For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

TooTicky · 18/03/2008 23:07

Wow, homemade crumpets!!
I have made English muffins before.

Zippi, I had just typed a huge long reply when it started muttering about servlets and I lost it. So, briefly now... (bed beckons)...
Travelled sort of independently, went by train - yes, really! - arrived in middle of night, person who was supposed to be meeting us was expecting us 12 hours later and we stuck out immediately as tourists which was not a good thing and we were miraculously rescued from the people giving us looks and many taxi drivers by a delightful Georgian chap with a broad U.S. accent who escorted us to where we were staying. We stayed as paying guests in the flat of a lovely lovely lady. Stayed a couple of nights then went to Latvia and stayed in a flat without owners present. Shabby on the outside and grand on the inside - still don't know if it was haunted though or whether there was somebody in there with us one night [fear]

TooTicky · 18/03/2008 23:08

Pink, I read that as, " ran about 30 miles"
Actually, I wouldn't put it past you

TooTicky · 18/03/2008 23:09

UR, do you not also need bicarbinate of soda?

RosemaryBoxer · 18/03/2008 23:10

well we are goig to basicaly walk up the hill and as i am scared of flying when i went to egypt i cried during take off and had a stranger next e to me (now on my favebook) so will be nice flying with a known person

Crumpets

Makes ~ 12

8 oz (225 g) strong plain flour
1 level teaspoon salt
1 level tablespoon dried yeast
1 level teaspoon caster sugar
½ pint (275 ml) milk

Warm milk til 'hand hot', stir in the sugar & yeast. Leave in a warm place for 10-15 minutes until frothy on top

Put flour and salt in bowl, make well and add frothy batter. Cover with tea towel and leave in warm place for 45 mins

Grease circle cookie cutter, place in frying pan, dollop 1 tbs batter in and cook for ~ 5 mins. Then remove cookie cutter & flip. Cook for another min. You could do it without the cookie cutter though.

I think this recipe needs improving though - it was a bit yeasty. Would use less next time

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 23:15

Running for 30 mins is v impressive

Lithuania sounds interesting. Hope the flying is easier this time, zippi. The first time my ex ever flew was with me to Poland. It was an awful flight and the pilot seemed to forget to descend slowly and the plane plummeted almost vertically onto the runway. I sat next to an interesting composer/ conductor who drank an entire litre of tomato juice straight out of the carton.

TooTicky · 18/03/2008 23:15

Ooh thank you UR - just the weather for crumpets! The novelty of spreading fruit spread on something DIFFERENT

Sorry Zippi, have just re-read my post and it was terribly garbled. I hope you have a fabulous time anyway.

Am off to bed. Night all

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 23:17

Is there a need to add vertically when one says plummet? It indicates verticalness, does it not?

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 23:20

Night Toots. We had them with butter and lots of strawberries, bananas and oranges. Was really good.

RosemaryBoxer · 18/03/2008 23:22

We'll expect 30 miles next time then, PSW

UnderRated · 19/03/2008 01:39

F&V count: 2.5 bananas, 2 oranges, 2.5 portions strawberries, raisins and will have juice in a min. So 9, but only fruit. Will make amends tomorrow.

Strangely, there was a link to Black Bean Brownies on my gmail page just now. It made me think of you. Tempting, no?

BBBee · 19/03/2008 07:20
