I referred to hospital Today by my Gp. I’ve had a UTI that’s been stubborn and been feeling awful.

went to hospital today and they said it’s cleared.

anyway tonight my bladder feels like it’s in spasms. I’m in agony. I’ve got burning sensations down my arms and legs and I can’t make a fist with my hands when the burning is at it worst.

my stomach is in agony.

what is wrong with me? My bloods were all normal today and I had a bladder scan which looked ok.

im exhausted and terrified

Hi OP
I have had so many lonely scared nights because of UTIs.
Firstly, the urine dip/ culture is notoriously inaccurate. They shouldn’t use it imo. If you have classic cystitis symptoms, you have a UTI.
Things that have helped me:
Antibiotics but insist on at least a week. 3 days will leave you worse off.
Hiprex
D Mannose
Drinking loads of water and never holding on to go for a wee
Once you are peri menopausal, vaginal oestrogen is essential

Hope you get seen quickly and all is ok.

I went up and it’s a 10 hour wait.

i don’t feel well enough to sit there for 10
hours. I’m terrified and have no idea what to do

OP posts:
justfiveminutes · 12/07/2022 05:04

Sit there for 10 hours. It must be better than sitting at home for ten hours surely, by yourself and frightened.

3luckystars · 12/07/2022 05:12

The lab results can take a few days and also, antibiotics can interfere with results.

common things are common.

you still have a uti and have been ‘fobbed off’.

I know you are ill, but you have to go back and fight now for treatment for your uti.

being confused and scared can be symptoms of a kidney infection. Go to hospital now. Goo luck x

3luckystars · 12/07/2022 05:12

You have to wait.

you have to wait.

you have to wait.

3luckystars · 12/07/2022 05:15

Sorry I first posted before I realised you are in hospital.

you have to wait however long it takes, because if you go home, you will have to start all over again.

you have a uti that hasn’t cleared and are very unwell. You have to wait. We will wait with you.

yzed · 12/07/2022 05:31

So, without telling us anything that you feel is too private, what did the triage nurse say?

AlmostAJillSandwich · 12/07/2022 05:33

Handhold, I've had UTI's where i've bordered on suicidal they were so bad (combined with MH issues) hope you get some relief soon.

Yerroblemom1923 · 12/07/2022 05:40

Phone your doctor first thing if you're not prepared to wait.

FiveShelties · 12/07/2022 05:41

Did you go and are now back at home?

TroysMammy · 12/07/2022 06:03

Stay there. If you leave and ring your GP they could tell you to go to A&E and there isn't a fast track system. Even if you are sent to an acute GP department in the hospital you'll still have to wait.

Bickles · 12/07/2022 06:09

I would stay too, although it will be a miserable wait. I’m sorry the NHS is so broken.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/07/2022 06:22

OP stay there. You're going to be waiting ten hours somewhere, might as well do it where you're guaranteed to get seen at the end.

Darbs76 · 12/07/2022 06:29

I agree you need to stay. What are you going to do if you go home? See your GP who will tell you to go to A&E. Good luck OP. They might end up putting you through faster if they see you struggling in the waiting area. That’s happened to me when I went in with acute pancreatitis

HappyDays40 · 12/07/2022 06:59

OP hope you are okay but it's not for an Internet forum to diagnose you, you are obviously in pain and feeling anxious but you are in the right place for qualified medical help.

Zonder · 12/07/2022 07:00

You will be in agony waiting for 10 hours whether you stay or not. If you go home you won't get the help you need. At least if you'd stay you will eventually.

Hope you get seen soon.

Sunnysideup999 · 12/07/2022 07:04

I have experienced similar recently with a 12 hour wait in a and E which made me feel much much worse.
I had clear bloods and urine after a urine infection - but my bladder was very inflamed and irritated it took a long time to settle. It was agony though.
can you take pain medication and go back to gp?
it almost sounds neurological with the nerve pain, so they need to investigate that.
long term - try d mannose , pro biotic, cranberry extract, no caffeine or alcohol, lemon barley water and drink at least 2 litres of water a day
I would also ask to be referred to a urologist as they might need to take biopsy’s of your bladder ( not nice but essential for a diagnosis - which you need).

Thinkingblonde · 12/07/2022 07:06

I had this and it was a kidney stone stuck in my left urethra ( the pipe from kidney to bladder.)

Thinkingblonde · 12/07/2022 07:14

Don’t go home, stay there.

Herejustforthisone · 12/07/2022 07:15

A few posters on this have been weird, I forget how much some seem to relish another person’s discomfort and actually get excited about their eventual diagnosis.

OP, phone the GP first thing or if the pain is unbearable, call an ambulance.

Tyrtle · 12/07/2022 07:39

I have a similar burning pain with endometriosis. I didn’t have any of the other usual symptoms so it took a while (and a laparoscopy) to diagnose. It was on my bladder but externally (ligaments etc).

JinglingHellsBells · 12/07/2022 07:40

You could have interstitial cystitis which is also known as Painful Bladder Syndrome. (look it up online.) This needs diagnosis through a uro or a gynae.

It feels like an infection but it inflammation.

Treatment is meds, changing your diet (no spicy foods, booze, tea, coffee, acidic juices etc) Drink only water for a while.

Meanwhile, take the pain and burning away with paracetamol and half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a large glass of water.

Greenstar22 · 12/07/2022 07:45

Sounds like a kidney stone, I had one stuck. Uti test negative and sent home but later that day I had to go back and stay in with morphine for the pain. I was pregnant and it was the most horrendous pain. I would drink lots and lots of water whatever it is if its bladder/ kidney related and definitely wait to be seen

Backwards31 · 12/07/2022 07:51

OP I hav a bladder condition called interstitial cystitis. I was diagnosed with it 3 years ago and it took over two years to diagnose. I had all the classic UTI symptoms but clear urines. It took me going private to get a rigid cystoscopy to confirm my diagnosis. I am now on so much medication and I have bi weekly treatments into my bladder called cystostat that have helped massively. Like you I was put on antibiotics and nothing worked. I am 35 and it came out of the blue one day and just never left. I hope you ok I know all to well what it's like to have incredible pain in your bladder 😭. Don't leave the hospital you need to stay and insist on having tests done until you get a diagnosis. Also kidney stones is something to be checked also as when they are passing they are v painful and can cause symptoms like urge to pee and nothing coming etc

YesIKnowIABUbutIamreallytired · 12/07/2022 07:56

Had an almost identical experience, have sent you a pm
