Mouth ulcers - bonjela and iglu discontinued!

Anyone got any ideas?

I have a pattern of awful canker sores/huge mouth ulcers, which cause a lot of pain. In the past I’ve used bonjela complete plus and iglu gel, but I’ve just run out of my supply and have discovered both have been discontinued!

Any ideas what I can use instead? They were the only things that in any way helped with my pain, so I need a replacement!!

😩

anbesol

Diddykong · 25/06/2023 21:22

Do you know why you get them? They're often a sign of anemia, B12 deficiency and celiac

Polkadotpjs · 25/06/2023 21:23

There's a product called Frador tincture you can get on eBay I think which almost cauterises it. I thoroughly recommend it

BotherThat · 25/06/2023 21:23

Anbesol is great.

EllaRaines · 25/06/2023 21:24

Gargle with salt water taking care not to swallow.

Really swish it all around your mouth and hold in your mouth for several minutes or longer.

Wanttobemorechilliheeler · 25/06/2023 21:24

If it's really bad see your GP. I used to have a paste of prescription. It was gritty and thick, awful stuff but it worked so so well!

justasoul · 25/06/2023 21:24

I get a lot of ulcers (IBD related), I use anbesol, the liquid rather than the gel. Much better than Bonjela IME.

cherryassam · 25/06/2023 21:26

DH gets terrible ones.

he’s also found helpful:
Anbesol adult strength gel
Aloclair plus fast acting mouth ulcer spray

Google is suggesting some online pharmacies still stocking Bonjela Complete Plus, not sure how accurate that is

BettyOBarley · 25/06/2023 21:28

I didn't know they had discontinued Bonjela?! Why is that?!

Orajel is good.

INeedAnotherName · 25/06/2023 21:29

Whoah....what?!!! They can't have discontinued it Shock

BlameItOnTheGoose · 25/06/2023 21:31

Ah sorry to hear you're suffering. Mouth ulcers are just awful.

If the usual lidocaine remedies aren't working, would a salt water rinse & painkiller combo help at all? Or some wine??

It might be worth getting your bloods checked in case there's a deficiency that might be causing this. That said, my DH and DC all suffer with seemingly random ulcers and I put it down to genetics personally

RunMynamethroughyourbed · 25/06/2023 21:34

You can get bonjela next day on Amazon. Not discontinued

Raaasaur · 25/06/2023 21:36

If you can get it, Oralmedic is absolutely FANTASTIC stuff. It’s expensive mind you, but really good.

Greyandwhitecat · 25/06/2023 21:43

Leftfield suggestion but I suffer from mouth ulcers and discovered a life changing product in a Thailand pharmacy called Trinolone Oral Paste which hands down beats anything you can get here (over the counter anyway). The active ingredient is triamcinolone acetonide 1.0mg. I found it online on a thai supermarket website when I got back which I plan to use when I run out - if you can get your hands on it I highly recommend it

LadyTemperance · 25/06/2023 21:45

Just dissolve salt into water and gargle it. Much cheaper and you always have it in. You can do it regularly through the day to begin with and it is really soothing.

RichTeaCheddars · 25/06/2023 22:11

Orajel or anbesol

Why are bonjela and iglu discontinued?

tobee · 25/06/2023 23:07

I use Colgate Peroxyl.

honeyy123 · 25/06/2023 23:16

My mum is always using clove oil when she has a sore tooth she just soaks a cotton but in it and puts it in her mouth n bites down on it although I don't know if you can do this and just the smell of it is so strong I don't know how she does it lol she's old tho must be a back in the day thing maybe TCP I don't know haha

Hearti · 25/06/2023 23:21

Give up gluten. My sores were caused by gluten inhibiting vitamin absorption, so low iron b12 etc

HereComesMaleficent · 25/06/2023 23:32

I just pour neat salt on to mine 😳

I'll warn you the burn and the pain is eye watering, but it only lasts a couple of seconds. It remains numb for a while after too because the slat has but ed all the exposed flesh.

Ulcer clears up within a day or two after it also, which is a bonus.

I fully accept I'm a weirdo for doing this though.

BlossomWood · 25/06/2023 23:38

I used to get terrible ulcers. Many years ago on one of my dentist visits he asked what brand of toothpaste I use as a well known brand are known for causing this reaction in some people. So I switched to sensodyne ans could count on 1 hand how many I've had since then.

saraclara · 25/06/2023 23:50

Ah, just realised it's the Bonjela complete plus that you're after. Sorry

User17865 · 25/06/2023 23:52

Corsodyl Gel gets rid of them fairly quickly for me, doesn’t really help the pain in the meantime though.

User17865 · 25/06/2023 23:53

Mine are hormonal along with bloody migraines. The joys of being female.
