i had both valves and a double bypass done, maby thats what your husband needs if he has heart failure, even though i foster and try to lead a normal life it was badly affected by my heart for more years then i can remember but now its done i feel so much better already even though im still in the healing stage

fostermum · 20/12/2004 09:43

has your husband had that thing where they put a camara into your blood stream and watch it go through the heart,so they can check the heart all the way through,it goes in a vain in the groin, sounds horrid but not to bad at all i chatted all the way through it and watched on the tv screen that will tell docs exactly where the problem lays

misdee · 20/12/2004 09:47

HIs heart condition means that bypass etc wont work unfortunatly. he needs a tranplant. i do remember them saying that one valve was leaking, but that was because of the enlargment of his heart (his heart is currently twice the size of a normal healthy persons), and replacing the valve wont improve his quality of life.

I am not sure what tests they are doing this week. He has had an echo and ECG done, and they will do further investigating tests on his heart at harefield to see if he fits criteria for a transplant.

If he isnt out for xmas, we're planning a kidnapping for the day!

Really hope he's out for Christmas and you don't need to do a kidnap! Thinking of you lots - can't believe you're having to go through all this, plus pregnancy, plus the gestational diabetes.

misdee · 20/12/2004 15:31

He is looking really weak and exhausted. he is in pain as his veins are poor so geting drips in and blood out is hard on him. Had a rough night, and needs to rest. he was almost falling asleep when i was there.

dd2 has an ear and throat infection so cant take her up to see him. he is missing the kids loads.

Has he ever had a treadmill test misdee? He'll pretty much have the 'full set' of tests soon.

misdee · 20/12/2004 21:16

yeah e does treadmill tests fairly regularly. think his best was 15mins from walk to run.

one of dh blood cultures has started to grow bugs! yuk lol. so it seems they may have found the problem. they think it may be pneumonia, and when i left the doc was aboutto speak to thw lab to find out the best course of treatment. he will be in at least till friday. so xmas day bust out may be needed lol.

dd2 is on anti biotics, has a chest/ear infection, and the anti biotics have now upset her tummy a bit. yukky! dd1 now has temp as well, so is dosed on calpol too.

They set up a new IV of antibiotics last night, but still no doc has actually told him whats going on.

Santasluckylittlehelper · 22/12/2004 11:59

Sorry to hear he's no better misdee. Have they not confirmed the pneumonia then?

cathncait · 22/12/2004 12:06

Hi Misdee
I know we havent really spoken before but I just wanted to let you know I will be thinking of you over Christmas. My dh spent last christmas in hospital last year (had kidney cancer) and I was pregnant at the time too, so I can imagine how you're feeling. Its hard work holding the fort sometimes, so I'm glad to read that people are taking care of you. Make sure you look after yourself and have a lovely christmas. I really hope your dh improves soon.

havent said it directly to him. he just overheard the doc mention pneumonia. just want to sneek a peek at his notes.

looking very unlikly for xmas day discharge now. his veins are collasping whenver they set up an IV antibiotic, so his arms are very sore and puffy. They are having to keep popping new veins, he has had 5 cannulas in 2 days, one of them completely pushed out and he was pouring blood out of his hand (he is on warfarin so bleeds freely anyway). they are slowly working up his arms due to the state of his veins. They have taken more blood cultures, some from his groin which he said was very painful. They did an echo and chest x-ray which shows nothing different to last ones day.

if the drip is out, they may let him out for a few hours, but i'm not counting on it anymore tbh, i dont want to be disapointed.
