Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

I've not got results yet, so don't know whether when to exercise will be included in the advice. During the testing, on at least one occasion I was encouraged to go for a walk after a meal and was amazed how much it helped my blood sugar to recover after the meal.

I was also amazed to discover the different impact on my blood sugar if eating exactly the same meal at lunchtime compared to the evening.

@Wombat27A do you think it's worth it? That's a lot of ££

I think it depends on your circumstances.

I'm at a point where I have pretty much tried everything over 40 years from low fat, low carb, 1:1 online coaching, Slimmers World, Weight Watchers, the NHS dietitians twice, Crossfit/Paleo, intermittent fasting in various forms & I'm a qualified PT. 😁

Still fecking fat with shit blood results, high cholesterol/on statins & probably full-blown metabolic syndrome. Dodgy thyroid too.

Arthritis is giving me significant joint issues so the advice is lower weight & curb inflammation too.

So for me, it's worth it as all these problems cost me more. Sore feet costs me a fortune in shoes. 😎

I really wanted to see if my diet was as good as I thought it was too. It's definitely informed me about what to eat to suit me & I feel a lot less puffy.

Whether I can get it or indeed want to get to 75+ days most days, I'm not sure.

So it depends really. I think you have to be quite invested as there's a huge amount of information to take in (or in my case, skip read!) so time as well as a cost is something to consider. 👍

@Wombat27A it does sound really interesting. One thing I struggle with is balancing my own health/dietary needs with feeding a (fussy) family. I'd happily eat poached salmon and salad for dinner every night but that wouldn't go down well.

Wombat27A · 29/06/2022 07:01

Easier for me but after 25 years, I've realised me & him just cannot eat the same foods. DH is looking so lean, so I knew there was more to it...

Salmon & salad would score highly. Actually that's what I should have picked up yesterday. Did get some almond butter. 😁

Gosh it’s expensive isn’t it! Prohibitively so for my income I think, unfortunately.

The foods it recommends and tells you to avoid - do you need to have eaten them for it to know that? Or will it say that if your body doesn’t do great with X food then also avoid Y and Z?

Wombat27A · 29/06/2022 07:43

They score the foods in a database and you log it to get an overall score.

It's not prescriptive, more educational & the lessons are informative. Definitely a process, more coaching than anything else. I can't find the right words here...

Did anyone who signed up last week get their kit yet? Mine is being delivered at lunchtime :)

I am away with work for a couple of days so o was going to have my day 1 on Friday so I could have the trickier day 3 testing day on Sunday. But then I thought about the post and how long I have to get samples in the post - I had visions of me sprinting down our high street on Saturday morning poo sample in hand to catch the 12 o'clock pick up!

MassiveSalad22 · 29/06/2022 20:24

No mine hasn’t arrived yet 😢😢

Whats in it? Can you upload a pic? Dying to get mine!

MassiveSalad22 · 29/06/2022 20:27

I have bizarre physical symptoms that flare before my period (itchy skin, aching joints particularly feet, very dry eyes). Does anyone have any idea if a cause for this would be picked up in the tests if I do the tests when I’m not currently having the symptoms? I know the muffin tests are only looking at the microbiome (/digestion??) but I don’t know, just wondering if they’ll be able to sort of see if anything dietary would be the cause or if I should test while I have symptoms or whatever…. Don’t know if that makes sense 😄

RetrainRetrain · 30/06/2022 21:06

I'm tempted by this but I don't understand how they calculate inflammation?

Interested too. I’ve had blood tests before that have shown inflammation markers though (I’m pretty sure), so that makes sense.

ladyandthechocolate · 01/07/2022 11:14

My kit arrives today. Exciting! Looking forward to getting started.

MassiveSalad22 · 01/07/2022 13:07

Mine too, in the next hour apparently!! 😃😃

MassiveSalad22 · 01/07/2022 13:28

It’s here! And now I don’t want to do it 😄 only because it’s overwhelming and I hate needles/taking my own blood. Eurgh.

MassiveSalad22 · 01/07/2022 13:29

Also strange OTT packaging with big gaps which makes it feel like they’ve missed something out!

ladyandthechocolate · 01/07/2022 13:50

I’ve yet to see mine because I’m at work. Have you done anything with it yet?

Wombat27A · 01/07/2022 14:53

There's a list of all the things included on the side of each package. The only one I didn't understand was something like "thermocouple" in the poo sample but I figured that was in the tube. It all worked out in the end.

Right so today was day 1! Dd2 took great pleasure in attaching the monitor and it feels very secure. Like the enormous geek I am I have been doing measurements on and off which I probably shouldn't have done as I know it's not accurate for 24 hours (but I was green all day......).

I have done all my questionnaires and stuff. Tomorrow is the dreaded poo sample so wish me luck. Muffins Sunday (dd1 is helping with the bloods).

MassiveSalad22 · 01/07/2022 21:10

@lugeforlife exciting!! Tell me more about the blood monitor… I really want it to be secure and painless as you say! If I do it wrong, is there a chance to reapply it or is it a one-shot thing
I’m starting on sun, just did my profile thing. Looking forward to it!

lugeforlife · 01/07/2022 23:07

@MassiveSalad22 I think it's a one shot but honestly so simple. It's like using a stapler.

I had pasta and ice cream for dinner and 3 hours later my glucose monitor has spiked! I am dreading tomorrow when it's running properly....

MassiveSalad22 · 02/07/2022 03:39

Oh god, a stapler 🤢 ok thanks for the heads up!

lugeforlife · 02/07/2022 08:30

Omfg I had a poo disaster!

As I think was obvious this was the bit I was mega stressed over and dreading. I got myself all prepared, had a nightmare getting the test cartridge out of the packing.

Poo hammock fine. However colon was not playing ball - obviously a bit stressed too! Finally goods were produced although far from my best effort.

So up I get. Hammock done job fine. So I take my scoop in one hand, tube in the other. But scoop slipped, hammock looked like it shifted, I went to grab it and liquid spilled from tube!

Luckily I managed to right everything and got my pea sample. I've put it in the tube and it was covered by the liquid so I've followed the instructions and am off to the priority post box.

Sod's law - chat team are us based and all off for 4 July. I read the faq and it said problem if all liquid is spilled so I'm just going to have to cross my fingers.,..

Learn from me kids - don't stress about your poo. It only leads to ruin

Wombat27A · 02/07/2022 09:34

The monitor is ok to do. I'm usually allergic to plasters, so was surprised it was ok for the entire 2 weeks.

I was stressed about the blood thing, best not to be. 😁

Did I mention that one of my highest ever blood sugar spikes was on a Saturday morning getting ready to make an all very casual lunch for four friends. I didn't even. It is I was so stressed.
