Hand hold while I wait for ambulance for daughter

Currently waiting for an ambulance for my daughter. Been sent as category 3. She's not been right for a few days now, not eating, not drinking, just laying slumped on her bed. This morning she collapsed in the bathroom and went really pale.

She has a learning disability and complex mental health problems so she can't tell me what is wrong as she doesn't verbally communicate when she feels unwell.

She was in hospital a couple of weeks back due to an infection (see previous threads) so I hope it's nothing to do with that.

I'm so worried, I feel sick.

Forgot to say she is 20 years old.

Can you not take her? An ambulance may take hours.

I have no transport and getting her out of the house is a big operation that requires numerous professionals. I wouldn't be able to do it on my own.

You poor thing. Handholding here.

have you got a bag organised with a water bottle, snacks, phone charger etc?

Sera1989 · 27/01/2024 12:45

So sorry you are going through this. Hope the ambulance is quick and they can find out what is wrong with your DD and make it right ❤. Let us know when you are on your way into hospital

PotatoPrimo · 27/01/2024 12:45

I’m so sorry you’re both going through this. As a mum of a young adult with additional needs, I feel for you. Hopefully they won’t be too long now x

Whoopaday · 27/01/2024 12:45

Hand hold.
Is someone with you? Can someone monitor her whilst you put together a bag with a charger/drinks bottle/change of clothes for you/her medication/medical history?

Thank you. I have yes, I've got a bag packed for her and for me as they usually let me stay overnight with her due to her disability. It's so worrying when they can't tell you how they are feeling.

How does she seem now?

Rarewaxwing · 27/01/2024 12:49

I hope you don't have to wait too much longer.

Remember to pack things for yourself too: snacks, toothbrush and paste; medication; clean pants/socks. You might be in hospital for a while.

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 27/01/2024 12:50

She's laid on her bed, very quiet. Head down and just looking at the floor. This kind of behaviour is how she is when she isn't well so I know something is wrong.

I'm on my own unfortunately. My husband is taking his son back to his mums so it's just me and my daughter here.

She suffers with chronic constipation and had to have an enema the other night. I'm wondering if she's severely constipated as she hasn't really had a normal bowel movement all month apart from after the enema.

I'm so sorry - I hope that she will be ok. I have a 22 year old with complex needs who can't express how she feels. So I understand that worry Flowers

StopTheQtipWhenTheresResistance · 27/01/2024 12:55

Thank you so much everyone, I feel sick with worry. I've never seen her collapse before. She didn't lose consciousness or anything but she just went down onto the floor. Scared me.

I've got all her medications ready and chargers, phones, drinks, snacks etc.

Sounds very scary. You’ve done the right thing and I hope the ambulance arrives soon.

Thanks. Just trying to syringe some orange juice in her. Only way to get fluids in her

Do you think she's physically unwell, or mentally?

As well as medication, try to take a list of all current (and recent, if she's recently had anything else) medication - a copy of a prescription perhaps?
Does she have any comfort items she would like in hospital with her? A favourite pillow or blanket or similar? Pack a book or a kindle for yourself as she may spend a lot of time sleeping if she is admitted.

NotAnysmore · 27/01/2024 13:19

Hand holding from me to you both OP.

I hope the ambulance isn't a long wait and your DD is feeling better ASAP.

What a scary day for you both.

NotAnysmore · 27/01/2024 13:23

As for the wait, if everything's packed and ready have you two got a favourite film or tv show you can put on to try and lighten the mood?

Always the worst waiting for medical help at home (in my experience anyway) and I'm inclined to sit in silence when stressed which then adds to my stress. Having some lighthearted background noise takes the edge of a bit for us. X

I've got her blanket ready as she likes to have a comfort blanket. All medications packed in the bag too.

I think it's primarily physical which is then having a knock on effect to her mental health. She went like this when she had an infection a couple of weeks back (minus the collapsing).

I wondered what the deleted comment said.

To the other poster, I'm literally waiting for an ambulance and checking on my daughter. Not a lot else I can do so of course I have time to post.

I hope the ambulance arrives soon. It must be so difficult if she can't tell you what's wrong. Flowers
