For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

but they only count as one portion regardless of how much you eat, like juice really.

That list was for BBBee by the way not smuggery.

fullmoonfiend · 02/02/2008 10:14

Bah, too slow!

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:15

mrs carrot - how do you do the timing?

podcast?

how long before you noticed benefits?

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:15

lol at all of us with the 'only one portion', we have drummed it in well

EllieG · 02/02/2008 10:15

Great, thanks ladies!

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:17

ellie 'regardless of amount' means you eat loads and count as one, not you can eat one kidney bean and it counts as one!

I count baked beans as one.

EllieG · 02/02/2008 10:17

But what if I crushed 5 apple and made them into juice? Would they still only count as one portion then? I am very confused.

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:18

oh look at us all jumping up and down to help and impart knowledge. We have become a little brainwashed in the virtues of fruit and veg!

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:18

bbbEEE - I am not doing the podcast as I am running with a friend. So far we have not timed, we have run as far as we can and then a bit further then we walk for a minute or two then start again. I have noticed I am quite dragon-like with my friend. WE CAN MAKE THE LIGHTS.

We are going to start timing though but I think we are roughly following the podcast. I felt better after the first run tbh, the next time was easier nd I have noticed being fitter in my walking too.

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:18

yes ellie they would still be one portion as you are getting vitamins but cutting out all the fibre and the fibre is very imprtnat.

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:19

juice only one portion regardless because once it's juiced it has less fibre

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:20

thank you carrot.

okay will start tomorrow.

can you post onm your running thread so it comes in to active convos and I will join you.

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:20

lol x posts

aand juice is a great big blast of sugar, not slow release like fruit

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:21

are you really going to start, BBBEE? Hooray!

Are you coming for tea btw?

MrsCarrot · 02/02/2008 10:22

BBBee

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:23

oh yes - thanks for text and all. cannot do tea as have booked to go on farm outdoors type day that day.

shame.

MissCreant · 02/02/2008 10:28

Yes, shame, you and boco wanted a child free champgne meet up too. Oh, well, we will have to do it again. I think we could manage it.

lullabyloo · 02/02/2008 10:30

how about veg juice?

MissCreant · 02/02/2008 10:34

um

BBBee · 02/02/2008 10:35

veg juice or fruit juice still one portion as fibre is crucial bluffing in franny's absence
