OMG OMG Wheely that's fantastic!!!

How are your legs today? I'm a bit achey, but I've got a 'shorter' 3k to do tomorrow, so hopefully haven't overdone it.

Just bought Davina's workout cd which has come highly recommended to work on abs a couple of times a week - the things kids do to your bodies!

I checked on my heart monitor watch and after 8k it said I'd burned 700 cals After I'd done 'arms and abs' for a while at the gym I'd burned 1000 cals - why don't I look slimmer? ! Maybe this summer I'll get into that wetsuit (they shrink in the wardrobe you know).

Keep going everyone, the longest journey starts with a single step.

Wheelybug · 20/04/2008 14:40

Well done furball ! It makes such a difference having good ipod stuff I find.

Bramble - I actually don't feel too achey today which I'm quite surprised at. I am trying to get another run in today as I would normally go out on Mondays but I have a plumber coming (well he's been coming for the last week but has promised me he'll turn up tomorrow) so want to try and get out today. Have to take dd to a party so no doubt I'll feel like getting out after being in a room of rampaging 3 and 4 year olds !

Furball · 20/04/2008 16:41

wheeley - I do feel mean for not praising you for your 6.6K [gulp] that is a real achievement. I tend to type first then read later!

I'm still working towards racing wooluff to the sweet trolley at the worcester meet up in a few weeks

I am going out again on Weds as am feeling a bit better now, I am going to try and go straight for 5k and see what happens, I can always walk the last bit if I need to.
If I manage that then i will start to think about upping it, probably 1mile at a time as that is one lap of my local park.
Well done wheely, bramble and furball.

Wheelybug · 20/04/2008 19:05

No probs furball - I know what its like.

I did 5k this evening. Was hard though - think I was more achey and effected by yesterday than I realised. But, at least 5K is now my 'easier' run which feels like an achievement. I never would have believed that 3 months ago !

Bramble - are you doing a set programme to get up to the 10K or are you making it up as you go along ? You seem to have a schedule and I am thinking of aiming for 10K next.

Wheelybug · 20/04/2008 19:05

good luck on wednesday Dita.

bramblebooks · 20/04/2008 19:11

keep it up everyone!

Go for it on Weds, Dita!!

Wheely - I did download a programme from runners world which I 'customised'. However, I think they expect you to have been running a regular 5k for 6 months or so - apparently your bones and muscles etc have to be used to it. ?!? So I figured since I got that far last year it would be ok! I haven't exactly stuck to it, as it was too stretching.

What I tend to do is 3k on Mondays, including some hill running at a lower speed. Then I do 5k on Wednesdays, including some spurts of speed with slower bits in between. Friday or Sat is longer run day. My mate's training for a half marathon, so she's said don't add on more than 10% each week. I've been slightly stretchy with that one and have added an extra kilometre each week as my big run is in just a few weeks, however, if I'd had time I'd probably have added 0.5k each week - despite the temptation to get there faster!

After the big race I'll have to keep going though, so will need some training/ motivation to build speed.

We've all done brill, those of us at the beginning and still going, those of us doing longer distances. Who'd have thought it on those first shaky week 1 steps?

Wheelybug · 20/04/2008 19:17

thanks bramblebooks - I think I'll stay running around the 5K with maybe 1 longer one a week until I do RFL which is 18 May and then start thinking about extending it.

I have just looked back at the first thread and I started this running malarky on 14 January. Its v. wierd looking back !

LadyJogsAlot · 21/04/2008 08:12

hi everyone! i'm back from a four days of running french style (baguette under arm and a piece of brie up my bum) to the fridge and back

ahhhh what a life...

you guys are doing so fab. i'm gonna try go out tonight (still on week 5 hope i can pick myself up quickly)

bramblebooks · 21/04/2008 09:48

takes some good red wine and cheese from lady, runs in front of her waving it ;)

just back from a 3k on the roads - harder than on the treadmill, even though I set it on an incline - that's taught me a lesson! Mind you, I started off with some of the local runners who were off for a 'short 10k run' pmsl! I foolishly said that I'd run the first mile with them until we parted ways - omg how fast were they ? !!!!

Know thy limits!

Off to do Davina abs whilst I'm still togged up, then it's housey stuff and prep for work tomorrow.

Cool runnings, guys.

Did Week 3 run 1 yesterday - my first try with the podcasts help. Went pretty well. I think I actually found it better without a watch as I'm not checking it constantly to see how many more seconds of running to go!

Looking forward to being able to come on here and say 'just been and done a 3k' - hats off to you ...

Have just commited to an RFL in July. Hoping I've got enough time to train enough. Really want to run all the way.

Running vibes to all ...

SP xx

debbiewebweb · 21/04/2008 14:30

Hello everyone, wow well done - doesn't a week or so make a big difference, now so many of you are talking about 5k and 6.5k etc.
After being laid up for over a week with girl flu I went to the gym to ease myself back into it on the treadmill and managed 30mins / 4k ok so was well chuffed. Then went to centreparcs this weekend so I thought I'd try my first run outside for nearly 2 weeks and I was pretty useless, I'm not sure if the small hangover / lack of sleep / kids waking me up all night caused the problem or whether I'm just out of practice. So was really fed up. I'm going to shift back down to run 10, walk 3 run 10 tomorrow I think, I'm not sure what to do don't want to lose it now - only 3 weeks to RFL

ditavonteesed · 21/04/2008 14:44

That soiunds like a good plan, just for one runto get back into it.

EffiePerine · 21/04/2008 14:46

Well, am back at it after enforced break due to DS being ill... still on week 4 (I think) here...

and have just found out am pg, so I may get to the end before I have to stop - any idea when that is?

LadyJogsAlot · 21/04/2008 15:43

congrats effie

EffiePerine · 21/04/2008 15:45

I think I stopped running at about 6 weeks with DS, but was paranoid first-timer - can't see me hauling myself along at 7 months though.

ditavonteesed · 21/04/2008 16:35

congrats and

Furball · 21/04/2008 16:39

Wheelybug · 21/04/2008 17:51

congrats Effie (but I have been on this thread longer than you so really it was my turn ). Well done on being determined to run - I think there are some pregnant runners over on the 'proper' runners thread. Maybe they can advise.

Well done everyone who's been out today - I have been a little achey after my weekend's efforts but can't get out until wednesday now soshould be fine by then.

LadyJogsAlot · 21/04/2008 18:44

the things people will do to get out of jogging eh?!

i am def going to try and keep up some exercise next time i'm pg.

i got so fat last time!

Theresa · 21/04/2008 18:51

Hello everyone, I watch this thread all the time for motivation but only contribute occasionally! Have been running since Jan but not on the podcast you all downloaded I just made it up as I went along. Managed to get up to 6 miles by Easter to do 10K race on Easter Sunday, weather was awful and it took me 1hr 9 mins which is not brill (there were about 1400 people in front of me and 100 behind!). Am trying for Great North Run in October and while it is doable in theory I dont think I'll mamange it. I managed to get up to 7.75 miles once and it nearly killed me but havent managed it since. Kids have just had 2 weeks off whihc hasnt helped but it seems to be getting harder not easier! I'm having problems getting out of breath quite quickly and feeling that the novelty is wearing off!

hercules1 · 21/04/2008 19:02

Can I join in? Just started jogging two weeks ago and am mananging a slow 20 minute jog every day. Just gone back to work and realised we have a (very small)running track so I am using this after everyone has left. No idea how far I am covering but feel really much better for it already.

LadyJogsAlot · 21/04/2008 22:02

welcome herc!
good to see you theresa!
