Split skin inside my bum crack

Newladyeveryday · 10/03/2023 19:27

I had some pain around my buttocks for last few days and I couldn’t work out where it is coming from.
I checked in the mirror and noticed that the skin inside my bum crack is split, it has a deep red ridge in there, like a bit of skin it missing.
This gives me excruciating pain when sitting down or immediately when standing up after sitting down.
I tried Sudacream, Fucidin H .
None of them are helping.
There is not any cyst or bump or abscess- only a cracked split skin.
I managed to take picture in a mirror, I don’t want to post it here as tmi, probably would get banned.
Anyone can advice what to do. Thankyou.

Thank you. I will try to get to Sainsburys to get some Dactacort,
I got one here unopened (DHs) but expired 2 yrs ago!

I would try this in the meantime. Especially as unopened.

maddy68 · 11/03/2023 12:33

You'll need some hydrocortisone cream. I get it from time to time

inloveandmarried · 11/03/2023 14:54

I get this periodically. Stings like fury.
GP prescribed heavy steroid cream. I use just enough to get on top of it over about 5 days and that's it. It feels better within 48 hours.

All the other barrier creams don't work and can make it worse.

You don't need much steroid. Just a smear down the crease.

I've had this for about 11 years. Get a crack every 18 months or so.

Newladyeveryday · 11/03/2023 16:22

@inloveandmarried thank you. Would you know what causes the cracks? Looking at the pic I took, it looks like the skin is ripped apart, is it from not drying well after shower then?

I had a very painful split that looked like this under my boob from radiotherapy. They gave me something called Flamazene. I don't know if it's something you can buy or it has to be prescribed but the relief was incredible and it cleared up within a couple of days. Looks so sore OP 😢

I don't really know it's cause, but it's solution is fairly straightforward with the right meds. I use Dermovate ointment which has clobetasol propionate 0.5mg.

It's potent but I'm probably using less that 5mg a year! So it's a relatively tiny amount overall.

Peri menopause did make it worse but I had this before.

GP should be able to prescribe. I find the ointment much more soothing to the open split than the cream but it's harder to get prescribed for some reason.

Sudocm is brilliant for anything

Newladyeveryday · 12/03/2023 08:36

Thanks everyone, still hurts like hell.

Newladyeveryday · 12/03/2023 09:24

Still same, very sore.
I used the Dactacort yesterday and last night sadly I can’t say it helped much.
I took me 10 mins to get up from bed as the pain is all over my buttocks, so sore.
I can’t understand why this small crack causes so much pain!
I asked DH to take another pics, he thinks I’m drama queen as apparently he had the same 500x and never even mentioned it !
I think I should just stand up nonstop as anytime I sit down, it slit opens and hurts like mad..lol

If it’s fungal cream wont instantly fix everything. First thing fungus has to be killed off then the skin has to heal. But go to doc if worried

Brightstar84 · 12/03/2023 11:37

Looks like it’s getting worse and it’s impacting your life so I’d contact 111 and try and see someone at a walk in today

Newladyeveryday · 12/03/2023 14:48

I just read a similar forum with literally same issue/ photo and medical person responded as it’s a moisture lesion, caused by excessive moisture, sweating etc.

in my case it would be not drying myself well after each shower, I found myself few times quickly putting my clothes on only to release that I did not dry myself well and my clothing got wet from this..
It can cause the skin prone to cracking in the folds like bum crack or similar.

Have you tried an athletes foot powder? That would dry the area and clear up any fungal infection you may have got causing the increased pain.

SpottyLip · 12/03/2023 14:52

Proshield Plus promotes moist healing. Keeping that wound moist will prevent it from splitting when you move.

Newladyeveryday · 12/03/2023 14:58

@itsgettingweird I tried Dactacort but that did nothing.
I haven’t try any powder, but thinking I should perhaps, I got Johnson’s baby powder here.
It says in that article that to keep it well dry instead of adding any moisture/ creams as that would make it worse.
what it the powder called?
Im trying anything to avoid go gp atm as I went there last week for something else and the two weeks before for another issue, they will think I make all this up!

I literally had this 2 weeks ago - realised I probably don’t dry there as thoroughly as I should. Dactacort was my go-to, but that didn’t fix it. What did was Metanium cream, which someone mentioned up-thread. It’s usually sold as nappy rash cream.

Wash gently, pat dry (use cool hair drier I needed) then apply a very thin layer of Metanium. It’s very thick and very yellow, and it is just the stuff of miracles. It healed up over the course of about 5 days. I applied a thin layer of cream morning and evening, just sort of dabbing it on, being careful not to drag the skin.

it worked miracles on nappy rash when my kids were babies 20 years ago, and the tube I had dated from that era. Still did the job, though.

And huge sympathy. It’s hellish painful.

Newladyeveryday · 12/03/2023 15:04

@SpottyLip i ordered conotrane cream.

@RobinSong thank you. Did you had in your bum crack like I have on the pic?
The pain is shocking, my whole bottom hurt! I can’t even sit/bend down, it’s like twisting knife in there. I would never believe that something like this can cause so much pain!
I will look into the metanium, i remember I once bought it when my daughter was a baby, however I never used at that time, Sudacream always worked just fine.

Looks like a drying issue I would try a thin layer of sudo cream.

I had this a few years back it was horrible. Really itchy at night and felt awful and the weird bum crack ridge.

A zombie thread on here with a comment by a GP saved me - she said to use a mixture of three things - hydrocortisone ointment which is vv hard to find (cream is easier to find), Epaderm ointment plus Dermol 500 morning and night. It moisturises and gets rid of the bacteria. Also dry well after showering, gentle drying with a hairdryer can work.

Hope that helps, it’s not nice.

Hydrocortisone anything is a total no-no with an open wound, it's only used for eczema. If the latter, keeping the area well greased - not just lubricated - is also important, as is drying it properly. A cool hairdryer setting is good.

lemmein · 12/03/2023 15:13

I second the suggestion of using a cool hair dryer to dry the area rather than towelling dry to avoid irritating it further.

I normally use talc if I have any soreness there - I know you're not supposed to, but sometimes needs must.

Poor you OP, it looks really sore Flowers

Iwantmybed · 12/03/2023 16:05

It's painful OP, I have it every now and again thanks to a surgical scar which causes deep ridges.

The only way I get it to heal is to clean in the shower with soap and water, stings like fuck. Dry the area and tuck a pantyliner or toilet roll in to absorb any moisture. It heals within a day.

Yes. Took me a while to work out what was going on, and some awkward angles with mirrors! It's all clear now, but I am super careful about drying the top of my bum crack now!
