I referred to hospital Today by my Gp. I’ve had a UTI that’s been stubborn and been feeling awful.

went to hospital today and they said it’s cleared.

anyway tonight my bladder feels like it’s in spasms. I’m in agony. I’ve got burning sensations down my arms and legs and I can’t make a fist with my hands when the burning is at it worst.

my stomach is in agony.

what is wrong with me? My bloods were all normal today and I had a bladder scan which looked ok.

im exhausted and terrified

I ended up in hospital for a week with a severe kidney infection, my urine also came back clear and my symptoms were not dissimilar to yours. By the time I arrived at hospital I was borderline septic. Hope you get sorted asap op.

Sallyssn · 12/07/2022 22:28

Don't waste your time on 111 call.
Go to A and E.
Good luck. x

Don’t know if this is helfpful OP but I was diagnosed with this:

https://www.kidney.org.uk/loin-pain-haematuria-syndrome

Pain, blood in urine (and protein in my case) but no sign of UTI. Treatment is long course of antibiotics as one causes may be long term mild UTIs that fly under the radar.

ThreeLocusts · 13/07/2022 00:35

OP just a handhold. It sounds scary, your level of discomfort and the go-to explanation ruled out for the moment.

Hang in there - and while you may not want to make a drama, don't let them dismiss you. It's crap having to insist on having your pain taken seriously when that should be routine, but that's where we're at. Good luck!

HoppingPavlova · 13/07/2022 02:29

they’re not taking me seriously though

They likely are. Worked in A&E for a long time and just because you face a substantial wait doesn’t mean you are not being taken seriously. It’s not all about pain either, the triage system doesn’t work like this. Someone not in pain may be prioritised over you for a number of factors.

The good thing about sitting in A&E is that if you deteriorate (that doesn’t mean complain a lot), it means clinically deteriorate you do get bumped up.

If you are still there, start crying and shouting in pain. I tore a muscle in the shoulder (didn't know that at the time), couldn't move my head or neck, my arm had swollen up and I couldn't feel my hand, but was ignored for hours until I got very loud, and then they rushed me through. It's shocking how little medical professionals care about women and our pain

🙄

you weren’t ‘being ignored’, you were in a queue of people and those going before you were deemed to be more in critical need of medical care than you. How utterly selfish of you. You’re everything that is wrong with society.

Exactly
In April i went to GP who sent me straight to A&E. I walked in but was like a zombie, having not eaten for days and constantly slept . Went through triage, sat for 10 minutes when i got called and told there was a bed for me in resus. Was in resus for a 12 hours and then admitted for a week.Definitely didnt have the energy to make a fuss.

limitedperiodonly · 13/07/2022 06:19

I'm not sure she's everything wrong with society @DangerouslyBored. I mean, there's quite a bit wrong with society - human traffickers, Jacob Rees Mogg, people who put food waste in the recycling - that we can't lay at the door of people making a fuss in A&E. That would be exaggerating, wouldn't it? That's quite annoying in itself but again I'd argue that it was not a major contribution to the breakdown of society. Also I imagine hospital staff are good at working out who needs attention and who's just saying silly things.

Exactly this A man was brought in by his daughter about three hours after my DH, an hour later the man deteriorated, he slumped forward and was very pale, breathing was erratic, the daughter got up to knock on the door of triage but the receptionist had already noticed he was in trouble and had called for help.

Bloodyel · 13/07/2022 08:04

Now I'm not saying it's definitely this as of course it could be all sorts of things, but I had very similar symptoms when I had untreated coeliac disease and it got out of control. I'd had some symptoms for years before and never been taken seriously. When I cut out gluten I was fine within a few months. But it could be lots of other things too so I'd just be really forceful with the doctors and emphasise how these issues have come on quickly and are affecting you seriously.

With my coleiac issues they never helped me and i had to figure it out on my own though.

riesenrad · 13/07/2022 08:28

@DangerouslyBored really? How is that comment helpful?

