Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

I do love spinach ;).

I also can't eat crap without larding on weight. I am expecting mine to be poor

I did finally tell dh how much it was. He rolled his eyes some more and muttered more money than sense under his breath but did sound interested in the geeky blood glucose monitoring (ohhhh I can feed you all kinds of things)

ladyandthechocolate · 24/06/2022 16:43

So can anyone who has started the program give me a quick idea of what happens first- when you get the kit sent?
i presume you do the poo and blood testing and send it off? Then what next? Do you test and variety of foods and log the results?

Wombat27A · 24/06/2022 17:49

I was discussing this earlier with DH as it's quite involved & a bit hard to describe. There's some video reviews on YouTube.

Basically you get the pack & then follow the instructions as it's definitely a process with Day 3 being quite busy with stuff to do. There's a fair bit of eating muffins, going for walks & cheese eating. 🧀😁😋.

The blood test measure fats so are done at a specific time after eating the muffins.

Don't start on a day or week you're busy.

The more I write, the more culty this sounds but it's OK, just needs a bit of time & thought.

Thanks @Wombat27A that’s helpful. I like the thought of setting aside a day for muffins, cheese and walks!

Wombat27A · 25/06/2022 08:14

Ha, ha, one of the results that surprised me is that I'm better eating a chunk of cheese than a banana. And rice crackers are a definite no no...

I'm now at the stage of trying to improve my scores, it's a bit mind bending. The inner grumpy wombat is not happy about change but I actually feel a whole lot better and for someone with adhd, it's all about how you feel, logic comes a very poor second. 😁

@Wombat27A how does it work with the ADHD? I was tempted, but am worried that it involves too much organisation and that I'll end up spending lots of money on something I won't be able to keep up with (cf driving lessons, personal trainer, those subscriptions I never get round to cancelling...)

Wombat27A · 25/06/2022 09:17

That sounds very familiar. Currently fighting the urge to buy a kayak. 😁

Well, I will probably only do a few months of the coaching bit. But I hope to take the principles away from that.

The tests themselves are a bit of a challenge but I was ok as I hyper-focused on them. I did get the able assistant (DH) to check what I doing, as the order is important. The app is good as it sets reminders.

However, I would not do this if I was having to process other important things at the same time. I try to do "just one thing" at a time.

The only bit that I really found awkward was there were a lot of instructions for the blood test & they slightly differed between info in the leaflet & on the test itself. I'd not read both bits properly.

I like the app lessons as they are short & interactive. The chat works if you need more clarification.

Overall, for me & my adhd, its not been too overwhelming. Tho obv I did start this thread when I was a bit worried about what to do, given my results...

On a more adhd note, I use a large white board for organising things generally & also sit down with DH & externalise the random admin stuff as much as possible.

Does it tell you for example avoid weetabix and banana like the plague, but you're OK to eat peanut butter on wholemeal toast? Or crossants will give you a huge sugar/fat spike but yogurt and honey doesn't?

Wombat27A · 25/06/2022 18:11

More or less. Plus how to combine meals to get a better score. So banana & peanut butter is better for me than banana alone.

Tho I'm not doing ok today... 😁

Hope today is working out better for you @Wombat27A

The part that still puzzles me is the advice So banana & peanut butter is better for me than banana alone.

Can there be anyone for whom that does not hold?

Wombat27A · 26/06/2022 14:18

I have no idea how it works for other people. That's the bit I'm interested in as I have no clue what to do with meals to suit the able assistant too. He's fast disappearing!

But I assume the theory is that a mix of carbs & fats is better than a carb alone?

A lot of it will be generic advice, I suppose as most health advice will suit most people. I'm trying to tweak the margins as standard advice doesn't work well for me.

I'm bouncing up and down in my seat, looking out for my results, so apologies, do please feel free to ignore my posts.

I really want to talk about the results while I'm waiting for the real results.

If these did include info about 'helpful' combinations I would be very interested.

Wombat27A · 26/06/2022 18:34

It's come back to me...

They have a worked example in the results with a table & it's also one of the lessons. It shows how better combinations work! 😁

What's this score of 75 all about? Thanks

crypticcurls · 27/06/2022 15:26

Ha ha - I love banana and PNB! But why are they better together than banana alone. And PNB alone?

lurchermummy · 27/06/2022 16:01

I'm very intrigued at the cost of this program, I did sign up to join the waiting list but there is no indication of price?

FinallyHere · 27/06/2022 16:10

Thank you @Wombat27A

My new sensors arrived today. I'm going to hold off applying one for a few days as I'm a bit busy at work (but still on MN we notice - The Ed)

From Thursday I should have more scope for testing other things so will apply another sensor then.

They have a very American way of marketing this, which is highly irritating. If I hadn't really wanted to get the tests, I'd have binned it off as I find this approach problematic.

It's a few hundred quid for the tests & then there's a choice of coaching periods, so one-month, 3-month & a year with different prices. It's soft-launching too, so not fully-featured & it's clearly still fairly American but it's very interesting & I'm pleased I signed up.

They use your results to score foods and then divide them into things you can eat freely (75+), right down to stuff that's probably best avoided (0).

So the aim is to get a high score across your eating for the day...

lugeforlife · 27/06/2022 19:47

I am getting quite excited! Have done my lessons, trying to train myself for the poo hammock.

Was telling my mum about it yesterday - she is very curious about the results as well.

I am also sort of limbering up - eating some more fruit and veg etc.

@Wombat27A my guru, I am a non meat eater so can you remember if they take that kind of thing into account? I'll be really pissed if my 75 score food is a steak

Wombat27A · 27/06/2022 19:55

Meat is not a big part. I've actually gone veggie during this, more or less. Gone off meat...

You can eat what you like, it's about trying to reduce inflammation, so the scores tell you where on the scsle that food is, so nuts score highly as well as veg.

I do have a score for spam, 2. 😁

I'm embracing beans. Hodmedod's lentils & chia seeds too. 👍

Aha thanks (am I replying to your message? Not sure how to do that...). I guess you then average it out over the day.

Wombat27A · 27/06/2022 19:58

I must admit & this might be tmi but one of the US YouTubers had an accident with their hammock, so I went belt & braces & used the hammock over a camping toilet, so no water underneath.

If the sample gets contaminated, you can't send it.

The app does it. The scores appear once you have your results. 👍

Does zoe say you should exercise before or after eating? Or does it vary from person to person?
