Shiboriamplehips · 23/01/2008 19:11

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 23/01/2008 19:12

its very unlikely, have theys ent her for any tests? is she otherwise fit and healthy?

Shiboriamplehips · 23/01/2008 19:16

shes going for a scan and they will go from there, shes fit

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 23/01/2008 19:18

i really think it is highly unlikely to be anything serious, hopefully someone who knows a bit more will be along soon

lilymolly · 23/01/2008 19:20

prob nothing to worry about. She should have ultrasound and fine needle biopsy asap to ascertain what type of lump it is.
I have a benign lump under my nipple which I have had since I was about 22.
Its harmless and I am sure your dds is too.

Shiboriamplehips · 23/01/2008 19:25

cant help being scared though

OP posts:
lilymolly · 23/01/2008 19:42

oh I know you will be scared. Please try and ensure your daughter is seen asap, to allay your fears.

Shiboriamplehips · 24/01/2008 12:43

The gp was going to phone through and find out wether she should be seen by a paediatrician or adult consultant. We will receive an appt within 8 weeks. Her paternal grandmother died very young, and her dad wont tell me what of

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 24/01/2008 13:11

well if u have an 8 week wait, that means the gp cant be very concerned, surely a good sign?

werewabbit · 24/01/2008 16:38

The vast majority of large palpable lumps that appear suddenly, especially those as big as a golf ball, are cysts and therefore nothing to worry about. I'm a mammographer btw. Obviously, still worth getting it checked out but if it was my daughter I would not be too worried. Hope that helps

werewabbit · 24/01/2008 17:57

Ps - ultrasound is the best modality for confirming it is a cyst or not, that is probably going to be what the doc orders next.

Shiboriamplehips · 24/01/2008 18:26

thanks wererabbit, her lump was gradual at first, and i put it down to hormonal changes as her breasts are growing so fast. Its the "root"behind it thats rattled me.and its got much bigger, thanks,im a bit calmer about it now,im generally fairly pragmatic, but this last year has been awful and im overreacting to everything

OP posts:
Shiboriamplehips · 24/01/2008 18:27

shes having ultrasound first,yes

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 24/01/2008 18:32

Is it because she died of breast cancer and he is scared?

I really hope all is okay but you won't know until the tests are done.

It is no goo0d us second guessing what it might be.

It could be harmless hormones or it could be something more serious.

I really hope you get her seen very quickly.

Good luck.

Shiboriamplehips · 24/01/2008 18:48

she died of cancer of the spleen,he finally told me despite it being a "bloody cheek"...she died when he was a baby and he has no recollection of her,but thats a whole other story

OP posts:
NAB3wishesfor2008 · 24/01/2008 18:52

What? It's a bloody cheek you damanded to know?? Is the 14 year old not his grand child?

dolally · 24/01/2008 18:57

friend of mine had a harmless breast cyst removed at age 17. She's now late 40's and not thing wrong with her.

I think the younger you are the less likely it is to be anything nasty.

understand you can't help worrying but try not to...xxx

summer111 · 24/01/2008 20:53

Rather than having to wait 8 weeks, could you afford to have her seen privately? It might well be worth it as she could be seen very quickly.
The very best of luck

Shiboriamplehips · 25/01/2008 13:13

They just rang, shes being seen in 6 days time by the surgeon, more worried now,as to the apparent urgency on their part.

OP posts:
katwith3kittens · 25/01/2008 13:16

It might be they have a cancelled appointment and not necessarily because its seen as being more sinister. This can sometimes happen. Good luck x

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 25/01/2008 13:21

Let us know how it goes.

I had a breast scan when I was 12 weeks pg after the GP had agreed I had found a lump. I scared myself witless but it was okay in the end.

Good luck.

Shiboriamplehips · 25/01/2008 13:36

thanks, its her dad who was grumbling about telling me how her nan died, not her grandad by the way,hes a pompous little shit with a block of ice where his heart should be.

OP posts:
NAB3wishesfor2008 · 25/01/2008 14:00
Sad
Shiboriamplehips · 25/01/2008 14:05

its the root behind it thats scaring the shit out of me

OP posts:
dolally · 25/01/2008 14:11

shib, have you asked the gp/consultant if the "root" behind is significant?

...tho I suppose he/she would probably not be willing to speculate, docs like to deal only in facts, don't they?

Just wish they could put your mind at rest a little.

Sorry dd's dad is such a pillock.
