I referred to hospital Today by my Gp. I’ve had a UTI that’s been stubborn and been feeling awful.

went to hospital today and they said it’s cleared.

anyway tonight my bladder feels like it’s in spasms. I’m in agony. I’ve got burning sensations down my arms and legs and I can’t make a fist with my hands when the burning is at it worst.

my stomach is in agony.

what is wrong with me? My bloods were all normal today and I had a bladder scan which looked ok.

im exhausted and terrified

We’re you taking Cipro or any other fluoroquinolone antibiotic for the uti? Google the term “floxed” and see if the symptoms you have fit with that. I had burning and severe pain in hand, arms, feet and legs after taking Cipro. Did an awful lot of damage to my nerves and tendons.

sorry for that. how can they prescribe such a harmful thing? or even allow to give it to patients?

😮this med sounds very very familiar. Bloody heck! 😮😮Googled and I've only read two lines and the word "permanent" really stood out. Have you managed to recover?

Notodaynotever · 12/07/2022 13:24

That's a good shout re side effects of antibiotics.

Thinking of you OP.

HopeItzNothing · 12/07/2022 13:24

Herejustforthisone · 12/07/2022 08:23

Like this poster. Why are you excited about the OP’s updates? It’s weird.

@Herejustforthisone

Agreed this psoter is weird.
Just go to bed 😅

mummymayhem18 · 12/07/2022 13:29

So how did you get on? Could be painful bladder syndrome but obviously we can't diagnose you. Hope you're feeling more comfortable now.

PrivateHall · 12/07/2022 13:32

OP if you are no matter, you need to go back to your GP, now!

steff13 · 12/07/2022 13:49

Is there another ER you could go to? I'm in the US, but in my city there are two hospitals across the street from each other, and they post their ER wait times on their website, so you can see what to expect. One is currently 6 minutes and the other is 14 minutes. Is there something like that available?

It happened in 2009. I was in excruciating pain for a couple of months (feet, ankles and elbows mainly). It took about two years to feel about 90% physically healed although it did also cause issues with my heart rhythm as well. I reported it to Bayer, and submitted a yellow card report at the time. My GP was sent similar to fill in (to corroborate my symptoms) but he never filled it in due to being (a busy GP). At the time it wasn’t acknowledged that Cipro could cause such damage but a large group of floxed people had a court hearing and I think since then it hasn’t been as widely proscribed. It has loads of “black box warning” about tendon rupture and other hideous “side effects”. I was given it for a suspected uti despite testing negative. Uti symptoms continued for three weeks and no antibiotics worked (obviously because it wasn’t a uti) so they thought they’d hit it with Cipro. Horrendous!

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 13:52

@WouldYouIfYouCould I'm pretty sure my mum's taken that and I think I took that too for H. Pylori.

Oceanus · 12/07/2022 13:57

@WouldYouIfYouCould I'm glad you came out mostly unscathed in the end. When I read the word "permanent" I kind of panicked a bit for my mum. Still, 2 years is a long time to recover. I'm thinking a lot of people will be taking this on an off so they'll never recover! So they'll take more meds and off they go. On and off, on and off.

In what way aren't they taking it seriously?

Have you been triaged or even out in a cubicle or just let sat in the waiting room?

SillyFruit · 12/07/2022 14:04

Tellmewhyaintnothinbutaheartbreak · 12/07/2022 01:58

Will head up just now

any idea what’s wrong with me?

Ovarian cyst? I've had 2 previously.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 12/07/2022 14:05

Please stay until they’ve seen you op
it sounds serious
I hope your ok

mamakoukla · 12/07/2022 14:12

Could you call your GP’s office if they are willing to support you and provide leverage to get you seen?

Wheresthebeach · 12/07/2022 14:31

Ovarian cyst is a thought - I've had them. Very painful. Can you ask for an abdominal scan?

tillytown · 12/07/2022 15:40

If you are still there, start crying and shouting in pain. I tore a muscle in the shoulder (didn't know that at the time), couldn't move my head or neck, my arm had swollen up and I couldn't feel my hand, but was ignored for hours until I got very loud, and then they rushed me through. It's shocking how little medical professionals care about women and our pain

PinkButtercups · 12/07/2022 15:59

@yzed I'm glad @Herejustforthisone has stopped you in your tracks tbh.

I've read the whole thread and your posts come across so weird! You're making out you know something but not telling the OP to 'not scare her'. No you're being a head fuck and purposely torturing someone vulnerable and scared right now. How effed up.

PinkButtercups · 12/07/2022 16:00

Also asking for constant updates what the triage nurse said. It's nothing to do with you.

itsjustnotok · 12/07/2022 16:07

@tillytown yep and all the people who do that (who are not acute emergencies) make the people who are emergencies wait even longer. They don’t make anyone wait for fun. Our A&E has anywhere between 25 and 38 patients every hour turning up, the wait is to do with the fact that there are more and more turning up, with some needing acute care. I agree that pain relief should be offered and if not is perfectly reasonable to ask for but to sit and scream to get seen quicker is awful. Something I’ve seen happen a number of times.
