For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

penguin book mug if there is a pertinent title and yogi tea

FrannyandZooey · 02/02/2008 09:01

circus tickets
knickerbocker glory making set (buy some of those tall glasses and long spoons, then fill bag with things like chocolate sprinkles and squeezy toppings and things)
ridiculous frou frou flip flops

I think 30th presents should be entertaining

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:06

EllieG · 02/02/2008 10:09

This is the vegetable thread right? Sorry for crashing but had a question - do lentils count as part of your 5 a day? They seem sort of vegetable-ish to me but was not sure.

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:12
  1. I am getting fitter
  1. I feel better, immune system stronger
  1. I am toning up
  1. It encourages me to eat more heathily
  1. It gets me out of the house at a stressful time, ie. 6-7
  1. I do it with my friend so we chat [and gasp]
  1. I can feel my behind is very grateful
  1. All the other runners wave, tis like a parallel universe.
  1. My moood has improved and I feel less irritable
  1. There is a high for a good hour afterwards.

I did used to run a lot once upon a time but I stopped because of my knees but this time I will master it.

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 10:12

hi ellie i dont know

i suspect not but i am usually wrong

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:12

EllieG - yes, pulses do count as a portion.

ZippiBabes · 02/02/2008 10:14

lol i knew that would be the answer

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:14

hi ellie

I count pulses as one portion regardless of the amount - same with juice.

we do rarely normally talk about healthy eating.

fullmoonfiend · 02/02/2008 10:14

Welcome EllieG, lentils do count as they are a pulse, along with beans etc. But no mstter how many you eat, still only counts as one portion...!
Are you going to stick around?
