I referred to hospital Today by my Gp. I’ve had a UTI that’s been stubborn and been feeling awful.

went to hospital today and they said it’s cleared.

anyway tonight my bladder feels like it’s in spasms. I’m in agony. I’ve got burning sensations down my arms and legs and I can’t make a fist with my hands when the burning is at it worst.

my stomach is in agony.

what is wrong with me? My bloods were all normal today and I had a bladder scan which looked ok.

im exhausted and terrified

@tillytown
unbelievable

Could be urosepsis. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK482344/#:~:text=Urosepsis%20is%20sepsis%20caused%20by,originate%20from%20the%20urogenital%20tract

They really should be taking it more seriously.

Please get a broth culture done here once you're out.

The NHS testing is outdated, comes from 1979 and even the man who invented the dipstick test said it wasn't worthy of diagnosisng all infections.

Only small amounts of bacteria left behind can be enough to give symptoms and give rise to urosepsis.

All the best and do let us know how you are once you're OK to be up and about again.

greatblueheron · 12/07/2022 16:37

Hope you're ok, OP

Mum233 · 12/07/2022 17:07

Kidney stones possibly? My husband was sick with pain when he had them.

I can get a pee sample but it’s already been checked and is negative

I’ve had many, very serious ones and sometimes they don’t show up, might need cultures or microbiology but hopefully you have already been to hospital x

Hi again Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak,
I've reread your OP again, and I see that you were definitely asking what's wrong with you, not for advice.
However, people with some experience of your area of pain chose to make suggestions, as they (or some of them) were aware of the potential harm that can come to you if you delay action.
It then seemed that you were either on the verge of going to A&E or spending time with 111. But you were very frightened about what it might be, and kept asking.
At that point I felt that the priority was for you to get yourself to A&E to be seen by a qualified medic. I still do. I didn't want to say or do anything that might delay you. The NHS has some of the most amazing advanced diagnostic equipment, and can literally "see" inside your body to discover what's going on. Compared to a group of Mumsnetters sitting on their sofas miles away from you ... well for me there was no contest.
I really hope you'll get back to us and tell us how things are going. First of all that you are at A&E, and later what they decide you have. I'm hoping it's something very minor and barely needs anything done. But whatever it is it'll better off being treated sooner rather than later.
Good Luck, and I really hope it turns out to be a storm in a teacup.

👏

SaintHelena · 12/07/2022 17:54

Could it be a prolapsed uterus? I've no experience but pressure on bladder it might be something to rule out.

Heistonabike · 12/07/2022 17:54

I had the burning arms and legs with appendicitis. The nurses were trying to put a tourniquet on me to insert a cannula and it felt like my arm was going to explode. A weird tingling and painful burning sensation. The doctors told me it was a panic attack, but I wonder if its a side effect of infection?

WonderingWanda · 12/07/2022 18:15

A relative got sent home several times being told he was having lanic attacks and it was in fact Gallstones.

Km06 · 12/07/2022 18:27

I really hope you get answers and pain relief soon

It makes me really angry when women are dismissed as not having a UTI when a urine dip is ‘clear’ as though that’s the end of the matter. It very often still is a UTI and often one that’s getting a good hold. And if it’s not a UTI then they need to come up with an alternative diagnosis. This ‘all clear’ thing and sending you home with the same problem you presented with is really bad. Anyway OP, I hope you’re getting appropriate treatment now.

My friend hasnt been dismissed. Her urine is now clear of infection, but blood has been detected. She has been put on the 2 week fast track, just waiting for appointment

ladydoris · 12/07/2022 18:42

Gobsmacked.

Trixiefirecracker · 12/07/2022 19:27

It’s bonkers in A and E at the moment. All the stupid people who have sat out in the sun too long we’re at ours.

Trixiefirecracker · 12/07/2022 19:28

*were!

Minfilia · 12/07/2022 19:42

A friend of mine had similar and she was ignored by her GP too. She was then low priority in A&E. She actually had an ectopic pregnancy and her tube burst, causing internal bleeding and very low blood pressure which could have killed her!

I hope you have been seen by now!

tillytown · 12/07/2022 20:21

pigcon1 what's unbelievable is someone with an actual emergency waiting for 9 hours and being ignored whilst drunk men with minor injuries were being seen within the hour.
Hope you have been seen now OP

GetThatHelmetOn · 12/07/2022 20:27

Another one hoping they are taking good care of you. I have been in a similar situation being bounced repeatedly between the GP and A&E. At the end the GP gave me antibiotics to keep at home so things wouldn’t get worse while I was waiting for an appointment for weeks if it recurred.

Hope you have been seen already and are more comfortable.

MrsPerfect12 · 12/07/2022 20:36

I hope you're feeling a bit better @Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak and have been seen.

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 20:44

Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak · 12/07/2022 14:01

Still waiting.

they’re not taking me seriously though

Hi OP, I missed for a few minutes earlier! How are you? I hope they've given you the good stuff for making you wait so long and that you got to see flying unicorns and fairies! Haha! Jokes aside, what I really hope is that you at least know what you have and that you're feeling better. Our anatomy works against us when it comes to bloody UTIs, men are very lucky in this aspect!

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 20:51

Having read this thread all I can say is bloody heck! Females don't have it easy with their anatomy, do we!? Wow and this right here is a prime example why doctors study for so many years. So many with similar symptoms and so many different diagnosis! It ain't easy having a vagina! 😖😟

2Hot2Handle · 12/07/2022 20:56

Have you been seen? Has anyone suggested sepsis? Read up on it and untreated UTIs can lead to that.

quietnightmare · 12/07/2022 21:06

Hope you are ok

MyGiddyAunt1 · 12/07/2022 21:51

Have they seen you yet?

MixedCouple · 12/07/2022 21:56

Radiographer here - what diagboatica dis they use? Dod they do FAST uktrasound to check your heart - Liver - Kidneys and Bladder?
It is possible the UTI has travelled up into the Kidneys. You could also have Kidney stones? There are lots of possible. Did they give you pain meds? Side affects. So many possibilities.

But take yourself back to A&E it doesn't aound likw they checked for everything?
Blood work will show infection but won't show obstruction etc. So explain carefully what you are feeling and where exactly and ask for further diagnostics amd if they can keep you in for obs.

listsandbudgets · 12/07/2022 21:56

Hello OP, I saw your post earlier but didn't have time to reply. I really hope you've been seen and treated by now.

I had an horrendous UTI recently complete with red wine colour urine..The Good people of mumsnet told me that no it wasn't a good idea to wait and off to A and E I must go.. they were right of course. My wait wasn't so bad though but thought they were about to dismiss me.. they they saw my dark red urine!

Anyway you sound far more miserable than I was and I'm so sorry you've been having such an appalling time. I hope you are now somewhere more comfortable than the waiting room and being properly looked after.
