You may have finished treatment for cancer, be NED or in remission, or it’s just a lull between storms. You don’t want to dwell on the past but look forward to the future. You know you need to eat well, get fitter and pick up the strands of life again. This is the thread for you with fellow travellers. Join us!

There is the General Cancer thread for those in active treatment:

And there is the Stage IV thread for those whose treatment is ongoing:

Looks like a lovely place to visit FairyWren7.

Darn it I have made my knee so sore I can’t do stairs without pain. I will have to take it easy now. I think it’s just a kneecap thing but it’s annoying.

I have noticed our thread has got a bit quiet. That seems a healthy sign for those of us who are some way out from Cancerland but I think the thread meets a need for somewhere to move on to after active Cancer treatment is over. With that in mind I will start a third thread soon.
What resources would the rest of you recommend for newcomers? I’m thinking of things like the Getting Your Oomph Back book or the Breast Cancer Now Moving Forward course. Yoga, swimming, walking. Any suggestions?

So sorry to hear about covid @Penguinsa hope it continues to be mild. Your trip sounded amazing. Glad your dd is enjoying life post exams.
Lovely news about your DSD @TopOfTheCliff and really sorry about your sore knee. Hope it’s on the mend soon.
currently nursing a very sore hip/ back due I think to too much sitting on trains/ in concerts and whilst visiting laid up friends…. Think I’ll have to find new physio- saw the one we often use who didn’t really seem to know what he was treating….
I like the idea of resources… Penny Brohn pennybrohn.org.uk/our-approach/resources/have various courses on their website, and Look good feel better have other resources too? And Maggie’s?

I’m having a lazy afternoon @thesandwich watching the football and working on my guide book. It’s quite relaxing.
I am thinking the intro to the Cancer Recovery thread 3 could list the resources we found useful to give a heads up to those looking for help.
Peter Harvey’s psychology guidance would be useful. Maybe the charities that offer free holidays too?

Also hope your back/ hip mends quickly @thesandwich . It’s aggravating being held back!

Those are good suggestions for resources and it would be useful to have them listed at the start of the thread.

thesandwich · 06/07/2024 21:23

Thanks @TopOfTheCliff . At last we won a penalty shoot out!
The other suggestion would be the mountain lion story? I’ve found that so helpful and shared it with many friends.

TopOfTheCliff · 06/07/2024 22:02

Yes the penalty shoot out definitely wasn’t relaxing 😳

Looks lovely Fairywren

Third thread would be good Top and maybe a sticky one at the top with tips and a welcome to newbies and explanation its for anyone post cancer. I just have the exercise - swimming, walking, rowing/canoeing and gardening for me and build up gradually but can cut reoccurrence by 50% if do for 3 to 5 hours a week. SomethingtoLookForwardTo goes to a year after treatment ends so worth a look for those in that period. Maybe Macmillan for benefits advice if needed like PIP, ESA.

Thanks TheSandwich

Just done 3.5 hours gardening with DH and planted the RHS plants,5 lavenders, 2 lilies and a scented honeysuckle and weeding / tidying and more plants arriving Tuesday evening. Making a real difference now.

Awesome! @TopOfTheCliff

I’m still having leg pain and will need to visit the physio - we’ve done a lot of miles this last week and are now at Mildura!

I think the importance of pacing yourself - mental health wise. I recommend getting a good counsellor especially if you are dealing with other stuff as well as the cancer. X
