Oh god im scared..shes had a lump in her nipple for a while,gp examined her and it goes back a long way and will need surgery. What if its malignant?

thinking of you Shib!
Can they just take it out w/o biopsy first? I always think that biopsy could potentially contribute to spreading?

Is she still showing any autoimmune antibodies? Make sure that they do comprehensive blood tests if offered.

Shiboriamplehips · 01/02/2008 13:52

Her nipple shape is distorted and the lump is 2"s across. No bloods were done unfortunately, her white cell count may have shed some light...or not....decision re biopsy was made on the basis that it needs to come out anyway,so biopsy lump, not stick a needle in it too.
Need to know if vascular supply truly serious,or just rare...NEED to know!

Can any of the breast care charities give you more info on the possibilities, Shiboriamplehips? Thinking of you.

Elibean · 01/02/2008 17:24

Can only imagine how worrying this time is for you...and as you say, the only real solution for the worry is the word 'benign'.

Personally, I tend to deal with not knowing by preparing for the worst - and can't do otherwise, no matter what people say - so am not going to tell you to feel anything that what you feel. Just wanted to add my thoughts, and the info that many benign tumours DO have vascular supply (eg lipomas) so hang in there. As if you can do anything else, but YKWIM. xxx

Elibean · 01/02/2008 17:26

BTW, I think some lipomas don't but it is possible - in case that was confusing. I googled it for you.

Shiboriamplehips · 02/02/2008 12:51

im coping by CLEANING!!!one thing i CAN control,is dirt and clutter.
Thanks Elibean, really helpful,a glimmer of hope in the midst of extreme black panic.

OP posts:
Elibean · 02/02/2008 13:53

Wish I could control dirt and clutter with any measure of confidence

You poor love, what a nightmare. Big hugs to you, and definitely there are lots of benign possibilities. Hemangiomas are vascular benign tumours too - there you are, thought of another one and I'm in no way a medic.

Will be thinking of you and dd.

Shiboriamplehips · 02/02/2008 18:18

Thanks Elibean.you are a pet,it is a nightmare.
as to controlling dirt and clutter, didnt finish the job

((shib)) FWIW, I've always found the weekends worst when it comes to waiting for test results. Maybe because everything closes down, or everyone is unavailable - not rational, IYSWIM, but somehow a very powerless-feeling time.

Time will pass, this is probably the worst time - not knowing whether there's anything to worry about or not, and not being able to DO anything. When do you expect news?

Shiboriamplehips · 03/02/2008 17:34

ages,a week and a half POSt surgery on Friday

OP posts:
mummylin2495 · 03/02/2008 22:06

i do hope that things dont turn out as bleak as you think they may be.I can understand you not being able to concentrate o things at the moment ,are you sleeping ok ?

Elibean · 03/02/2008 22:16

a week and a half? I hope you ARE sleeping, or you'll be soo exhausted by then...goodness.

I'll be away from Thursday, so won't know how it goes but will be thinking of you on Friday and check in when I get back in couple of weeks. Take good care of yourself Shib, am sure you're taking more than good care of your dd already

Shiboriamplehips · 04/02/2008 11:29

im not sleeping well,if i drink enough and take herbal sleepers,i can conk out,but i wake up in the middle of the night, and am fitful etc from there on,the nights drag on forever, the demons are more real at 4 am.The consultants secretary phoned up,shes to have a preop assessment on thursday. Her dads said he will come up,she wants him there.
Thanks girls, really helps to talk on here, half the family dont know because they will panic,my mum keeps telling me she will be FINE because they can perform MIRACLES these days, she means well, but im not 12 anymore

Shiboriamplehips · 04/02/2008 11:30

OP posts:
Shiboriamplehips · 04/02/2008 11:31

OP posts:
mummylin2495 · 04/02/2008 15:29

.Would your doc give you anthing to help you sleep?I can imagine that in the middle of the night, everything seeems so much more terrifying.I too would be the same as you are and i will not tell you not to worry .How can you help it.But what I will say is that i hope its the best possible outcome for your dd.I can perfectly well understand your worry and wish you didnt have to wait so long for any results.I hope it may bring you a bit of comfort to know that others are thinking of you and your dd at this time.

nightcat · 04/02/2008 19:09

Shib.., maybe try to look at ways to support her immune system, there is lots of sensible healthy advice around and it might give you something positive to think about.

Don't need to answer, when she had autoimmune condition, was she taking any immunosuppressants? Is she still taking anything now that may have affected her health?

Whether she needs much treatment or not, there is a lot of good advice that would help you to get her through this: books by Jane Plant or Jan de Vries spring to mind. They are not alternative, they have a lot of advice that you can use alongside standard treatment. There is also Dove Clinic.

You need to be well informed from all angles to give her best support possible, don't be afraid to find out all you can, knowledge is power, you know.

mummylin2495 · 06/02/2008 11:59

im just checking to see how you are .Wishing dd best of luck for friday.

Im struggling, drinking way too much and not sleeping still,we have been in for pre-op assessment to day,its a lovely hospital, got to wait for results from histology, dont know what that means...ive read all i can about it,and there are no answers until diagnosis.another week and a half to go...
Its such a rollercoaster, like an out of body experience.Im suffering awful dizzy spells, feel like im falling when i lean over, its a bit like being on a ferry, but on a calm sea, gentle undulations that feel really weird..thanks for support everybody, most of my friends are clueless as to what to say or do,so arent saying or doing anything on the whole

OP posts:
mummylin2495 · 07/02/2008 20:14

it must be like a living nightmare for you at the moment an im not surprised you are getting all these side affects ,its probably all stress related.Hopefully it wont be as a bad as you fear then you will improve in your own health too.You must take care of yourself.Make sure you eat even if you dont feel like it.You have to be strong for your daughter.Thinking of you.

anorak · 07/02/2008 20:31

I'm thinking of you every day.

Have you tried Kalms? They really work well for me when I am anxious.
