Zoe Nutrition Testing

Wombat27A · 15/06/2022 08:15

Not sure this is the right place for this...

Anyone else doing the Zoe Nutrition Testing?

My results were poor, so now I'm tackling my diet. I thought it was pretty good but it's clear it needs a major overhaul. So much information but finding it good.🙂

I am on the early access waiting list but I don’t know how long the wait it. I’m fascinated by the program though so reading everyone’s experiences with interest. Is it a question of simply seeing how much different foods spike your glucose levels from your baseline?

mrsfoof · 23/06/2022 07:55

If anyone has a referral code that they could pm me I'd be grateful Smile

They estimate how quickly you clear fats from your blood and sample your gut bacteria too.

Then try to find foods that fit with your particular biology by scoring them.

Also sequencing foods & the effects of exercise.

So one thing I'm doing now is going for a short amble after my dinner. 😁

That sounds brilliant. Would be great to know what state my microbiome is in! I’ll pay just for that! But scared of the glucose testing but knowledge is power hey!

ladyandthechocolate · 23/06/2022 10:49

Thanks for the referral code! I am now signed up. If anyone wants another, mine is joinzoe.mention-me.com/m/ol/fy2pg-4c516a9f13
really looking forward to getting started

crypticcurls · 23/06/2022 12:08

I'd love to do this but the cost is prohibitive. And even more prohibitive is my husband who thinks it'll be a complete waste of money! And he's probably right - I never diet, but do try to eat healthily, eat more veg and less fat/sugar. And fail miserable! I have no willpower at all, particularly in the evenings. I assume the bottom line with Zoe is eat more veg and less/fat sugar. And since I know I can't do that it will be a very expensive fail - and hubby will not be any happier than me! Any thoughts? Thank you :)

MassiveSalad22 · 23/06/2022 12:08

Thanks @ladyandthechocolate I’m signed up!

i have a code now too Here

ladyandthechocolate · 23/06/2022 12:21

@MassiveSalad22 great news!
i wonder how it will take to get everything through the post. I hope I’m ok with my morning smoothie, it’s so part of my routine.

lugeforlife · 23/06/2022 12:40

@crypticcurls I get you. I did think twice about the cost and I didn't tell my husband. I am really similar to you and it did give me pause.

I have told him now and as expected I got a roll of the eyes (not told him much it cost - it's coming from my work bonus and he spends as much on his hobbies!).

My issue is that I have a lot of diabetes in my family. I have a potential auto immune condition. I am obese and have always struggled with my weight and I am peri menopausal. Oh and am prone to anxiety with a stressful job. That is a lovely bunch of fuck off right there.

If there is any data in there which helps with any of that as I head towards my 50s and beyond then it's worth it (appreciate I can afford it though). I am veggie and whilst conventional wisdom seems to be that low carb should work well, veggie low carb is tricky, repetitive and I find has quite a bit of processed stuff in it. So I can't sustain it then I feel shit and eat cake.

So I'm thinking this is for health not weight loss, shifts of focus not cutting things out. If it helps with some mindfulness and self care along the way then fab. It's an investment in me and I deserve it.

Which is a bit wanky but I get to poo in a hammock (dh was very amused by this bit)

crypticcurls · 23/06/2022 12:44

Sadly we have joint bank account so I can't do the secret thing! Also I'd be cross myself if it didn't work. I don't have any health issues - just sheer greed! Love the idea of pooing in a hammock - amuses me that some people are put off by this!

MassiveSalad22 · 23/06/2022 13:25

Haha I am so excited to poo in a hammock 😄

I’ve signed up and told DH he should do it too. I just really want us both to live for ages 😭 he won’t do it though because of the poo thing and he wants to keep eating pizzas forever.

I'm seeing it as an investment in me too. This is my ‘year of health’ - just had last baby, had a scan and a biopsy to make sure I don’t have some autoimmune issues 🤞🏻🤞🏻 And this ties in nicely, making sure I’m healthy and can get on with life 🙌🏻

MassiveSalad22 · 23/06/2022 13:26

Also last night I was considering how it’s already a restricted sample size really because of the price. But maybe they’ll end up rolling it out in surgeries or something for specific people. Who knows.

ArrangeYourFace1 · 23/06/2022 13:32

@crypticcurls

I assume the bottom line with Zoe is eat more veg and less/fat sugar.

I don’t believe that this will be their bottom
line necessarily. They have mentioned lots of times in the ‘lessons’ provided on the app that all calories are different, and on one of their podcasts (the one on fat I think) they say that it is a myth that in order to lose weight you have to eat less fat.

What I’ve gathered so far, and someone please correct me if I get any of this wrong! Is:

  • Managing blood sugar response (so more controlled peaks and troughs) means better energy/weight loss/less huger/less dietary inflammation
  • the order in which you eat the food that comprises your meals matters - so if you have salad, cheese and bread for instance, your blood sugar response will be worse (greater peak and trough) if you eat bread then cheese then salad, than if you eat salad, cheese, bread.
  • eating fat and protein with or before carbs actually improves your blood sugar control
  • exercise after eating improves your glucose response
  • if you go to sleep late then your glucose response in the morning will be worse than if you go to bed early (even with the same number of hours sleep - I think that’s right?
  • Stress worsens your glucose response (because of cortisol possibly?)
  • more veg variety = more diverse micro biome = better processing of food
I don’t really understand much about the fat processing bit yet.

This is the commercial product. Zoe is linked to the Predict survey, so is based on the work at UCL and other large Unis over a few decades.

Agh, did a big post and it disappeared!

Basically to sum up, I've just done a course with my local NHS dieticians and it was really good. I'd highly recommend people to see if they can self-refer as, at least where I live, the course was excellent. However, I did all the "right" things and it wasn't that effective, tho very supportive and got me back on track.

Just reread the report and they had a section on the testing helping to find your foods in the middle of the spectrum, ones that suit your own biology and improving those choices.

Eg., apparently I can eat cheese more regularly but not have so much rice, which was a surprise. I ate a lot of rice as I thought it was good for me!

Ah so that’s what Glucose Goddess says. I wonder if there’ll be more about glucose or just that. I’m in it for the microbiome stuff personally. There’s a saying ‘the bowel is the second brain’ or something? So interesting!

I really recommend the Zoe podcast. I’ve learnt a lot from it! Answers a lot of the questions asked above

That’s amazing, maybe my results will help me make changes to come off my SSRIs then!!

lugeforlife · 23/06/2022 21:18

@Wombat27A I hope you don't mind me asking but I'm curious about the blood fat element. I think you said yours wasn't great but what's the consequence/approach to improve?

Wombat27A · 23/06/2022 21:32

I think it changes the food scores. So I've never been able to eat lots of rubbish as I pile on the pounds & it looks like this is why.

Their examples (in the report) were people who had either poor blood sugar or poor fat control, not both.

Which is sort of why I started the thread as I'd love to see how it's different for other people.

Wombat27A · 23/06/2022 21:33

But basically it means I have to eat spinach. 😁

OP posts:
FinallyHere · 23/06/2022 21:38

Spinach is one of my most favourite things, especially wilted in butter with nutmeg grated over it. 😀

I'm also excited to be given personalised recommendations on what food suits me. I think I know myself but am lookiNg forward to knowing for myself and hearing how others vary. I would love to convince DH to join in, can't imagine he would ever go for the hammock.

Wombat27A · 23/06/2022 21:40

I'll give that a go. 😁👍
