I referred to hospital Today by my Gp. I’ve had a UTI that’s been stubborn and been feeling awful.

went to hospital today and they said it’s cleared.

anyway tonight my bladder feels like it’s in spasms. I’m in agony. I’ve got burning sensations down my arms and legs and I can’t make a fist with my hands when the burning is at it worst.

my stomach is in agony.

what is wrong with me? My bloods were all normal today and I had a bladder scan which looked ok.

im exhausted and terrified

Get going woman! Get going! And let us know what happens.

Nat6999 · 12/07/2022 02:28

We're you given Nitrofuarantin when you first started with the uti? The sensations in your hands can be a neurotoxicity reaction to the drug. It can poison your nervous system, I started with burning pain in my feet which I thought was arthritis but gradually I lost all sensation in my feet & legs. The doctors all deny that Nitrofuarantin could have caused this but during the last course I took my lips & fingers went numb & the moment I stopped taking it the numbness wore off. The sensation in your bladder is the infection & your bladder spasming to try to expel all the urine, get yourself to hospital & tell them about the sensations in your hands & legs.

@Crumpleton whats that?

Pretty sure it's where a UTI has gotten into the walls of the bladder and can be hard to pick up just by dipping the stick Into a urine sample. A long course of antibiotics will be needed to shift it.

I think my mum had this and the urologist told her if didn't clear he'd need to go in to get a sample straight from the bladder. Fortunately it hasn't come to that yet but it's one after the other with different bacteria.

yzed · 12/07/2022 02:39

I don't know where you are geographically, but where I live, don't waste time with 111. This isn't a minor matter. Get yourself to A&E right away. If you can ask someone to drive you, or walk or take a taxi, otherwise call an ambulance. But Get There.
Ask again what's wrong with you, I'm happy to answer once you've given details at Reception and are sitting waiting for triage nurse. It's not that bad. Yet!!

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 02:47

The OP already's on the way to A&E! Go on, tell us!

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 02:48

The Op's already's... I need to go to bed too!

ladydoris · 12/07/2022 02:51

Hope you get sorted soon op.

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 02:54

@yzed Go on tell us, you know you want to. 😘

It's not nice. I was the queen of UTIs but since I've been on topical HRT they (whispers with 🤞) seem to have calmed down.

Turtletotem · 12/07/2022 02:55

When I've had cystitis really bad I've my arms and legs hurt. Keep the sachets in the house now just in case.

yzed · 12/07/2022 02:55

Many thanks Oceanus for letting me know. I was really worrying OP would delay until she was in so much pain she'd collaps and ...

Sorry if I sounded like I know exactly what's wrong with her, but she seemed set on knowing what it was before taking proper action. All I know is she's got something in her lower torso area that's causing her agony, following a definite UTI. Could be a number of things, but it needs seeing by a doctor.

I really hope Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak that you'll come back and let us know how you got on. Flowers DaffodilDaffodil Flowers

@yzed

please just tell me what you think it is.

im not physically or mentally strong enough for games

LilacPoppy · 12/07/2022 03:01

Nobody is playing games but neither can we diagnose you. Please go to A and E .

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 03:04

@Crumpleton My mum's not on HRT but she does take quite a few things for ostheoporosis and one of them is pretty heavy stuff with nasty secondary effects. I feel like her UTIs are every other month now. They're such a bloody pain in the bladder and it's a different (and peculiar) bug every single time. Now the GP sends her urine straight off to the lab to be cultivated.
I wonder if yzed thinks it's the onset of sepsis...!🤔
Guys I have to go! Keep the OP going strong while she waits, if she comes back!

I have to go but I'm sending you hugs and wishing you the best! 💐

mamakoukla · 12/07/2022 03:13

Hope you get seen quickly and they can help you resolve this

yzed · 12/07/2022 03:20

Hi Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak,
are you sitting comfortably in A&E?

ichifanny · 12/07/2022 03:24

Hi op you didn’t say what kind of scan you had but it could be kidney stones .

Hatsoff5 · 12/07/2022 03:26

Are you currently I'm A&E? 111 will be a waste of time if your in agony. Hope you get sorted.

DaftyLass · 12/07/2022 03:28

I hope you are at the hospital being seen now, and hope you are feeling better soon

PlantSpider · 12/07/2022 03:33

It makes me really angry when women are dismissed as not having a UTI when a urine dip is ‘clear’ as though that’s the end of the matter. It very often still is a UTI and often one that’s getting a good hold. And if it’s not a UTI then they need to come up with an alternative diagnosis. This ‘all clear’ thing and sending you home with the same problem you presented with is really bad. Anyway OP, I hope you’re getting appropriate treatment now.

DahliaBlooming · 12/07/2022 03:34

For goodness sake don't try to get random people to diagnose you over the internet! You have no idea who anyone is and what their motivations might be.

Hope you get to see a doctor in A&E very soon

yzed · 12/07/2022 03:38

Hi again Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak,
I've reread your OP again, and I see that you were definitely asking what's wrong with you, not for advice.
However, people with some experience of your area of pain chose to make suggestions, as they (or some of them) were aware of the potential harm that can come to you if you delay action.
It then seemed that you were either on the verge of going to A&E or spending time with 111. But you were very frightened about what it might be, and kept asking.
At that point I felt that the priority was for you to get yourself to A&E to be seen by a qualified medic. I still do. I didn't want to say or do anything that might delay you. The NHS has some of the most amazing advanced diagnostic equipment, and can literally "see" inside your body to discover what's going on. Compared to a group of Mumsnetters sitting on their sofas miles away from you ... well for me there was no contest.
I really hope you'll get back to us and tell us how things are going. First of all that you are at A&E, and later what they decide you have. I'm hoping it's something very minor and barely needs anything done. But whatever it is it'll better off being treated sooner rather than later.
Good Luck, and I really hope it turns out to be a storm in a teacup.
