Wow Ladyjogs- if you run to that you'll do 5k in about 10 mins .

I might add one on for when I need a bit of energising.

Furball · 02/04/2008 18:48

But I like rawberts music! and week 8 hasn't got the track listings so I can't get hold of them am going to have to listen to him over and over and over again!

I'm going to have to join the obsessed thread aren't I?

OP posts:
cherryredretrochick · 02/04/2008 19:45

I did 20mins running, only 3k though. treadmill at gym will only let you do 20mins.
New shoes are fab when running but feel really weird when you are walking in them.
I listen to lots of Nine Inch Nails and general heavy electrically stuff, same stuff I like to dance to when I am out so it reminds me why i want to look all thin.
Going to try and map some 5k runs now so I can build up over the next couple of weeks.
Is really hilly here though so I am a bit worried, bit bored of doing laps of the park though.
At the moment I can't imagine doing 5k never mind 10 but must keep going.

LadyJogsAlot · 02/04/2008 20:28

god ds was really sick again spent the last hour bathing and cleaning him/carpet/clothes.
didn't get out for a jog

i liked rawbs music too.
i also like to run to drum and bass - although i think i jog too fast to it!

it's also good to have a song with words as you can sing along in your head to take your mind off of things.

when i ran to rawbs music i would kinda go into a trance ofr the last five mins or so!

god i want to go out. maybe i could go now.

cherryredretrochick · 02/04/2008 20:48

LJA really sorry to hear about your ds, poor little mite.
Hope you have a better day tommorow.
Trying to plan 5k runs and they are a lot further than I thought argh.

Itsthawooluff · 02/04/2008 21:34

LJA - thanks for the intro to Basement Jaxx. I like this young beat combo a lot. (PS hope DS feels better soon) And I finally found Rawb's podcasts on i-tunes

Furball · 03/04/2008 09:18

don't know abot friggity biggity - lets try fuckity buckity today!

I have just done taadaa 5K [round of applause] ditched the programme half way through as music was horrific so put on week 8 which I love and kept going til I'd done the distance - took about 30 minutes but I don't know exactly. but am so pleased. Not out of puff but face sweating like a sieve.

OP posts:
Minum · 03/04/2008 09:51

Just done another 28 minuter - I should increase to 30 mins, but love the tracks I've got on the MP3 player, so will stick to them a bit longer. I really need to speed up a bit now, my run is 4.3km according to www.gmap-pedometer.com/ - I want to get up to 5km in 30 minutes over the next month or so.

I've dropped the jogging bottoms now, and gone to leggings, but I'm still too warm, so may go to cropped leggings, but then I'd have to shave my legs

Itsthawooluff · 03/04/2008 13:41

Well done both - might need to start an intermediate thread if you're still frightened of the "proper" runners as definitely are not couch potatoes any longer.

Mind you if you can run 3 miles aren't you now a proper runner?

Next stop 10k?

LadyJogsAlot · 03/04/2008 21:06

evenin' all

i did 4k in just under 27 mins. is that slow?

i warmed up and cooled down for another k.

i can't imagine running all that in 30 mins. jeez.

cherryredretrochick · 03/04/2008 23:09

Sounds quite good to me. well done, hope ds is better now.

Furball · 04/04/2008 07:21

Ladyjogsalot - Fantastic - don't worry about it being slow, cor blimey - you run 4K, not many can do that

OP posts:
spamm · 04/04/2008 14:42

Hello all - wow, everybody has been so busy, I am impressed. It gives me lots of hope. LadyJogsAlot - the 4k sound impressive to me!

I did use the treadmill in the gym on Wednesday and it was fine. In fact I think it was better that outside, because it forced me to keep to a certain pace and not slow down too much. But I do not want to pay gym fees so I will just have to push myself.

The only embarrassing bit was running alongside colleagues who were also in the same hotel...but I will live.

Anyway, cannot go out tonight as dh is taking me out to dinner for 10th wedding anniversary. So tomorrow morning will be my next chance.

LadyJogsAlot · 04/04/2008 15:55

happy anni spamm
10 yrs cor blimey!

thanks to all for your kind words. ds was not sick at all yesterday - hooray

next jog on sunday probably...

debbiewebweb · 05/04/2008 13:54

I think doing 4km is great spamm. On the treadmill I jog at 8.5km/hour, which would take about 35minutes to do 5km, you must have been doing more like 9km. But my idea is to work on getting the distance first and then once 5km is acheivable then I;ll work on the speed.
I went to the gym this morning because dd had her swimming lesson so I went on the treadmill, I did 3 minute walk, then 23minutes jog and then I had to stop to fetch her from her lesson and I found I was dissappointed I had to stop - I felt like I could have gone quite a bit further . It amazes me that less than 2 months ago the thought of running 2 minutes just about killed me

Furball · 05/04/2008 16:10

it amazes me too debbie, I mean, I even got up at 6.30am (I am in an insomniac BTW) to go out for a run, I really must be barmy!

OP posts:
IdrisTheDragon · 06/04/2008 22:52

I am thinking of doing this - have downloaded the podcasts .

spamm · 06/04/2008 23:02

OK - went out yesterday evening having decided to stick to the week 1 for another week.

I think that I can do week 2 breathing wise, but my calves are killing me and I find it hard to keep running. Any idea what I can do to help this - am I just not stretching enough?

Anyway, next one tomorrow and hopefully it will not be snowing! It was bad enough coming back yesterday evening in hail and freezing rain. I did my best not to use it as an excuse to give up, but it definitely slowed me down.

Hope you all had a good weekend with positive running!

Minum · 07/04/2008 07:58

Spamm - the first thing I did when I had calf problems was increase stretching - I do 2 minutes before and 2 minutes after the run (timed so I dont cut it short). I share the time between touching my toes, calf stretch and thigh stretch. I also did calf stretches mid run (in the walking bits) in the early weeks, if they were really hurting.

Second was to go to a running shop, get my gait looked at, and bought some fab running shoes. I now have few calf problems.

Its school hols now, so somehow have to keep running with DC in tow, may get them to cycle alongside me

Itsthawooluff · 07/04/2008 08:22

I did the last run on week 5 yesterday morning. I find it unbelievable that after 5 weeks (well 7 because I can't always manage three runs a week) when in week 1 I was praying for 45 seconds to end, I ran for a whole 20 minutes non-stop.

Holy cow!

Spamm I also had horrible calf and shin pain when I started. It does get better after a while I promise, your bones get stronger and your muscles adapt to what you are now asking them to do.

Go on Idris, you know you should. If I can, then really truly anyone can. I was always the one trailing along at the back in PE, and now I can run for 20 minutes at a time! Did I tell you that already? 20 minutes, in one go, me - woohoo!

Furball · 07/04/2008 10:07

it's very euphoric isn't it Wooluffy! Well done - told you you could do it!!!! Congratulations

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 07/04/2008 10:41

Well done Wooluff !!

Come on Idris - don those running shoes...

Hello evryone else. I should be out running this morning as dd in playscheme as its the holidays so I can run but still recovering from last week's flu so will have to start again on thursday. Sigh.

MrsJohnCusack · 07/04/2008 11:39

i haven't been able to run for ages - away last week and now back with a horrible fluey cold. and then I will be out nearly every night for the next 3 weeks or so, and it's too dark to run after the children go to bed. so after my work stint I'm going to join the gym for 3 months. I wonder how out of practice I'm going to get