Anyway lets see you be selfless and loving the next time you are in major pain and don't know why Angry

Scianel · 13/07/2022 08:37

@Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak can you tell me what antibiotics you've taken so far?
Nitrofurantoin and especially ciprofloxacin can cause nerve damage which would manifest as burning and difficulty making a fist.

ladydoris · 13/07/2022 08:51

Hope you are all right OP. Hand holding still.

JamieNorthlife · 13/07/2022 16:15

OP, I hope you are alright and were seen and treated.

whatwasIgoingtosay · 13/07/2022 16:35

Just wondering why this thread is still on the front page of 'trending' when there are plenty of other threads with many more posts, and more recent, too. Anyone know how the algorithm works?

SoloCat · 13/07/2022 16:36

The NHS use the term “interstitial cystitis” to cover a broad spectrum of bladder issues, that are a lot of the time embedded UTI’s. The NICE guidelines will not allow long term antibiotics to treat these UTI’s leaving many women in horrendous situations of pain and misery for years. I was diagnosed with IC and ended up on huge amounts of morphine, surgeries and immense pain…I would not want anyone to go through this…14 years in my case!
I ended up at a private practice dealing with this exact problem and have been able to take long term antibiotics which has given me the majority of my life back.
I feel the OP’s pain and hope it turns out something that can be dealt with…Interstitial cystitis is not a diagnosis you want to settle on!

This happens when a thread is about to get interesting. Stay put!

Jacopo · 13/07/2022 20:01

How can the algorithm know that’s it’s about to get interesting? The OP could be in a coma for all we know. How would the algorithm know any more than we do?
(obviously I hope the OP is fully recovered and having a nice evening with chocolate, tv, etc.

I imagine it's counting views rather than posts, and a lot of people are clicking to see if the OP has been able to update.

I hope she is OK.

A&Es everywhere are in crisis. My DF was sent to A&E by the GP on Monday, with a suspected heart attack, after phoning cardiology for advice. He was 'medically expected'. We arrived at ,7.30pm, waited 45 minutes in the queue outside A&E before they reached him, so his time of arrival was recorded as 8.15pm. Then we waited 90 minutes in the queue of 'booked in people'. A&E was completely full, so it was one in, one out, with cleaning in between.

He had an ECG and bloods at 10pm, then got shifted around various areas of A&E on a trolley ('Hot' to cold when his PCR came back negative), then to Medical Same Day emergency.

7½ hours after arriving, a doctor came to apologise. DF had accidentally been put on the bottom of a list, then when a nurse alerted them that he'd been waiting so long, they went to a different man with the same name.

The doctor said his ECG was ok (reckoned the nurse at the GP practice had put a couple of leads on wrong), but to be safe they needed to repeat his bloods. Then he was moved again. 2½ hours later (10 hours after arrival) he was told he was ok and could leave.

That’s terrible, I’m sure that you were already dreadfully worried…then all of that happened!
A&Ei is so overwhelmed, people can’t get seen by a GP, so all turning up in A&E as a last resort and it’s just clogging the system. I feel for A&E staff.
Glad your DF was ok in the end.

Lougle · 14/07/2022 07:06

The poor A&E staff were in chaos. So busy that they were getting confused as to who they had put where. HCAs putting medical details on forms but not having the training to know which patients needed to be seen soonest, so the triage nurse having to check all the forms and telling them to get more detail about x, y, z, as well as trying to place people in A&E.

@Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak I hope you have been seen now and are starting to feel better.

Thinkingblonde · 14/07/2022 07:38

I Dialled 999 for an ambulance and was put in a queue. ‘Ambulance service is experiencing a large number of calls , you are caller no. 3
I couldn’t believe it. On hold for approximately two or three minutes, felt longer But to be fair the operator kept cutting in at short intervals in to ask if the patient was still breathing, has his condition worsened. I expect if he had worsened she’d have bumped us to the top. She must have been able to hear me as I spoke to DH to reassure him help was on its way, , she cut in to ask if he was distressed. He wasn’t upset, just in a lot of pain.
