/2008 17:33

ah. And now the dsses have eaten 2 of the apples and half the strawberries

UnderRated · 01/04/2008 18:41

Oh no, Lully. Mice are horrible. They always make me feel like my house is really dirty when it isn't.

What can I do with my aubergine? I don't really want to do it in a tomatoey sauce again.

And any idea for chickpeas that isn't humous?

FMF, I hope you have hidden some of that fruit. I wish I had apples or berries - everything I have needs preparing and I am feeling very lazy. Again.

FrayedKnot · 01/04/2008 19:22

Stuff it, UR.

The aubergine, of course!

littlerach · 01/04/2008 19:28

Chickpea and pepper frittata? Though I add sun dried tomatoes as it's always a bit dry.

UnderRated · 01/04/2008 19:37

Chickpeas in fritatta is a good idea. Will try that tomorrow. May very well stuff it, FK

BBBee · 01/04/2008 19:51

I see your mice and raise you with nits AND fleas.

roasted vegetable panni (must be 1 surely)
apple
baked potato and HUGE HUIGE HUGE salad

oh god I am crap.

fmv i love you having a moon diary.

We wathced hostel 2 last night - it is terribly terribly compelling. You have to kill people and get a tatoo of a dog. We could have a 10/10 tatoo. Boco could design it.

It is dp's bday tomorrow - I was going to get him a dvd from the year he was born 1972 - but got a beergman film from 1973 instead so the idea didn't work. ANd a bill bailey cd.

TooTicky · 01/04/2008 19:58

You can make a nice dip/spread thing with aubergine. I think you roast it, then whizz it with garlic and things. /Maybe tahini.

TooTicky · 01/04/2008 20:01

I have done v. badly f&v wise today but I did make a picnic and we had it on thr way home from school, under the trees at the top of a small hill, in the wind. A green woodpecker kept laughing at us. And then ds2 took off his socks and shoes to walk through the squishy bits in the field.

Boco · 01/04/2008 20:01

It's my dps birthday on Saturday. He was born in 1973, maybe you could give the dvd to him. He already has a Bill Bailey cd though. I don't know what to get him. I was hoping to get something in London tomorrow but Im so unbelievably tired I can't imagine actually getting there tomorrow. Would be ok if i could go on my own, but these girls are just being so high maintenance everything is a struggle.

big salad
tomatoes
cucumber
strawberries
grapes
banana
apples
apple juice
raisins but not really a whole portions worth

I'd say 6.5

ahundredtimes · 01/04/2008 20:06

Oh Boco, I hope you do go. Though I know what you mean about the tiredness, and also about having to leave the house with high-maintenance children.

Grit your teeth and go? It is very tiring when they are like that, I'm fairly sure all of mine have been at different times, except with ds1 you could throw in random acts of violence too.

Are you feeling you need strategies? Tiredness makes high maintenance children even more demanding.

I am going to puppy classes again tonight. I shall see if I can pick up some tips.

Boco · 01/04/2008 20:12

Definitely need new strategies. Tonight for example, neither of them ate dinner, they got down, fought, refused to eat, so dp got stressed, ate and left, leaving me nagging, pleading, barking and cajoling. Then the phone rang and it was the lady i'm supposed to be doing work for, and while trying to explain that I hadn't finished it they had a big fight and dragged each other around the room howling, kicked over spaghetti and a glass of apple juice. Cleaned them up, threw away dinner, cleaned floor, and now they're both crying and saying they're hungry. I don't remember them being this hard. Dp in the SHED.

TooTicky · 01/04/2008 20:17

Oh Boco [heartfelt sympathy]
It is and I don't know what to suggest. All of mine have had phases like this. Still do.

TooTicky · 01/04/2008 20:23

I think firmness and briskness are good, but I am rubbish at them.
Then there's lightness and brightness and reasonable discussion, which is really difficult if you're cross and upset.
