For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

TooTicky · 05/03/2008 22:10

Have you all gone to investigate Franny's wildlife?

Lully, did you see my thank you? I posted it on here because emails seem most unreliable atm. Thank you again

Boco, glad the lesson went well.

100x, how old is ds2? Is he 8? I think 8 is a very odd age, especially for boys.

lullabyloo · 05/03/2008 22:32

Oh glad it arrived Toot & cheered ds up
The clothes probably were not at all you

pinkspottywellies · 05/03/2008 22:36

We have noises in the loft sometimes. Birds at the very egde I think but once I was convinced there was something actually up there running round all over the loft not just in the outside bit. Horrible.

Hope it stops Franny x

pinkspottywellies · 05/03/2008 22:40

I've had a swim and an apple. I did 30 lengths I haven't actually swam since before dd (have been swimming with her but not actual swimming IYSWIM) and my legs were a bit wobbly when I came out!!

we have cunting celery
for the third week running

it is so bitter & stings your throat

anyone have any tips on improving pencil control?
Nusery is worried that ds is streaks ahead intellectually but lagging behind in dexterity.
He is left handed & finds holding a pencil properly virtually impossible...scissors too.
Nursey suggessted a very montessori task of clipping & unclipping pegs onto a jelly mould to improve his pince grip....so I bought the pegs & he did them all immediately.
???????????????
what else can I try?

lullabyloo · 06/03/2008 15:25

I'm so glad you like it
Cant wait to see a pic of the bow & arrow

lullabyloo · 06/03/2008 17:47

Helllllllllllllloooooooooooooooo

ds is worrying to make apple jelly....any ideas?
he just emerged from the kitchen eating a whole head of broccoli seeing my look of he said
Oh..is it bad for me Mummy?

whatever floats your boat

FrayedKnot · 06/03/2008 18:13

Evening

Franny hope you sorted out the rats/squirrels/birds/sweet wrappers

Pink you are doing very well with your exercise...I have to report the bike ride we went on on Monday was waaaaayyy easier than last year (same route) so I must be fitter

I have been on the go (work or stuff at home) since 8.30am and have missed my afternoon sit down with cake and now I have to go to the gym..

I think I may do little gym and much steam rooming actually

UnderRated · 06/03/2008 19:03

Lully, have you tried those different kinds of pencil grips? Or triangular shaped pencils.

You can do things like cutting & sticking to help fine motor skills. Can he do up buttons and zips?

Oats with ground almonds and flax seeds & raisins
Lentil stew (tomatoes, lentils, onion, peas, corn)
Pineapple, Apple

Thankfully DS ate all the cunting blueberries so I didn't have to. I may try the mouldy banana later.

UnderRated · 06/03/2008 19:19

Activities I have used in the past to help develop Fine motor skills included:

Cutting corners of paper or over wiggly lines or making a fringe at the edge of the paper
fringe from a piece of paper. Cutting out shapes/ pictures then sticking them to make a collage.

Tracing pictures/ letters on paper or in sand/ rice/ flour (quinoa would be good too because it would feel nice)

Dot to dot pictures

Any fiddly clothing related thing: Buttoning, threading laces into shoes and tying them, doing up poppers & zips

Playing with a screwdriver, lock & keys, opening jars, wind up toys

Baking pies/ cookies (roll out & cut using pastry cutters) or playdough type stuff - roll balls, sausages etc

Tearing up newspaper

Origami

Spraying water from a spray bottle (DS 'helps' me clean so does this every few days and loves it.)

That Bedbugs game is good too.

Also, action games/ songs - if you're happy and you know it. Anything clapping, catching, wheelbarrow walking

HTH

Oh dear, I don't post for days and when I finally do, I seem to scare everybody away.

FrannyandZooey · 06/03/2008 20:36

UnderRated very good to see you! what a lot of fab ideas for fine motor skills

evening all, have been very busy waiting on Greeny hand and jingly foot enjoying myself with our guests

our other (furry) visitor is as yet unresolved but I am pleased to tell you a man with a gun extensive knowledge of rodents is coming to call tomorrow

100 you were very kind indeed, thank you, well all of you, I feel embarrassed now but I was in near hysterics, well proper hysterics actually. I have no idea why; I am not scared of rats or mice or anything. It was just the awful scuttling and the trappedness and the oh god knows, I don't want to go off on one again, but it was dreadful. I can't go back on that thread because some of the things were giving me the creeps but thank you to people who were kind and didn't laugh.

more in a minute

our 3 boys having whale of time very noisily all over the house all afternoon

highlights include:
Greeny's ds2: " I don't believe in ANYTHING." Me: "not anything?" Ds2: "hah, tricked you!"

and
Greeny's ds1: "it is very rude to say thank you darling. You should say "thank you, poo poo wee wee head."

and
me: "has anyone got anything on their plate that they don't like?" Greeny's ds1: "yes THIS, and THIS, and THIS (holding up offending articles) and probably THIS but I haven't tried it yet"

Sorry for absence yesterday, better day though!

Another run,
and probably about a 8, mainly featuring salad and soup.

Today...

melon, apple, plum, orange, tomatoes, cucumber, avocado, carrots, kidney beans, green beans and small amount of lettace...

So I reckon I might have finally hit 10

Haven't been out for run tonight though so still reaching for the 10/10...

FrannyandZooey · 07/03/2008 08:00

Slur hoorah! I am not around much today or would make you a badge. Perhaps someone else with too much time on their hands kind would do one for you?

Avi so it was YOU was it I was in such a state I didn't know what the dickens was going on, so I have not noted names or numbers. Greeny was very sympathetic when I told her, and then she said "but I remember when I went on MN about my mouse problem everyone was laughing," and I said "oh GOD, I bet I was the worst wasn't I?" but she assures me I wasn't

Grapes, banana, apple, melon, raisins. Looks like rain. Greeny plus dses are coming to my group this morning so I have roped dp in to help with inevitable overexcitement of my own ds. She will get to meet the famous Gnorman conquest creator so can join in our slightly scary internet worship of him.
